  Newbie alert !!! Just wanted to say hello...

  i came here by chance...looking for none other than jw material:) i am currently studying with jw's and attend the kh but am not baptized, as are none of the members of my fam...yet.

  i've been studying for almost 4 years with the witnesses.

  i am confused...that's the simplest way of putting it.

  sadiejive: I think you are doing the right thing studying the Bible. I understand your doubts and worries also. I am still a Witness and have grown up as one. I grew up as a Witness in a country that persecuted us for our beliefs. It was tough, but at the same time I had the priviledge of relying completely on Jehovah when the going got tough.

  As far as baptism, no one can make you do it or not do it. It has to come from your heart.

  It is excellent that you are investigating, it is always good to make an educated choice. This board is full of characters. Unfortunately some don't believe in a God, some don't believe in the Bible. Always investigate things you hear and read with your own bible and come to your own conclusions.

  Kwanzaa and Festivus

  the question is: can jehovah's witnesses celebrate kwanzaa or festivus?

  two completely fabricated holiday's created during the 20th century.

  one is serious, the other a farce.. will you get in trouble at the hall for celebrating them?

  first of all id like to say hello to everyone on this website, and to thank and acknowledge each and every one of you for your individuality, personal experience, and in some cases, commitment to truth.. having read some of the heartfelt topics and posts here have served to be a great encouragement to me, more than some could imagine.

  my name is jason, and i am a recovering ex-jw.. i guess this would be an ideal time to tell my life story as an abbreviated version, so here goes.. i was "born into, or raised" in the organization.

  my grandfather was an elder for 45 years, and served as one of the very first jw in the south chicagoland suburbs.

  I'm not surprised that the elders encouraged the girl to lie about being out of town

  Of course you are only assuming that the girl lied. How do we know she lied? Oh because this Reborn guy says so. We cannot be sure of what happened when we hear just one side of the story. Am I a little paranoid? maybe, but again here is a guy that was accused of raping a young girl. He says it did not happen, he only spent the night in her bed. He says that the girl lied to cover up and make her look innocent. If that was true, she would say the same thing he is saying, that it was all innocent and nothing happened. Why would she degrade herself by saying he raped her? It doesn't make sense.

  this is something that you know said that was going to happen and that it would be the start of future economic downfall all over the world.

  You are right Joel. What the Argentinean people are going through is very scary. I think the problem is that all economic systems are so interrelated, they feed off each other, that one collapse and the whole thing will be in trouble.

  What if there was not DFing of apostates?

  Some interesting comments here. So what I am understanding that it's not really a problem with being disfellowshipped or excommunicated, but the problem lies in shunning?

  I was wondering today. What if the Witnesses did not have a policy of disfellowshipping those that are apostates. What would the congregations be like? Would there be unity?

  I understand many here were DFed for apostasy and are against this policy. We could also go one step forward, what if there would be no disfellowshippings at all, for any reason. What then?
