long before i started on the mental road toward xjwism, soft-voiced misgivings whispered to me as i read bible stories.
why did jehovah like abel's offering better than cain's?
wasn't it cruel of abraham to banish hagar and ishmael?
(((((((((((((((((HEY Jenny!)))))))))))))))))))))))
I read The Red Tent some time ago............loved it (except for the songs - just not my style). All the "what-ifs" we were never presented with.
In The Red Tent, Anita Diamant weaves a novel around the unsettling story of Dinah. What if Dinah loved Shechem? How did Dinah feel as she was taken out of Shechem's house and saw what her brothers had done? What was Dinah's life like after this horrific slaughter?
The bible never says that Dinah did - or didn't - love Shechem. All we know is the story. And all most of us knew was that she hung around with "bad association", got raped, and her brothers killed all the men in that city because of her. It was all her fault. "Bad association spoils useful habits. Remember Dinah?"
I thought it was marvelous to think about the "what if" concerning Dinah. Who knows?
And on the other hand.............some feel that this story/account isn't factual - but a way of explaining the slaughtering that some of the Jews did in trying to establish themselves beyond being nomadic sheepherders. Remember all the references in the book as to the dust on all the people? I'd never thought about that. Try being out in a dusty field all day, and not look like the dusty field by the end of the day. Yuck.
Yanno.........it states in the Bible that Rachel stole her family's gods & then hid them from her father. But it NEVER occurred to me.........Jacob KNOWINGLY married a woman who worshipped false gods. lol - he married TWO of them. And he was blessed by Jehovah. And Jacob NEVER tried to make his wives turn to his religion/god. Being the "head of the house" - that is his biblical duty.
I had never thought about the significance of that happening in the Bible. And "all things are written as an example"..............
Good to see ya!

my son told me the other day that he and his sister are just about the only kids at the kh their age that go to public/private schools.
almost all the other kids are home-schooled.
i was rather shocked.
Hi - haven't read this thread, but wanted to suggest anyone looking to homeschool their kids (or arguements against it) ought to read the latest thread by SC Guy.
He's a home schooled jw, 17 yrs old. Very nice & highly musically talented.
And totally under his parents' iron rule.
i *can't* leave, i'm trapped.
i was talking to my twin sister tonight on how i didn't want to go to the upcoming convention this weekend because we had already been to it 2 months ago... .
i have to prepare some audition matrial for a arts event and my parents are not sympathtic to the fact i got allot to do, and we've already been.
Hey SC,
Stephanus made some good points.
When my son went to live on campus at his university, he saw a campus psych. counselor (it's provided for free to students during the 9 mo. of school). It helped him a lot. He went for 4 yrs. In fact, he went so long, he hooked up with the psych. teacher (our family's so screwy, he outgrew the *training* counselors. lol - I was requested to attend ......once. He smirked he was proud of the way his ol' ma blew off the student counselor. Some people should learn to keep their mouths shut....and not talking about me [this time.])
Anyway........when same son went to law school at same university, well, he went back to counseling with same woman. 7 yrs. free conseling ain't too bad. Something to think about, eh?
Steph's point about contacting grandma ain't bad either. She would love it - and could be a great source of familial spirit for you. Perhaps a spare bedroom too, eh?
Take care, sweetie. Don't blow away your freedom - it's precious & JW's can exact a terrible price to get it back.

Sorry - at work & didn't read second page....LOTS of agreement - don't get baptized.
But:
I finished a state-run homeschool program 3 years ago that my parents wanted me to do in 3rd Grade. I have not had much outside my home... my parents don't want me to leave... and I'm serious when I say this. My parents won't even let me get a job so I could support myself, the only thing I can really make money with is with my gigs I have at weddings, dinner parties (I'm a cellist)... even then I can't take a job that will interfere with the meetings.. I try to save every little bit, but all my money goes into a bank account that my parents have to co-sign in order for me to withdraw any money.
My pioneer sister is 25 and she's still at home because my parents really want to keep her close. The only time she ever left was to goto college for around 3 months, and she was only allowed to stay with a JW family while going to college. My parents are werid, but I don't know how do without my sisters.
I'm not highlighting any of your comments above because your family has some SERIOUS emotional control issues. Trust me on this one. There is a fine woman here, Lady Lee, who is a certified counselor in Canada. She also has a private forum. PLEASE private messenger her for some info.
You've got more than baptism problems with your family.
Take care & PLEASE pm Lady Lee.

Hello again, SC,
Does *SC* stand for where you live? If so, I live in South Carolina (near Columbia) - I also have grown (no longer in WTBTS) in SC also.
YOU AREN'T BAPTISED............KEEP IT THAT WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That IS your way around all this for some time!!!!!!! Your family doesn't have to shun you if you never get baptized - and EVERY JW knows this! If your family does shun you & your not baptized...they're biblically wrong & you can prove it. They can't prove their actions by the bible. If they still insist on shunning.....other dynamics at work in your family - best figure them out, sweetie.
My DA'ed Grandmother I have never met her up untill 3 years ago... just recently I took a visit to go see her and she was such a comfort to me. She told me life is just too short to treat people like garbage or to be wasting your time with people who treat you as such. My aunts, some of them never got dunked and they just left... my family shuns them as well... -sc
Good Lord, boy.....re-read what you wrote.
"She told me life is just too short to treat people like garbage or to be wasting your time with people who treat you as such."
Your grandmother is right. Ask her.....if she had it all to do over - would she give up her freedom of choice in life so that your father's branch of the family wouldn't shun them?
You have sooooooooo many years of life in you - just sit back & wait some. DON'T GET BAPTIZED!
Honestly! That IS your ticket to having your family (even if it's not close) in the future!

ajwrb is pleased to announce that we are now publishing a. quarterly newsletter to keep you up to date regarding developments.
around the watchtower society blood transfusion policy.. you may view the current issue of the newsletter at:.

Thanks for the update, Lee.........we need it.
i was raised by the society with the constant drumbeat in my head: "this generation will by no means pass away ...".
when i was a kid, "this generation" was defined as one who not only was alive in 1914 but was aware of the changes in the world.
they were old enough to know the world before 1914, the war on earth, the war in heaven, jesus' installation as king and so on.. .
Hey gary,
Just read your Watchtower = Corporation breakdown above. Very good.
Book distribution strategy is called Theocratic warfare and plans are being made for the Watch Tower to take over the world's government.
Theocratic Warfare, according to the Aid Book published & written by the WTBTS, is also a supposedly biblical way to earn God's approval (and WTBTS' approval) through lying to any person (government, police, military, religious, mother, father, spouse - ANYONE) "for the sake of 'this good news of the Kingdom."
Complete godly approval for lying to help the WTBTS.....no matter how serious the lie, btw.

o gary.....we ALL read your posts (I'm taking a great leap of faith there....but none more than the average jw, eh?) I know I read them - and like them.
Back to 1914 "this generation will not pass away" discussion.
1. Since 1975, the WT preached that "even little ones who could understand what was happening in 1914" were part of that generation. JW's bought it - "2 year olds can have discernment...they're potty trained, aren't they?"
2. Since 1995, the WT preaches that "no one knows how many decades is in a 'generation'....ie, the generation of Noah was 120 yrs (no more 1914 70-yr generation). JW's bought it.
3. Only a month or so ago, WT brought out "KEEP ON THE WATCH AS THE DAY & HOUR OF GOD'S DESTRUCTION MIGHT INSTANTLY BE UPON US!"......equating Noah's generation as being 120 years (AND WE ALWAYS LEARN FROM GOD'S WORD, THE BIBLE, AND HIS FAITHFUL & DISCREET SLAVE CLASS)......thus 2034 was *implied* strongly. Betcha JW's swallow, as usual, without a whimper...."God's Organization".
4. Yeah, and there's those JW's who still cry "Any day now! Any day now! Any day now!"
5. Btw, I'm not really quoting the WT....but we all know they've said it & keep saying it.

has anyone seen old school with will ferrell?
i'm still rofl!!!
it's soooo funny!!.
Welllllll, I must have been too damned sober when I watched it. Perhaps watch again after a couple of beers (my kids always said my humor & mellowness improved with liquor).
Still, "What About Mary" is one of my all-time favorites. Just hard to beat that funny trashiness.
Have a great weekend, ya'll!
Oh! I watched the movie "The Order" with Heath Ledger (luv that guy - as a mother loves, thank you.). If you have a Catholic background and/or liked the conspiracy of the Da Vinci Code - you should like this dark, rather modern gothic, movie. Styled like "Diary of a Vampire" movie - (Tom Cruise edition).
I was a tad spellbound by the whole movie.
