i just watched the live feed from the russian court room and followed the updates on the russian exjw forum.. just waiting for confirmation from other sources...but, it looks like the final (and expected) result is:.

banned.

which means that the wts property in russia now belongs to the russian state..

Yep, it *is* 2017. And my Muslim best friend has spent the past 8 or 9 years in the United States Army, putting her body on the line to protect the freedoms of the same ignorant bigots who call her a terrorist and would deport and ban her and her family, if they could.

So...yeah, I'm definitely sticking with the whole "gross, ignorant bigotry" thing. Banning religions is thoughtcrime and counterproductive, maintains this atheist. Very strange that ex-JWs left a religion with some authoritarian tendencies, only to cheer on the Russian government for their far greater authoritarianism. Hitler banned the JWs too; are we forgetting how that turned out? The Kremlin has a well-documented history of torturing, imprisoning, and murdering political dissidents. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" is far too simplistic an outlook.

Really, so lets one day your with your family on a pleasurable day outing and a local Muslim decided they needed to show their devotion and praise to their god Allah, so they ignited a bomb right where you and your family were, killing themselves and your entire family but you managed to survive the ordeal and live on.
After would you still hold to that position that any or all religions should never be banned ?

For the record, I have zero love lost for the JWs, and think their feet should be held to the fire over their child molestation procedures, etc. By all means, hold them legally accountable, and pass better legislation mandating them to report child abuse allegations, or disallowing parents from denying their children necessary medical care.

But what Russia has done is wrong, counterproductive, totalitarian, and very fucking scary. It's pretty disturbing to see so many here celebrating this. Utterly myopic and oblivious to the broader implications for human rights.

I love technology, but I've held out on the e-readers, that's where I draw the line. I cart my library of thousands of books with me every time I move (it's a PITA, but worth it). I wrote a book and I actually get significantly higher royalties for e-copies sold (because it costs the publisher so much less), but I prefer to support my local bookstores and libraries, so I encourage people to buy the printed version. Plus, then I get to sign readers' copies! Which is much more fun.

Besides, you can't (or rather, shouldn't) take an e-reader with you into a bubble bath. Checkmate.

Nope, as previously mentioned, there's a LOT of stuff he hasn't ever apologized for, and a LOT of people he and AAWA have refused to even acknowledge smearing and dragging through the mud, much less attempt making amends to. I wouldn't call that "gentlemanly" in the least. It's not even a matter of whether it can be "undone" (of course it can't!) but whether even the slightest attempt has been made to make it right with the people they publicly dismissed as liars and trolls and haters - who it turned out weren't lying at all. Even his first two or three formal "apologies" over the force-adding debacle were riddled with lies and half-truths designed to minimize his/AAWA's fault, and he really didn't appreciate it when people caught those lies, on top of all the others, and called him out on it.

But gee, thanks for playing nanny and unsolicited moral conscience and condescending to speak to everybody else (people with legitimate, valid beefs with this guy, most of whom just let it lie for the past 6 months until he started beating the drama queen drum again) like they're 5-year-olds that you're telling to kiss and make up.

@digderidoo Yeah, and I've still never seen an apology from anybody AAWA-affiliated to those of us they called liars/trolls for pointing out that they were violating the law by filing incorporating documents using a pseudonym and false address for their president (even though according to their own website, we turned out to be, uh, 100% right!) Or an apology from Cedars for posting a blog publicly trashing JWN and its members, for expressing their concern and outrage over the force-adding. Or an apology for posting Besty's real name/photo on their FB page and calling for his shunning because he wouldn't lie for them and cover up which AAWA members did the force-adding. Or for threatening that they could out me in retaliation for calling the ACC to check on the incorporating documents question, and for not lying about which AAWA member force-added me and several of my friends (Julia Barrick Douglas). Or for AAWA's banning all critical/questioning comments from their blog. Or for their interim President calling current JWs "brain dead". Or for one of their editors going on a foul rant against concerned readers who were upset by AAWA's use of a racial slur in their newsletter and requested its removal.

You're absolutely right. Just a qualified mistakes-were-made-but-not-really-by-me-I'm-sorry-if-you-were-offended "apology" repeated ad nauseam. So many things that should have been apologized for never were. But then, that's because (duh) they're not really sorry, and they don't really feel responsible. They feel entitled to do whatever the eff they want because of their ends-justify-the-means mentality. And Cedars has the unmitigated cheek to act put upon when he dredges up old wounds, to argue minutiae and semantics on one particular facet of the story, but then wants to be treated with kid gloves, wants all the rest of his/AAWA's associated despicable behavior during that time period to be off-limits for discussion. Hilarious. And delusional.

LMAO! Thanks for the update, Argentinas! Remembering being called a liar/troll or just plain wrong by AAWA and their followers after looking into this with the Arizona Corporation Commission and pointing it out here. And then receiving a threat from Julia Barrick Douglas on behalf of AAWA that she could "out" me in retaliation if she wanted to (which I guess would be a lot scarier if I hadn't already been openly out for years, but still very creepy and an abuse of power). And would you lookie there. Turns out we were correct all along, and so was the ACC! Still no apology from AAWA, though! *whistles* I won't hold my breath.

Hella creepy. At least have the decency to use a pseudonym, if you're going to do something disgusting like that.

I noticed that a family member commented in the comments section of that article about several material facts being misrepresented. And of course there's JBD, in all her tone-deaf glory, on it like a pit-bull, to shred a FAMILY MEMBER (without even knowing if this family member is a JW, or is telling the truth, or what).

Just unbelievable. Really, really ugly and disappointing.

Name of the person doing the adding is Mart** Sarf** (hopefully this is enough to go on, if you need to check your friends list). Might wanna check your groups if you're active on FB.

Yeah; I knew one (my sister had always had a major thing for him). I want to say he was there for 5 or 6 years before he got tossed in the layoffs. He moved back in with his parents, I believe. Last I heard of him a few years back, he was courting a JW girl so he's probably married by now. I was on my way out, though, so I wasn't paying much attention. Ran into him and a group of JWs once at a swing dancing venue I frequented. Made him uncomfortable by asking him to dance (as you do in ballrooms). He obliged, but was very short and curt and ran away afterwards. I imagine he'd probably heard things about me; my mom and sister were spreading stories about me being a degenerate, and my sister crushed on him hard...I heard through the grapevine she was really milking the "my sister is an evil apostate, woe is me" story for sympathy, so I suspect she used it on him in the hopes of impressing him with her spirituality.

Dunno, I remember him being a sweet kid with a slightly more wicked sense of humor than a lot of JWs. I felt bad for him, throwing away all of that time on Bethel for no pay and then being tossed aside with nothing to put on his CV for it.
