Society profiting from Conventions

i am sure that this has been talked about, but i would love to hear recent input.

there have been district assemblies where parking is charged, and all the "brothers and sisters" who are taking time off of work, etc, and cannot afford to go to this assembly but have to go, are paying good money for admission to the stadium.

many times not allowing come and go privledges.

I WAS DISGUSTED TO FIND OUT THAT WHERE THE CONVENTIONS USED TO BE HELD AT THE CIVIC CENTER IN PROVIDENCE, RI THE SOCIETY HAD AN ARRANGEMENT FOR THE USE OF THE PARKING FACILITY AT "NO CHARGE" AS THE SERIES OF CONVENTIONS EACH SUMMER WOULD BRING COMMERCE INTO THE CITY. BUT THEN THEY WOULD TURN AROUND AND CHARGE THOSE ATTENTING FOR PARKING. I REMEMBER STRONGLY BEING ENCOURAGED TO GET OUR PARKING TICKETS AT THE KINGDOM HALL BEFORE THE CONVENTION. WE WOULD PURCHASE THEM IN ADVANCE AND HAVE A TICKET WITH A WATCHTOWER SYMBOL TO PUT ON OUR DASHBOARD. FROM WHAT I NOW UNDERSTAND---THEY POCKETED THE $.

yep, left them a "present" a little lamb with a note regarding the "silenced lambs" and the silent lambs web site.

i got them at the local mall at a kiosk that sells beanie babies, they also sell them at walmart. i figured that it would be o.k. for the lambs to pay a visit at the kingdom halls where they got abused.

i am still shaking from the phone call!!!!!!

i just go off the phone with a reporter from the dallas morning news(paper).

she is a reporter for the religion section of the paper and she was interested and disgusted with what i told her--about the 2 witness policy.

JUST GOT HOME A SHORT WHILE AGO AFTER VISITING A COUPLE OF LOCAL KINGDOM HALLS. YEP, LEFT THEM A "PRESENT" A LITTLE LAMB WITH A NOTE REGARDING THE "SILENCED LAMBS" AND THE SILENT LAMBS WEB SITE.

THEY'LL BE THERE TO GREET THE PIONEERS AND PUBLISHERS FOR THEIR EARLY MORNING FIELD SERVICE MEETING.

THE LAMBS WILL BE DOING THEIR OWN WITNESSING.

WOW, THAT DOESN'T EVEN LOOK REAL!!! IT'S REALLY BEAUTIFUL!!! I HOPE TO GET THERE SOME DAY, BUT THERE SURE ARE SOME BEAUTIFUL SUNSETS. I CATCH THEM UNAWARE AND USUALLY DON'T HAVE MY CAMERA. I'M NO LESS IN AWE EACH AND EVERY TIME I GLIMSPE THEM.

cab ride

twenty years ago, i drove a cab for a living.

when i arrived at 2:30 a.m., the building was dark except for a single light in a ground floor window.

TJ that was a very moving account. thanks for sharing it. when i was "in" the only experiences that seemed to matter or were given any merit and attention were those involving "giving a witness etc." it's great to be OUT and to simply enjoy the moments that present themselves in our lives.

Transitions after leaving the borg..experiences?

i am just going to put this out here to see how you all feel about this.......... here goes............... do you think that being a jw , especially raised in it, has taken away your chance of ever trusting yourself ever again in regards to what you believe in?

i mean , you can read books, many by very educated men/women, you can read every bible printed, you can read every self help book, but do you find yourself at times just not caring anymore?

i mean once your trust has been broken, what is the point in reading another man's version of what truth/reality is?

hi lyin eyes,

i walked away back in 1997, and it has been quite an emotional rollercoaster. i felt like Rip Van Winkle waking up and now having to get acquainted with the world again. i feel strongly that i was "spritually raped". i gave my youth, my time, my assets, my will, and my whoe being to this CULT. i feel i was taken advantage of and the best parts of me were exploited for the "truth". i know i'm not alone here in my feelings and experiences within the WT. i don't think i'll ever be a part of an organized religion again. the thought of it is most DISTASTEFUL to me. it took me a long time to trust my own judgements and gut feelings, but i do for the most part. it's everyone else i'm not sure about. my sister once said to me that "everyones an asshole until they prove different to me." i've met wonderful and beautiful people upon leaving that i never would have the pleasure of knowing if i was still in. i see GOODNESS as i never have before, but i also believe there is EVIL in this world that i can't explain. i think i'm a spiritual person for me, and i no longer care what others think of me. there is a FREEDOM that i truly enjoy. but there isn't a day that goes by yet where i don't think of those left behind or the "lost years" of my life. with each day, month and year since i've left i feel more at peace than i ever did before.

geez, i didn't mean to ramble i hope my small experience was in some way helpful to you.

Any Brooklyn Bethelites from '93 - '98?

i guess i should introduce myself for i am a new poster-boy :-) my name is jason howard and i currently reside in santa cruz, california.

i spent the first 24 years of my life as a jw, starting in danbury, ct, then to fayetteville & charlotte, nc, and finally brooklyn, bethel, where finally all of my negative inner thoughts and feelings were confirmed.

(from the ages of 14-24 i always felt something just didn't add up with the organization, but i could never quite put a finger on it) i spent my career at bethel in the brooklyn warehouse/purchasing departments and worked with some really great individuals.

thanks for the reply. i went to pioneer school with jim lutrell, and he married my former roommate . did you happen to be at that wedding back in '87? also, i heard he and his wife left their assignment in costa rica and are back home to mass. and have a daughter. i wonder what happened to his brother. how long you been out?
