From what I heard, they usually didn't accept single women, unless they had some "special skill" that they were having a hard time finding elsewhere (i.e., doctor, etc.) Mostly only men and married couples. Because sexism.

I saw that they also deleted all the comments against Dick Kelly's use of the term "brain dead" to refer to JWs on the "about AAWA" page (but let his original comment remain, so, you know, their current president stands by the whole brain-dead thing. From what I have read some of the things blamed on AAWA are other Facebook groups.
Oh Jayzus, this again. Nope, that was debunked. Not that they ever apologized for planting that whopper.
And I'm not angry. Just amused that they can't seem to go a month without making a ridiculously stupid and unprofessional misstep or three.
I wouldn't blame some people for being angry, though. These idiots are approaching the media and trying to be taken seriously as representatives of ex-JWs, and speaking on behalf of JWs still in, to "help" them. Instead they're lending serious credence to the "rabid evil apostate" stereotype. Great going. I don't want some moron flipping off a Kingdom Hall and screaming at JWs that they're brain-dead sheeple claiming to represent me. That doesn't represent me. So t ake the concern trolling elsewhere. It's not written anywhere that all ex-JWs need to fall in line behind some ill-thought-out "cause" for the sake of a treacly illusion of "unity" just because we left the org and don't like the Watchtower.

Vidiot, Dick Kelly is the Secretary-Treasurer and "Interim President", plus the only remaining original corporate officer, I believe. Actually, I have a feeling he's behind the deleting of critical comments. Tommy and Renee were responding to people, albeit rudely, unprofessionally, and inappropriately. Dick never responds to critical comments. They just all disappear at once together, and then Kelly posts about how he's been "flooded with praise" and "heard no negative feedback". This is not new. It happened on their disingenuous "apology" blog, too, when people called out some of their lies. All of the critical comments were deleted, Kelly then posted something like, "By apologizing, we are so unlike the Watchtower..but then, we are AAWA".
Actually, this is pure speculation, but I'm thinking Cedars and Kelly probably had a falling out. Since Cedars doesn't exist on paper, and Barb Anderson split, Kelly holds the keys to the whole thing, officially. The incorporating paperwork is all registered under his name and address.
Anybody else thinking it was a coup?
Not that I see much difference. AAWA is failing about as miserably without Cedars as it did under his "leadership". The tone was set in the beginning, and it's only gonna get worse. Being passionate about a cause isn't enough. They lack the skills/tact/diplomacy for a delicate operation like that.

Of course, they've offered no defense for Dick Kelly's constant flubs at all, and he is a founder/officer/board member. I love how his blog comments are always vapid, self-congratulatory driveling tripe about how "remarkable" he and AAWA are, or how he's been "deluged" with positive comments.
