If I win the lottery
by eyeuse2badub ini haven't yet won the state lottery but i purchased a lottery ticket last night.
if i win the lottery, it's $150 million.. if i win, my name is publicly announced and of course my picture gets into the news.
i will probably get df'ed.. however, will the wtbts accept a hefty "donation' from my 'lucky' winnings?

I play the lottery all the time.. never win. But I would be glad for them to disfellowship me because the tower wouldn't receive one cent of my hard unearned money! As for family, shoot, anybody who shuns me wouldn't get anything either! -

Mobile Hotspot - JWFACTS.COM - Assembly & Conventions
by thedepressedsoul inhere is an idea i tested.
works at both assemblies and conventions.
i have noticed at the last convention and at my last assembly that when i opened up my wifi setting, tons of hotspots came up for people tethering their tablets to their smart phones.

On iOS, if you leave the hotspot open, no one will see any files on your phone. So no worries there. If you do use a password, I recommend a random string of at least 12 characters (20 would be better) that includes upper/lower case, numbers, spaces, and/or special characters.
For the record, I will most definitely be doing this during our next assembly. However, I have to stealth forget my hotspot on my wife's and other's phones. They already have access to my hotspot.

"Major fulfillment in our day.." I thought they were getting rid of the type/anti-type bs unless it's specifically outlined in the bible? What a LOAD OF CROCK! -

Thoughts on "Our Christian Life and Ministry" meeting
by Saved_JW ini just watched the sample meeting corresponding to the new release of "our christian life and ministry" and i have a few lingering thoughts.
1- meeting layout simplified to match level of publishers.
when i grew up in the watchtower, the only real positive takeaway i have is being forced from a very young age to have the skill for public speaking, this has directly helped me with my confidence and gave me a skillset that is valuable in my current job.

They are the same as any MLM business. I've attended Primerica and WMA meetings and its the same format. Down to the 2 weekly meetings and "field service". -

Why did you choose Jehovahs Witnesses?
by vinman ini'm wondering why ones on this forum initially became jw's.
if you were born in, why did you make it "your own"?
if you became one later, what was your draw and driving force?

Also a 3rd gen born-in. I can't say that I ever made the truth my own. I got baptized because it was the thing to do. I'm not sure that I would have gotten baptized if my friends around me weren't getting baptized. 5 teenagers in our hall, including me, got baptized at the same convention. Truly, what happened with me was an indoctrination. My entire life and most of the people in it were witnesses. What else was there? Thinking back, I can honestly say to myself that I never really believed in any of it.
How anyone today can be called on by witnesses without looking them up on the internet blows my mind. Every company or product I never heard of before gets searched in Google before I do anything. I've been saved a lot of wasted time and money because of it. STAY AWAY!

Watchtard Dancing Around the Word "Rapture"
by freemindfade inthere were so many things wrong with this weeks watchtower, its hard to pick one, but one that really bothered me was this watchtower business and their delivery.
i have never seen them quite have to explain something away like this in a study article like this before.
shows me they are battling people feeling confused.

Indeed! This one had my head spinning. I know I had a confused and upset look on my face while reading this in the watchtower. I wonder if anybody noticed?
It's damn amazing how nobody even questions this stuff! Or even talk about it. Damn sheep. There could not be a more apt word for describing the r&f.. sheeple..

The folly of Watchtower's theodicy. Or, why would an all-powerful and all-wise God need to justify his sovereignty through suffering?
by Island Man inwatchtower says that evil and suffering exist at present to vindicate jehovah as being the only one qualified to govern; to bear witness to man's inability to govern himself independent of god and under satan's direction.
the claim is made that the questions raised by satan regarding god's motives as universal sovereign can only be answered by allowing humans to see the evil and suffering that results when man lives independent of god's protection and direction.. watchtower and jws seem to think that this is the best theodicy in the world.
but there are some serious flaws in it.. 1. such a theodicy suggests that all perfect and intelligent creation, up until the advent of adam and eve, did not know god and his ways well enough to be confident that his motives as universal sovereign are pure.

And to top it all off, the WT says the lake of fire will always exist for any dissenters who get tired of living in paradise and want to have sex. Remember those that are resurrected can not have sex, they can only look and wish. Anything more than looking and wishing, even just a small "touch" and into the lake of fire you go.
Yup, no sex. Isn't that just a recipe for disaster? Lots of people will have to spend all of eternity being celibate? Impossible! I mean, there will be a whole lot of resurrected ones being thrown into the lake of fire..

August Study WT "Prepare Now to be a Good Little Drone in the New Order"
by JW_Rogue ini thought paradise was supposed to be a delight?
not according to the august study wt, on page 20 paragraphs 4-12 it outlines how much paradise will be exactly like being in the org today.
still following rules, waiting on jehovah and obeying those taking the lead.

This makes it sound like Bethel life. Essentially, they are saying the bethel arrangement will be expanded to the whole world. Yikes! No thanks. I wouldn't want to live in a commune for eternity!
My idea of paradise would be doing whatever the hell I wanted, including nothing at all! Sleep all day? No problem! Go fishing? Absolutely!
"Brother, tomorrow, we need to you to go help dig ditches for the dead bodies."
Me: "No thanks. I'm busy sleeping tomorrow! And the day after that, I'm gonna start on building my own house."
"Brother, you need to follow the arrangement! You need to follow the instructions of those taking the lead!"
Me: "No thanks, I'm good."

JWs nearly killed my mother
by cookiemaster inthe past week has been hell for me.
my mother started feeling ill and we went to seek medical assistance.
we live in the mountains and the nearest large hospital is about 150 kms away.

Agreed. Extremely inspiring! I applaud your efforts to save your mom's life. I'm sitting her in awe and almost in tears just thinking about how I would react in this similar situation. And then if my loved ones died because of not taking a blood transfusion. I hope to never be in that situation, but if I am, I hope to act with the same tenacity and conviction you showed!
