If nothing else, this thread (and almost every thread which deals with pedophiles/child molesters/child rapists) ends up in arguments and/or insults.

This should clue us in a little as to the dilemma that the WTBTS has around the world. "Untrained volunteers" expressing all of the above sentiments....and many more. How to corral thousands of such untrained (and predominantly uneducated) men - and not get sued.

A massive problem. But other churches/organizations are setting better (if not good) parameters - the WTBTS should be able to also - unitedly around the world......as JW's are a "united brotherhood."

My son who's like me who forgot? He called me today singing "Happy Belated Birthday to mom........" explaining his card is "somewhere in the mail." uh-huh. It's amazing children grow up so well in spite of their parents.

Thanks again for all the "good vibes" It's Monday, and I can use all I can get.

And yes, Zazu, this is MY thread. Pat's MY sister, and I'm taking it. So there. (damned competive sisters). Please give ol' Carl a hug for me. He needs it. Crotchity old man. Getting more like Carmel all the time.

I'm sorry that this type of thread is so difficult for you - but sometimes it can be strengthening to be able to discuss the different sides to a situation. Please don't feel that the following is argumentative towards you..........just another side of the coin in this discussion.

Acceptable statement..........but LOOKING at a child and finding them sexually attractive is far different than molesting and/or raping a child.......just as with an adult looking at another adult sexually.....it doesn't equate to a crime.

There IS a difference in thought process - but then a person who really enjoys sex with shoes has a different thought process too......and that's not necessarily a crime either...but a fetish.

There are different types of pedophiles - even by law, they are coded in different catagories. Like other criminals, there are various degrees of crimes & pedophiles and/or child molesters/child rapists/child killers.

IF a pedophile breaks no law, then they aren't criminals. Or the laws might need to be changed to address different situations.

Btw, if the above is a direct quote from your therapist, fair enough. But my therapist did not use the terms " how far out of the norm of human behavior pedophilia really is." Why? Because it might be so in OUR society .......but in different societies, there are different norms. I believe she quoted me on some Hawaiian tribes who tradionally have sex with children. No child is hurt (within their societal norms) and it's been happening for hundreds of years. It's accepted in their norms & has been long term studied by psychologists. No apparent harm to their children. And, no, I don't agree with the practice.

We, as a Western society, don't have the right to dictate world norms. Just our own. Even then, it gets dicey sometimes. Like who can marry who, eh?

I have no problem with pedophiles BTW it is not any more a "disease" as homosexuality. Pedophillia is just a fetish. Since most pedophiles are hetrosexual it is not like are sexually flustrated because they can't have sex.

That?s a totally unprovable statement. Being heterosexual has NOTHING to do with being (or not being) ?flustrated because they can?t have sex.?

I think there is too many TV movie stereotypes about them. Many pedophiles are in adult realships while they abuse children.

*Some* pedophiles never physically molest children. They collect & view (among other things) pornography, etc. However, when a pedophile crosses over to physically abuse a child, it?s a crime. In some states, it?s also a crime to collect illegal child pornography, particularily if sent through mail. There are also other ways a pedophile can become a criminal without physically abusing a child. Hanging out in restrooms for a quick peek?

Just a following general comment about pedophiles and/or child molesters and/or child rapists:

Btw, there are MANY different kinds of pedophiles and there are MANY different kinds of child molesters. To lump them all together as worthy of castration and/or death doesn't make sense....and is dangerous. The law differentiates....so should we.

And ANOTHER Btw......................not ALL child molesters are child rapists. Some molesters never have sex with children. Some never even touch children. They're still molesters.....but not rapists. Many different kinds & levels of crimes.

B. According to the Law of Social Service paragraph 35 and 36, all Danish citizens have a duty to inform the Social authorities in the municipality if they know about or suspect abuse of children.

Paragraph 35: Anyone in the execution of their official duty or occupation shall inform the municipal authorities. If they in carrying out their daily duties come into knowledge with circumstances involving children under eighteen years of age, which indicate that the child has special needs of support.

Paragraph 36: Individuals that acquire knowledge of a child under 18 which are subject to neglect or maltreatment from its parents has a duty to report it to the municipal authorities.

C. Parents should therefore be encouraged (shouldn?t they be told that it?s ?The Law.??????) to turn to the doctor or the municipal social authorities. Never discourage anyone from reporting to the authorities. If the parents/victims report the abuse the elders will consider if they should also approach the authorities in accordance with Law of Social Service. (If it?s ?the Law? ? why are the elders only ?considering if? ? why not state ? it *must* be reported?)

2. HELP FOR THE VICTIMS
A. In case of abuse steps must immediately be taken to protect the child against additional abuse. The parents, the victim or the elders *must immediately* take contact with a doctor or the Social Authorities.

The victim *can* immediately go to the doctor or to the social authorities; they do not have to await the elder's decisions. Even though there is no cause for judicial action the elders should encourage the victim or the relatives to consider informing social authorities.

So many different inuendos for elders - "untrained volunteers" (Watchtower lead Legal Counsel).

Why not just state "It's the Law - report it." The WTBTS always muddies the waters.

Thank y'all VERY MUCH!

*sigh* - it's 5:40 am Monday (after my birthday) - and I was laying awake thinking of Pat & my phone conversation.......and I remembered MY thread!

Had to use my husband's computer.....but had to wake him first for his password. He was soooo impressed. I was impressed he could remember it at this hour.

I must say................this was the BEST birthday I've had (which really isn't saying much historically) - but my husband bought me his first birthay gift giving - and it was great. My daughter remembered the day beforehand, and my son made me a gourmet, homemade, Angel Food cake with fresh strawberries & chocolate whipped cream icing.............and Pat's called me TWICE! (Her gift is being shipped after release date. Nooooooooooooo, it's a book....I think.)

My youngest son was busy/forgot.....but he's the most like me, so I understand.

Thank you again for all the kind wishes - they are MUCH appreciated. Good friends are hard to come by - and I've made some ~~good~~ wonderful friends on the internet! So many here!

I think I mislead you on the frequency of experiements.

i find it very sad that such experiments are not longer conducted. i believe it would be very important to understand more about this behavior. -realist

The persons doing the experiments just had to find a way to experiment without putting their test subjects In Harm's Way. Even Milgram's experiment was seriously questioned because innocent people were (in their own minds) inflicting small/enormous pain on other human beings. They had to go home & ponder their own behavior - and they didn't ask to be in this type of experiment.
