Hmmm...I thought the only thing of interest was the shared use of the cross and crown symbol. Just seems odd that it was so prominently displayed on the literature. I didn't see anyone accusing the masons of worshipping serpents, did I miss something in this thread?

November 2015 Awake
by username inok. when i first looked at the cover of this issue of awake i was instantly struck on how creepy it looked.
my first impressions were the picture looked almost masonic in nature.
well, further investigation has led me to another picture that shows a grand masonic hall.

Just recovering from a 'Mormon Mind Melt' ...
by LoveUniHateExams ini was in town centre about an hour ago to buy a shirt and tie for an upcoming job interview when i was stopped by a youngish, clean cut american young man (20-ish) in a cheap suit.
my heart sank as i thought it was local jws.
to my slight relief, it was mormons!

SSC: 2) The angel Moroni showed Joseph Smith the sacred golden plates and was told to bury them near his home. These big, solid gold plates have never been found, despite only have been burried around 1823 and that area of New York being heavily excavated and built on.
He didn't happen to live near Warwick, did he? Maybe the plates are at the bottom of that lake.(Sorry, just couldn't help myself.)

A relative of mine's grandfather became a jdub city overseer (way back when) yet he was a 33rd degree mason. The "cross and crown" most certainly was an early Bible Students symbol and was indeed featured on the WT way back when. Makes one wonder if that connection continues today. -

A simple physical exercise leads to great discovery!
by iconoclastic inwhen i was working in a shipping company, captain invited me to his house for his wedding anniversary.
there i was attracted to his father (aged around 80) who seemed to be very healthy.
with me he became very comfortable, and talkative.

The first breathing exercise is well known and very effective. I believe the second exercise relates to energy chakras as recognized by some eastern religions. No need to make fun of things you aren't familiar with, really. We are only comfortable with our own customs, but need to recognize that every society has customs and teachings different from each other. That doesn't make them wrong, and we have lots to learn by being open-minded.

Stealth, funny you mentioned the push-button lake drain as I'm trying to wrap my head around the caption beneath that famous (now-missing) photo of the drain installation diver:
A hired diver in Blue Lake replaces an old valve with a new one. With the push of a button, the level of the lake can now be lowered to prevent flooding in the event of a hurricane.
The last major flooding in Warwick was ten years ago when heavy rainfall caused portions of Kings Highway to be underwater and some cars had to be abandoned (no lives were lost). Most of the water damage was to downtown businesses because their basements flooded. No mention was made of property damage outside of town, as the flooding was primarily on roadways as ditches overflowed.
I'm curious as to just WHY they feel the need to drain "their" lake and WHERE the water drained out of oh-holy-crap lake would be drained TO? And hurricane damage? Seriously, people, these guys use Catastrophic terminology to justify everything they do.

I don't know how you endured that long, but kudos to you for hanging in there! And I've heard some wacko things from ex-mormons, but that's the first time I've heard about g*d being a physical creature. Thanks for sharing this!
I am also struck by how similar these two "religions" are. With that in mind, and with all the similarities that have been mentioned on this board between jws and mormons, will any of us be surprised one day to find that there's a large, fabulously wealthy international corporation called Religion, Inc. that markets most of the worldwide religions?
One does have to wonder about these huge money-making businesses (disguised as religions) that are focused on Wealth Management rather than Helping People.
For those who believe: What would Jesus say?

Fake Reporting, Growth and Crap Blessings
by cookiemaster ini think the numbers shown in the yearbook and with other occasions that are used by the gibberish buddies to boast about the blessings from jehovah are super fake and inflated, much of it even without their knowledge.
i think they like to take advantage of all sorts of technicalities and loopholes to report numbers as great as possible, but it's not like jws are super reliable sources of reporting.for example i have not been in field circus for something like two years.
i never talked about "the truth" with any non-jw, yet i've never been considered inactive.

I always wondered about this even when I was "in". Not only do they (obviously) not verify the numbers submitted each month, but they can publish whatever numbers they feel will do them the most good. Because even when numbers go down in a certain area, that was used as a call to go "serve" in that area.
Remember when they used to claim that they only counted "active" dubs in their reports? When you think of the THOUSANDS of faders and inactive ones who never report time, yet are still counted as "members", you must wonder if they jack up the literature placement and bibble study numbers in an attempt to make themselves look good. And when is the last time they reported how many were disfellowshipped last year? They've tossed around the *40,000* figure for decades but I'm not sure they even allude to it anymore.
Not much different from the worldwide media today. They can "report" anything they want and sheeple will believe every single detail, because they have given them authority over their thinking ability.

Jehovah's Chariot slams into reverse!
by apocalypse inthe question i will be asking dubs at the hall this week is, "since jesus is directing the slave.... why has he done a 180..?".
last sunday we studied how jesus is directing the slave to build an average of 5 kingdom halls a day since 2000. why has he changed his mind and gone in the completely opposite direction?.
if this 'change' is not securely lodged in their craw by the time i am through, then i will eat my hat..

I'm hoping that the eldubs will see this reversal to be the large "take the money and run" scenario it truly is, and perhaps spur a greater defection from their ranks. I think that would do more to wake up the rank & file as it would hit them closer to home.
I know it will never happen, but just imagine the fallout if an entire eldub body resigns -- right after sharing their reasons with the entire congregation. The stuff dreams are made of.

World Wide Construction comes to a Shuddering Halt - Jehovah's Blessing has Evidently been Suspended!
by Slidin Fast inthe chelmsford project in the uk has already come to a halt and every one has been sent home.
the bethel family in london is to be cut by several hundred.
my impression is that most ambitious youngster in the org dream of being involved with the building program.

Have the gb built themselves a retirement place in Grand Cayman yet? I can almost picture them fleeing the US to snuggle up next to all the funds they've socked away in that lovely off-shore banking paradise, and leaving the Borg in a shambles.
Whoops, sorry, just daydreaming again. 😎
