Might the WT not escape much of the consequences? They've been preparing for years to fight future lawsuits. I remember about 10 years ago when they told us elders to write in our elder's manual several points about not including anything in our judicial files and correspondence that might cause legal touble for the society. Plus the fact that the society is so much smaller. And of course the Catholic Church has groups and organizations composed of Catholics who are actively engaged in pressuring the Church. JWs don't even know their own religion is involved or if they do, they're all too ready to dismiss it all as an "apostate plot". I sincerely hope the WT is pressured to put the welfare of children above their own reputation, but I really question whether they'll face the same negative publicity as other religions do.

Anecdotal evidence does not prove divine intervention. Really, wouldn't it be incredible if no witness ever ran into someone contemplating suicide? How many people in the park killed themselves minutes after a witness walked by but failed to witness to him or her? We'll obviously never know. How many WITNESSESS have committed suicide as a result (even if only a partial result) of the pressures JWs find themselves under? I know of one. I know of another who attempted it.

I got a letter from the Society

In case you don't recall my situation(why should you?), after about 5 years of steadily growing doubts, I finally quit going out in service. Of course, that prompted a visit by the elders. I told them frankly that I didn't believe a word of what the WT taught. It took them 1 week to get back with me. "Either you're with us or you're against us." They told me I'd be disfellowshipped. (that's not really a bad thing, mind you. I wastired of the hiding/deception. Now I feel right with the world) Strangely, two weeks after that, I was visited by two more elders with a rather different message. They invited me back to the meetings, said they'd like to talk about things more. They assured me they weren't there to force me to believe something I didn't believe. Lot's of talk of free will, yada yada yada. They encouraged me to write a letter tothe society.
In the letter I told I don't believe in a literal Genesis account. I referred to most of the issues that are discussed in Ray's book and on this forum, blood, UN, pedophilia, etc. I didn't say where I had read about them. But they got the point. They said that if I continued to express disagreement with the society's "Bible-based position", that the elders would not consider me to be one JWs any longer and that they could take action to protect the congregation. they encouraged me not to talk to those who are trying to tear down all that God is accomplishing through his organization(that would be you people!).
The thing is, I moved and the elders don't know where I live. So, despite being so open with the brothers, I'm thinking that they may just let it drop. They can write letters and invite me to a judicial committe, but that's all. Don't think I'll go. They can't even accuse me of anything in writing. Oh well. Life's interesting!

by Adam ini must be a glutton for punnishment or something, but here i go again, broaching the subject of speaking english in america.. apparently a law was recently passed in austria that people must satisfactorily pass a basic german language skills test in a few months or they will be fined.
if they do not master basic german in 4 years, they can be kicked out of the country.
many people interviewed in the article mentioned that they are too poor to afford the classes.

Can you imagine how you would feel if you went in to a KH and there was a copy Ray Franz's book for everyone? I know the Catholic Church is feeling great pressure, but I still feel a certain amount of respect for them. They are apologizing, they studiously avoid blaming the victims (even though some have turned out to have been making false accusations). They are paying compensation to the victims. I find it amazing that the "filthy whore" has more moral fiber than "God's faithful and discreet slave".

Yes, Israel was God's chosen nation as long as they REPENTED. HELLO!!! Trying to fight lawsuits, spinning the legitimate complaints of people who have been sexually molested is not repentance. So show some guts WT, repent, I'll respect you a lot more.
