SoBig Computer Virus

Hello everyone.

There is a new strain of one of the most virulent e-mail viruses ever. It is spreading very quickly worldwide Wednesday morning. In fact, it appears that it is the most rapidly spreading virus ever seen ... by far.

The new virus is called “Sobig.F". It attacks Windows users via e-mail.

Our firewall is already blocking about 400 infected messages per hour. There is however, an additional component of the virus that is causing a lot of confusion for our email users. SoBig.F also sends “informational” messages that tell the email recipients they’ve been infected by a virus. It is important to understand that no one has been infected, and that this is just another email message, just like any other spam message.

Btw, my comp guy also said that The Blaster wasn't going to be the Mean Worm. The spinoffs from it would be much nastier.

Perhaps these are the beginning of that crop?

Have not received word about this new worm..........but I've been using Norton's Live updates twice a day for almost a week now since I got The Blaster. We're "clean" now - and have the patch.

My comp guy said ONE of the primary reasons for these worms/viruses is so that the sender can get your private info. Paypal, paysystems, any password stored in your system. It gets them - then sends them back to the sender. At least - that's what blaster did.

Got a big virus couple of months ago - had to cancel all credit cards & paypal pronto.

Agree - some computer geeks just are demented or have too much time on their hands. Others? They're thieves.

Have received no odd emails in all the email accounts I'm responsible for, however. Famous Last Words, eh?

Pat Garza Tribute from Silentlambs

however, there was a radical change in her perspective on life during her last months.

her death in june after battling with cancer was a source of grief to those who knew her.

I followed your other thread click to this one. Thank you for printing Bill's rememberance of Pat. I hadn't seen it.

If one hasn't lived in fear like she has - one just cannot understand it. It can have a strangle-hold on your health and life just as true and strong as cancer.

She was victorious over many crimes upon her - a shame that cancer finally won. But she was victorious nonetheless.

Congratulations to her for her accomplishments.

Nice to meet you - I had almost the identical situation with our son's marriage......right down to the slander originating with the elders. We did like you, calls, meetings, writing to Society, and like you.....zip.

However, we stayed in for a while (me - 30 yrs, my husband - born a jw 52 yrs). We had to have yet ANOTHER shitty experience (including the WT lawyers) before we saw The Light.

Been the best spiritual move we ever made. Btw, my husband used to have horrible migrane headaches (vomiting hrs on end, etc) at least twice a month on the weekends. Never during the week. And he ALWAYS had a vicious headache after the Sunday meetings.

Amazingly enough..........the migranes & other headaches stopped (except for the ones originating from his wife's voice) as soon as he quietly walked away from the WTBTS.

Please tell your husband we said "hey" (hi in southern 'mercun) to him too. My husband doesn't post - but has had the grand opportunity to meet others from here. "A new family."

What did you think of "Simplification" ???

i know now what was behind many of the simplification procedures that were adopted at the assemblies over the years.

the books and food were given away to avoid tax problems.

but what did you think about it when you were a jw?.

Most cults DO have mind-stopping phrases for their members. It doesn't mean they're dumb people - but as met brought out (after his dumbing down comment) - that they've been taught not to think any further. Btw, the WT is dumbing down the literature. The WT is also writing more in a convoluted style so even if you can read it.....it doesn't make sense.....but most people can't even try to really read it. "That WT study was soooooooooo deeeeeeeeeep!"

JW's have the capabilities to think upon anything (we're proof) - but they have to open their minds to do it. JW's also do quite well in many businesses - proving their not ignorant and/or dumb in all areas. They just stop thinking (or at least expressing their thoughts) on subjects they're not supposed to think about.

And JW's are proud of this fact, btw, because it's proves they're not "stiff-necked, independent thinkers, rebellious like ________________, "

As for the little independent things we lost over the years? Countless.

Letting our kids have crayons & paper at the assemblies.
Letting our little kids have their own pillows to take a nap after 6/8 friggin' hours of boring sessions.
No strollers in the hallway.
No walking in hallways during sessions.
STUPID attendents with their STUPID signs saying "No talking" "Return to your seats" etc.
Cherry pies waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when sisters donated their cooked goods.

The WT wants a "large army" - they've got it. Sterile, grey, saluting, no independent thinking. Uniformed in benign smiles, canned phrases, - all for the sake of a United Brotherhood.

Ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sooooooooooooooooooo glad to be outta there!

MY attorney thinks I talk entirely too much about too many things. In fact, he thinks all people should just be quiet, period. That way, when they (sooner or later) get involved in a law suit, they can honestly say "I never said that."

Somebody please tell me, funeral for a disfellowshipped child

i looked at our little local paper today and saw a young man had died.

he was the 20 year old son of jw's that used to be very dear friends.

i noticed that the funeral is to be held at the local funeral home and not at the kingdom hall.

Hello Deb,

Thank you for letting yourself be known as a compassionate human being. You comforted old friends. It really doesn't have much to do with Christians/atheists/whatever.........just compassion for others.

Of course, jw's turn it around and say they're showing "agape" (principled) love....but it seems that "agape" love is lacking compassion for fellow man.

Someone above suggested getting a couple of people to go to the funeral with you. Not a bad idea.............you could explain to them what his "spiritual family" the jw's, are doing to him, how he wept in your arms. Compassion might move them to offer moral support.

I've never heard of any jw giving a talk at a df'd person's funeral. I've never even heard of them going to the funeral - or the funeral home.

The WTBTS has taken a continuing hardening stance for families/friends with living df/da'd persons - totally cutting them off. Why should it be any different for funerals? No compassion - just cold, WT-warped, principles.
