this afternoon i was sitting in my kitchen watching my three year old son playing.
he was humming to himself while playing w/trucks.
i watched his little hands as they moved the toys around, i listened to his sweet little voice.
This is so beautiful. Yes, I've known moments like this, when your heart feels like it will burst because you love your children so much.

The King Wenceslaus Hollar
"Good King Wenceslaus looked out, on the feast of Stephen." Most people
know the Christmas carol about the good king who took food and firewood to
a poor peasant during the winter holidays. But they may not know the story
behind the song, the story of a Bohemian duke plagued by political intrigue,
family feuding, and murder.
"King" Wenceslaus wasn't really a king at all, but the Duke of Bohemia, which
is now part of the present-day Czech Republic. When he was born in A.D.
903, Bohemia still struggled between Christianity and paganism. Wenceslaus'
father was a Christian and his mother, Drahomira, was a pagan. Wenceslaus
chose to follow his father's religion, while his brother, Boleslaus, chose to
follow his mother's beliefs.
Wenceslaus succeeded his father as Duke of Bohemia when he was only 15.
Because he was so young, his mother served as regent. One of her first acts
was to prohibit Christianity. She even murdered Wenceslaus' grandmother,
because she was the one who taught her son to follow Christianity. After a
couple of years, the people could no longer stand Drahomira's cruelty and
asked Wenceslaus to take the throne. He did, making Christianity the official
state religion, building churches, inviting German missionaries to the region,
and helping the poor.
When Wenceslaus married and had a child, his brother Boleslaus grew jealous
as he saw his chances at taking the throne slipping away. So he and some
friends plotted Wenceslaus' murder. They knew that Wenceslaus planned to
attend Mass for a saint's feast day, and they arranged to meet him at
church. He agreed, and they murdered him on the steps of the church. He
was declared a martyr and a saint almost immediately.
But what about that song? Where did it come from? Anglican minister John
Mason Neale wrote the carol in 1853 as part of a collection of songs for
children. Although he had never visited Bohemia, Neale heard the story of
Good King Wenceslaus from British soldiers who had returned from Eastern
Europe. He set the tale to music to teach children about the virtue of
generosity.

Okay, so I didn't want you all to think that I'm an ignorant slut, so I didn't share this with you, but a few weeks ago I took a very, very hard test (the final phase of my Senior Clerical Assistant application at the college district where I work). I aced the English section, finished it way before the alloted time was up. But the MATH! yeck. It was soooo hard and I only got half way through. And I thought I had most of my answers wrong. Dammit, I use a calculator.
I got a letter today from hr congratulating me on passing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I made it! They will be notifying me for interviews. This means I'll be making over $400 more a month!!!!!!!!!!!!! God, I can't tell you how happy I am. I will ask my boss at the Exxon station if I can work just two nights a week and if I can, I will be making another $400 a month. My future looks so much better. My heart is beating so fast. I had to share this with you. This is such a great Christmas present! Wow!!!! hehehehe
Love you,
Dottie, with a huge smile on her face!

when you were active, did you buy any lottery tickets?
i know a xjw who told me that he never stopped buying lottery tickets, even when he was active.
he always asked somebody else to go get them for him, so that he wouldn't be seen buying them.
I never gambled as far as lotteries or casinos go, but I used to like getting in on promotions from supermarkets and Coca Cola. Once I won a red teeshirt that said "I Won" on it. hahaha
It's funny that you posted this today. The man who drives me home from work stopped at 7/11 last night to buy his weekly lottery ticket and guess what? I bought my very first one! Okay, okay, it IS a waste of money, but I really got excited about buying it. I sell them at the Exxon station I work at and I will probably start buying them regularly. Hell, it's supposed to help schools, right? Edited to add: I won my $5 back! hehe

i'm not very craftsy, but i have a thing about crocheting dishcloths.
it's a basket-weave design and i have mentioned in the past how it helps me to keep sane.
i have been suicidal lately and thought, why not send these dishcloths out to my friends and they will always have a little piece of me to be remembered by.
Mak, I will write to you and Sabine. I love you both. I still have that pic of you on the beach with those strategically placed sombreros, hahahahaha I would like a new one with a dishcloth on your...er...strategic place. I will make an extra large one. hehe
Outlaw, Meatie, EVERYONE, send me your frickin info because I really, really want to do this for you!
((BobsGirl)) I LOVE that profile saying you have in your post. WOW. It is beautiful! I am adopting it as my new crochet motto.
Edited to tone down my naughtiness.
