What is truth?

( john 18:37-38 ).. how would you answer the question according to what we know from the bibles definition, and how the faithful and discreet slave have endeavored to give us spiritual food at the proper time?.

I'll add my two cents. True statements don't change, like the world being round. The Society uses that scripture to show that before people recognized this scientific fact, the Bible already stated it - as a Truth.

However, the Society's truths are fluid, remarkedly like interpretations - they're just taught as dogmatic truths to their true belivers. We are taught not to question their truths, nor to question the new truths after the present truths have turned into old truths that we don't even discuss after awhile.

I was amazed when I REALLY started reading our magazines, even in years past, the term "present truth".

If we are being taught interpretations, we should be allowed to accept or reject - not put our lives on the line for someone's opinion of the Bible. We should be allowed to freely stay or leave if we don't agree with their interpretations. After all, we've always been taught that only the Bible is inspired.

We are taught that these men interpret the Bible, but if we disagree, we will be looking at destruction at God's hands. At the least, having 666 stamped across our foreheads by our friends and family. Where is the freedom?

Probably like a Reformed Baptist. However, I don't think the Society would take lightly to someone trying to reform them, after all, they are the direct channel from God.

BTW, I am also 50, mother of three children, no grandkids (4 dogs that I love), been married to same, very patient, man for 20 years, married to a real jerk before that. Been a JW for 30 years, now I'm just trying to talk to others who are trying to stay a witness - but verifying their beliefs with the Bible (like me). Nice to meet ya!!

i have just gained a new little girl.

my wife bore an 8lb baby girl with many complecations.

the majority were taken care of with surgery but she is also deaf.

I forgot to mention - my first husband was a louse. However, after my first baby, he bought me a small flowering plant. I still remember that pretty plant - long after I got rid of him.

The only thing that ruined the "moment" was his thoughtless remark when I thanked him: "Oh, some woman down in the gift store said I should bring you something." Thank you, "some woman."

All children are gifts, at least until they are teenagers, then when they grow up, they tend to be gifts again.

To wait or not to wait?

okay, this need not necessarily be controversial but i would like some honest opinions on the matter.

from time to time (in last sundays wt lesson for example) i read in the magazines or hear brothers say this in their talks.

(with some variation) arent we grateful that jehovah has waited this long before loosing armageddon on mankind?

Mediator for Great Crowd?

I have been reading, a lot. I know the arguments about Jesus being in a "new covenant position" with the anointed and the great crowd is not in a convenant position, but enjoy the benefits of that covenant.

I don't quite get it though, in the scripture where Jesus died for all men - I've looked in 5 different translations, and they all say that Jesus died for all men - not for all (types) of men.

My MAIN question is, why are all the prayers said from the platform and all our private prayers ended saying: "we pray through your son, Jesus Christ." (or similar) If we're not in a mediator position with Jesus, why are we taught to pray through him? I understand respect, etc., but we have always been taught to pray exclusively through Jesus - that our prayers would not be heard by Jehovah if we didn't pray through Jesus. That sure sounds like we're praying through Jesus as our mediator.

I understand, kind of, the argument that the Anointed Faithful and Discreet Slave, better known as primarily the Governing Body of the Watchtower Society, is the "channel" between Jehovah and man. Which would mean that it goes like this:

Jehovah
Jesus
Anointed in heaven, Jehovah's Sons
Anointed Remnant on earth, Jehovah's Sons, dba Watchtower Society
great crowd of "Jehovah's friends"

Again, why do we pray through Jesus, if he is not our mediator? If the organization, our mother, is Jehovah's "channel" to the great crowd - not Jesus - then who are we to pray through? Who is OUR mediator?

If it is the anointed, and they ARE getting older and this system is lasting WAY longer than we anticipated -- who is our mediator when they die - because they told us that Jesus is not our mediator - only theirs.

Does it seem slightly askew that Jehovah would have billions of people on the earth, say, in 10 years (if this system) lasts, with no way to speak with him? I have read about the New Light on the Nethinim, or Temple Helpers for Governing Body. They have the same authority, almost (not voting) that the Governing Body does. Fine, but the Society does not teach that they have to be of the anointed. If they're not, again - who will be our biblical mediator?

If this system lasts longer than the old men on the Governing Body, and Jesus WAS their mediator (there might still be others living then, but if they're sisters, it wouldn't matter 'cause they're NEVER gonna sit in THAT room), how will we pray, the way the Society has taught us, to Jehovah? I really find it hard to believe that Jehovah would do that to us - all of mankind.

I Need advice on Women.

okay, here is a few questions concerning women that i would like a little help with.. supposing your trying to get some lady's attention because your interested in her, what is a good approach without sounding to cheesy?

another question is how do you know and what are the indications that the girl is taking interest in you, and what are the indications she wants you to take a hike?

Hi, I'm new here, but very familiar with your previous girlfriend's silence. You say she should have told you, which would have to indicate she knew and understood her condition. Not many JW's get actual clinical help with depression or bi-polar disorder. She just could not have understood how her moods related to her. She also might not have been on appropriate, if any, medication. Without it, life really sucks for manic depressives. She also could have been misdiagnosed - it happens frequently (I know, I've been through that one.)

You were right, though, if you would have married her and her condition was not under control - your marriage probably wouldn't have been either.

I am 50 and a woman. If you go to any gathering where we are allowed to dance, you will find that the man who can dance, especially fast dancing, will always shine with any and all women present. I always told my sons that, but most men are so afraid to move their hips!!!

Listening to a woman, dancing, (if the Society will allow you), and funny always work. You don't have to be gay to be funny and move your hips! I swear that's why a lot of men like to be around gay men - they're funny!

Good question. Also, there is tremendous growth in the former Russia, etc. area - with the Witnesses and many other religions. A lot of literature and studies are being placed.

From my understanding, only in a few nations, US, Europe, and another major one, is literature placed on a donation basis, (Jimmy Swaggart Court Case, where the attorneys of Jehovah's Witnesses pleaded for his cause of not paying sales tax on the religious items he sold, he lost - and shortly thereafter our literature went for donation money). Most, if not all third world countries still pay for the WT literature. So maybe there's still a lot of literature to sell?

Please don't think I'm unduly sarcastic - I just think it's odd that in the poor third world countries, where the material needs are greater - interested persons still pay for our bible literature.

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR BEAUTIFUL NEW DAUGHTER!!!!
No one is perfect, neither do we bear perfect children. But they are all wonderful, and we, as parents, can, and do adjust. And we are the ones who help our children adjust. Technology is getting better. My children had some problems too, and they were medically fixable. So go give your wife a big hug and kiss and tell her she's wonderful, because she is.

I raise dogs, and in the breading books they counsel, "even if the litter didn't turn out as you expected, always show the mother that she did a great job and that you're proud of her.

Well, not to compare your wife to one of my dogs, but surely, if we show our dogs how good they are...... Your wife must be terrific - show her. A good cup of coffee and doing the dishes does wonders for a new mother.

Congratulate her and yourself on a job well done, and tremendously love your child.

for anyone who's ever written something of a private nature or asked clarification on certain beliefs have you ever had the unfortunate experience of the elders calling you in the back room or a sheperding call ?.

the reason i bring this out is that newer brothers or sisters don't know that everytime you write the society the society sends a copy of your letter to your local cong.

I just posted about my disfellowshipped daugher and my letter to Society. I forgot to mention my distress in all these years about not being able to pray for my disfellowshipped child. After all, being Christian, it would seem that a sinner needs God's help, particularily a rape victim.

But, no, to my understanding, the Society says we should not pray for unrepentant sinners. So I always asked Jehovah "if he wants to spread his spirit, love, and help around - to please look at my daughter, if he wants too."

Sometimes, we are a pitiful people. When did God's love get so confused?
