  i'm curious, why and how did you choose your username?.

  does it hold any special significance for you, is there a share-able back story?.

  for me sparrowdown is a playful reference to matt 10:29 and the title of the movie black hawk down.. matt 10:29 was my go-to scrip to "prove" that god cares about us as individuals.

  Goal for new service year

  the secretary of the congregation said in a talk, what the congregation should have as goal for the new service year: attend field service meetings!.

  he explained in a sad tone, that he visited all of our 3 or 4 service groups.

  and what happened at the field service meetings.

  should you spank a child to make them understand or do you reason with them.

  they both agree with spanking.

  Any child who has been spanked remembers the beating, not the lesson. They learn fear, not respect. Build solid loving relationships with your kids and spanking is not an option.

  i have always wondered why alot of jw's that i know are really into alot of sci-fi stuff like star wars, i robot, x-men stuff etc.

  i mean they take it another level with this fantasy stuff.

  i've applied to be reinstatement in a new city after attending meetings for a bit.

  i wrote my letter and they heard my case.

  they were very helpful.

  How can Holy Spirit move one body of elders to recommend your reinstatement and another to reject it? There is only one answer and it does not bode well for WT "theology."

  Oubliette, as usual, bypasses the opinions and gets to the Reality/Facts. THIS is what you should be concerned about.

  It's the religious equivalent of Berlin Wall politics ... "they will stay our subjects if we make it too hard to leave".

  Look what happened to that wall. Some things are simply unsustainable.

  Excellent point, Simon. But it's sobering to realize that many East Germans never wished to go the West...and freedom.

  this is a true experience that i thought i would share, one that occurred just a few years ago in my area.

  it is a real experience, nothing made up here.. a younger couple moved into our kh, into the joining congregation (so not ours, but the other one that shared our kh).

  they seemed nice enough, they had one boy that was about 8, and a baby on the way.

  I agree with Fernando. After all,catholics have less priests per congregation than the jws, who have multiple men in positions of absolute power "over the flock" protecting themselves and all other men in the congregation. They have NO morals and heartlessly allow so many children and teens to be abused.

  If they believed in Hell, they'd all be headed there at the top of the list.

  My JW mom is now willing to "listen" to our side...Need advice pls

  my husband and i (both born in jws with extended family all "in" except for one of my sisters who left when we did) left the church 5 years ago.

  we did not fade, we just didn't believe it anymore, told our families so and left.

  obviously, big drama in our family after this, messy feelings, etc.
