JWs nearly killed my mother
by cookiemaster inthe past week has been hell for me.
my mother started feeling ill and we went to seek medical assistance.
we live in the mountains and the nearest large hospital is about 150 kms away.

Agreed. Extremely inspiring! I applaud your efforts to save your mom's life. I'm sitting her in awe and almost in tears just thinking about how I would react in this similar situation. And then if my loved ones died because of not taking a blood transfusion. I hope to never be in that situation, but if I am, I hope to act with the same tenacity and conviction you showed! -

Anthony Morris III: "...we cannot control everything that an individual might say..."
by cappytan ini noticed that anthony morris iii just said on the broadcast: "while we cannot control everything that an individual might say, it is clear that over the decades protecting children from abuse is a top priority for this organization.".
that, in my opinion, is a direct response to the richard ashe "spiritual protection not physical protection" deposition.. here's a video putting the two statements side by side.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgevpuyn7gy.

I'm sure most publishers will just nod their heads in aggreement.
Only the ones who've suffered and the enabler elders and CO's will know better.
This right here is probably the saddest for me. People who watch the broadcast don't put brain cells on what's being said.

Candace Conti Settles
by Nitty-Gritty inhot topic on topix seems to be candace conti settlement.
but it's all quiet here.
are you guys aware that your hero, who was not in it for the money but to change policies, settled without changing anything?
-
tidalblitz
So, Nitty-Gritty, you look at the settlement and automatically portray Candace Conti in a negative light? Are you saying that she wasn't molested? Are you saying that child molestation does not happen in the JW congregations?
I think its pretty rotten of you to come to the defense of a faceless organization and attack a victim, accusing her of improper motives.
Also, what do you mean it was Candace's turn to appeal? It was the WTS that appealed to the California Supreme Court. It was the WTS that looked to settle before that court took a look at the case. Candace accepted the original verdict. She was willing to fight further if the WTS wanted to fight further. But the WTS wanted to settle and so she accepted.
You need to stop looking at this with rose tinted glasses and see the truth behind the matter. The WTS should come out boldly against child molestation. It should direct elders to announce to all parents in the congregations if a convicted child molester is in the congregation and who that person is. This secret bullshit needs to stop.. and NOW!

Yes, I honestly don't want the busywork of being an elder. I see the effort put forth and I wanted no part of that. I already hated doing the talks in the school, what more having to do that and service meeting parts and public talks! Hell NO!
In my hall, most elders in their late forties and fifties. There is one who is in their mid thirties. Lots of ms in their mid thirties as well. In my old hall, they had to bring in outsiders because all the elders were in their sixties and there was a lack of "qualified" men. All of the guys I grew up with in my old hall are pretty much out of the religion. About 8 guys in all. This religion is slowly becoming stale from the lack of new blood..

Is this doctrine still in in effect?
by WasOnceBlind inso something i never knew was the fact jw's were taught that jesus is only the mediator for the anointed class and not for everyone.
i only found this out after reading "crisis of conscience" and i was actually pretty shocked to learn so.
if that is the case, when they pray why even bother saying the words "in the name of jesus christ we ask"?

Yes, finding out this was true brought tears to my eyes. I had no idea. The bible wasn't even meant for me? Then why bother? -

I had a talk 3 this past Wednesday that I blew off. It's amazing how going to a few meetings in a row automatically makes them think it's a good idea to assign me a talk. I go to the meetings and then proceed to spend 3/4 of it outside with my 19 mo. old son. I could do the old way of giving talks, no problem.. give a discourse. The new way of doing it is BS. No way I'll do that crap.. -

Sick. I had to step away from my desk after this one. How can this type of treatment EVER be called love? I agree that this is abusive. Emotional abuse at its finest.
My nephew was baptized at the age of 8 (maybe 10) years old. He is born in and is in a foreign language congregation. He barely understands the language and cannot even hold a conversation in the language. But he was baptized at an early age. Now that he has 'sinned', he was reproved, almost df. He potentially could of lost contact with his entire family because of a decision that was made for him when he was 8 years old.
This religion is sick. It entraps people into servitude. You can never leave without at least some consequence. Just like the picture said.. Why wasn't I told that I could lose my entire family if I got baptized?

What is a good blu ray player to buy?
by hoser ini don't know much about them but my wife wants me to buy one.
the dvd player crapped out

If you need a dedicated BD player, try Oppo Digital. They are pricy but I've heard nothing but good things. Of course a PS4 is also great and you can do other things besides Blu-Ray on it. If price is a concern, like NVR2L8 said, a cheap Sony, Samsung, or Panasonic will do.
