It doesn't matter if those stories were complete fabrications - the Organization's stance on sexual assault is laid out in their literature. Sexual assault DOES occur, and when it does they DO blame the victim, and they DO NOT take action against offenders, even going so far as to try to humanize them, defend them. The Organization has stated in the past that if a women doesn't scream, she's guilty. Read the verses in Deuteronomy that this idiotic principle is based off of - this is coming from a time when a woman's only value was as a virgin.

What kind of person would stand behind that?

A very brave young woman. One of the most definitive and damning pieces of information that made me completely reject this religion is their policy toward sexual assault victims. If more people were aware of that, the Organization wouldn't survive.

Wait wait wait wait wait........So can I seriously wait until after Babylon the Great has fallen and then choose to join up with no repercussions for stalling? Because that might actually be somewhat reasonable. Please someone tell me I can use this as a way to get my overbearing family off my back. Are they saying that there will be no difference in the chance of being saved if you join up now or when the judgement message is being preached?

I would love to be able to tell my MIL, " Well I'm an athiest now, but if everything works out with the predictions I'll jump on when the time comes. In the meantime, I'm gonna actually be happy and do the shit I want. Thanks."

What Jehovah's Witnesses need to do to become Mainstream

i was raised a jehovah's witness, so i know all the "ins-and-outs" of their theology and belief system..

in my view, they can become a part of mainstream christianity and lose their cult status by making just a few changes for the better:.

1: stop their severe shunning practices.

And if they do somehow manage to become more "mainstream?" Every incremental change will be heralded as new light and gobbled up by the R&F, even as their religion becomes completely unrecognizable to those who recognize their past.

Can this religion just die already?

Rumor about the Imitate Jesus Convention

i saw a rumor a few weeks ago on reddit that the new imitate jesus convention is supposed to present new light and clarified understandings on the disfellowshipping/disassociation practices.. supposedly, if this rumor has any truth to it, there will be a talk given at the convention about how we should not be strict like the pharisees in how we shun people, loosening up some of the jw rules about this practice.. has anyone here heard anything about this or have more info on it?.

That would be unprecedented, but I'm highly skeptical.

I agree with xwhyzee above, I think this would cause a huge shift in awareness if suddenly JW's were able to associate on some level with their family or friends that are DF or DA without fear of punishment. This seems unlikely because it would expose current JW's to different (and most likely negative) thinking towards the Borg, and may even cause them to question why they were unable to associate before, but suddenly (on an apparent whim) they can.

Bad for the Borg, great for a lot of us here.

Therefore, unlikely.

Please read The Rocks Don't Lie by David R. Montgomery.

Mr. Montgomery is a Geologist. The first part of the book is a walk through of the Grand Canyon explaining all the layers, how they were lay down, and when.

There is NO evidence, and absolutely no possibility that a global flood ever inundated the Earth in the manner described in the bible. There is not enough water for one, and the Vapor Canopy has been vaporized by logic and evidence in other threads.

Crack a book not written by a cult every now and again. It's quite refreshing.

Paradise is going to suck!

once you really start thinking about it, the whole paradise idea is kind of depressing.

i remember growing up as kids my sister was the first to tell my parents (admittedly very courageously) that she wasn't sure she wanted to live in paradise, it sounded boring living forever.

i thought she was dumb for thinking that, i mean playing with lions!!!!

Paradise is going to suck!

P.S. This has been a subject of some debate in my house lately, namely the suddenly vegan diet of carnivorous paradise animals. You seem to have an excellent grasp on the problems inherent in this conversion. Do you happen to know of other similar roadblocks (I know there are plenty but just a few examples would be very helpful for my JW family should the subject arise again) in other species that make this scenario impossible given their current needs? Any suggestions are appreciated.
