Are you people seriously trying to defend the doctrine while denouncing the leadership that created that doctrine?

"The organisation is imperfect, but it doesn't affect my relationship with Jehovah"
by Alive! ini've noted active, devoted jw's state the above.. and, it's not a problem for me to remain trusting of god, i just don't trust religions or men.. recently, a member of this forum stated that he remains an active jw, in the family of god's people, wanting to encourage and do good - whilst recognising that the pastoral leaders (the gb) have shipwrecked the faith of many, being unsound scripturally etc, etc.. stop and think about this - the bible says to not follow after those who lie and hurt the faith of "little ones".. the pharisees were accused of traversing over lands and expending much energy to make a single convert - only for that convert to end up worse of than he started off with.. it's one thing to not believe this is the 'truth' and feeling the awful pressure of managing ones life, trying not to lose ones family.. it's quite another thing to declare oneself to be a christian believer of god's jw household, and somehow believe the god of love would use corrupt liars to parade as jesus' brothers in the urgency of last days.
really?
and, to then visibly promote faith in corrupt men, and try to bring converts into a place where the rulership is wrong.. some of us are dying from hurt here.......give me a break..

Why I remain one of Jehovah's Witnesses
by Brother Jeramy inallow me to begin with a clarification: when i say i am one of jehovah's witnesses, i don't mean that i am an advocate of the watchtower society or a devotee of some of its more controversial false teachings.
i mean that i am a christian, a disciple of jesus christ dedicated to jehovah god, and who remains in union with my brothers and sisters who make up the family of faith that globally refers to itself as jehovah's witnesses.
some totally understand the distinction between the family of brothers and sisters and the corporate organization known as the watchtower society (wts).

In my experience, this site does welcome both views.
One of those views just happens to be batshit insane, and those who can see that are always here to helpfully point it out.
Good day.

How Do You Feel About All The Time You Wasted Being. A Jehovah's Witness?

I was born in (never baptized thankfully), now in my 20's and mentally out and I would be ecstatic (and I am to some degree), if not for the fact that my wife is still lingering and my kids are being indoctrinated by her uber-zealous family at every opportunity. What I regret the most? I was prepared to live in a world that doesn't and won't actually exist, and I find myself desperately ill equipped to live successfully in this one. As has been said though, no use in wallowing in the past. I am now pursuing skills to improve my life and that of my family in order to hopefully one day be completely free. In the meantime, every meeting takes a grating toll on my mental health. Every time my son asks me a question that I can't answer honestly ("How did Jehovah create __________?, etc."), it's a knife to the chest. -

Another scientific gem from Brooklyn

The worst part is that JW's who read this will be reinforcing their denial of a key and beautiful theory of the world around us. They won't be able to experience the joy and wonder of discovering the amazing truth about evolution. It answers questions you never knew you had and makes you ask questions that lead into more amazing insights about abiogenesis, geology, paleontology, archaeology, astrobiology, cosmology......such a waste. To the poor witness that tries to push this on an unsuspecting householder:

Do You Think Humanity Will Ever Be Completely Free From Religion?
by InjusticeSystem ini realize that many here still have a form of spirituality or faith, and i mean no disrespect to those individuals.
i suppose i am posting this question to those, like myself, who have come to the conclusion that religion in general is a major hindrance to the progress of our species and needs to be put aside so that we can advance to our full potential.
so my question is, do you think this will ever actually happen, and how do you think we can get there?

I must clarify: I do not believe and I am not suggesting that Religion is the only evil, nor that it is the cause of all evil. There are many other evils (war, crime, prejudice, injustice, etc.) that are the main issues humanity faces today. However, I do believe that religion is a warped mirror that distorts the actual cause and nature of the evils in the world, and therefore warps the way we take action against such evils. For instance, the Witnesses. They believe that when something terrible happens (outside of "time and unforseen occurence"), it is a symptom of Satan and his demons causing the world to deteriorate further and further because they have a short time left, and things can only (and must) get worse. They believe there is no way to fight this or improve it, and because of that they do not take the necessary steps to begin solving the problems faced by the world.
Religion blames evil in the world on an outside source (Satan and his demons) and a made up internal force (inherited sin), stopping any possibility of humanity being able to solve its own problems without outside intervention. This belief is self-defeating and breeds an apathetic population of victims. In order to improve our world, Religion must be let go of so that humanity can honestly evaluate our problems and, most critically, take steps toward correcting them. We only get one world, one shot, and no one is coming to save us. It is vital that we have a clear, rational purpose and sense of urgency in these matters.

I would definitely agree that some people have "needed" religion in the past in that it was the only way to convince them to turn their lives around and stop destructive behaviors to themselves or others. However, I can't help but feel that this is the right thing done for the wrong reason, and is therefore not something to propagate but something that needs to be corrected much further back in the person's life. If the only reason these individuals have to not act destructively is their faith, then if that reason is removed will they revert to their previous behavior? The reasoning behind the thing being done must be solid and correct if the action or content of the principle is to mean anything. There are so many different things (poverty, racism, bad parenting, etc.) that led up to someone making the decision to act destructively, and adding the band-aid of religion is not a solution, just a treatment of the symptom.

Cofty - I certainly hope that there are more like yourself.
I would love to live to see the day when the need for religion is gone. I realize there are many factors that would need to change in order to make that happen, but I certainly hope that is what we are evolving toward.

Sofia Lose - What a cruel joke that would be, you may agree. Although its true in my experience that type of devotion does need to be replaced by something, hopefully something much more moderate and constructive.
Talesin - You and me both.

Ivanatahan - this has become one of my worst fears as of late (as I watch my mother slip back into the Borg after being inactive for several years), that we will never be able to fully rid ourselves of the fear and ignorance that make some continue to cling to religions like the Society.
Freemindfade - i agree 100%, it seems that until we can replace that ignorance with the actual truth about the history of ourselves and our world and universe, religion is here to stay. A sad prospect since so many are so very unwilling to learn those truths (evolution, etc.).
