There is 1 thing that I am clearly seeing going on with many people and that is that when these things start coming out people's faith in the organization slowly begins to dissipate. They may not express it right away but in the right circumstances they will say that they are bewildered. Eventually, they begin to question things. But it all starts with being exposed to questionable things a little at a time. There is no 1 thing that will shock people to leave the organization unless there is a cumulative effect making something the last straw.

NCC reaches out to WTS / LDS !!!
by Amazing inon another front, a more slow and subtle change is emerging.
the national council of churches in the usa ( a member of the world council of churches) ... has made a policy statement regarding two 'cult-like' denominations: .
the church of jesus christ of latter day saints (mormon) and jehovah's witnesses (watchtower society).

Why dont JW's have a youth group?
by In_between_days insomething that has been alarming to my jw family is the amount of teens ("young ones") that have bailed out of the organisation, never to return.. they use the excuse, as would most jw's that "satan is getting them - he knows young ones are vulnerable.".
if you want my opinion, young people are getting far more educated - they are becoming far more broad minded than they were say 10 or 20 years ago.
because of the slow yet sturdy slackening of the "no college" rule, many more young jw's are attending university or college than ever before, and with further education comes more knowledge, more interaction with reasonable and intelligent conversations with educated people and most importantly -use of the internet ("satans latest tool, as put by a jw i talked to recently).

They are concerned that somebody might get confused with the Nazi youth group.

What's the worst thing the JWs/WTS could do now?
by dustrabbit inthis isn't really a joke, but i do wonder if the jws could anything worse than they already have.
i don't think/suspect that the dubs would go off and do a mass-killing/suicide of themselves, a la jonestown or waco.
but you do have to wonder now that the pedophile and the un/wts-connection scandals have came to "light", so to speak, what else is brewing in the underbelly of the society?.

I think this allegation was made sometime ago regarding the wbts involvement with the World Council of Churches but this could never be verified. I really don't think any certain allegation or involvement will phase the average witness. You could expose that the Witnesses have been deeply involved in the drug trade or that they have been secretly financing the Vatican, and the Christian Congregation will convince the brotherhood that we are being maligned. The only thing that will really hurt the organization is when more groups of people say that they really don't care what the organization says and ultimately ignore the establishment.

The "mini-god" Elder syndrome...
by dustrabbit inprofessor: since you stated in another thread that your dad sees himself as a "mini-god", it got me wondering.
does jehovah, if he actually exists, views the gb/the elders and other religious leaders along with jesus as "mini-me"s, as in the "austin powers" characters?.

I don't think mini-god is the term most elders would use for themselves but most elders do feel they are special. They now believe they represent the royal priesthood. They believe they are deserving of everybody's respect. They believe you should not challenge their authority. They believe they inspire trust and that they have God's approval. They even believe they are humble.

Monthly Complaint
by comforter inthe watchtower has said that those who deviate from the faith only seek to pull down and do not try to build up.
they have no positive teachings.
only negative ones.

THE AUGUST 1,2002 WT. TELLS OF AN EXPERIENCEOF A WOMAN WITH SEVERE DEMENTIA, SO BAD, THAT SHE NEEDED TO BE REMINDED TO SWALLOW HER FOOD. THIS PERSON SAW HER CARETAKER WEEPING OVER SOME PROBLEM. SO SHE PUT HER ARMS AROUND HER AND INVITED HER CARETAKER TO STUDY THE BIBLE WITH HER. SHE THEN INSTRUCTED HER TO READ EACH PARAGRAPH, LOOK UP THE CITED SCRIPTURES, READ THE QUESTION AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE, AND THEN ANSWER IT.THIS DEMENTED WOMAN EVEN REALIZED THAT HER CARETAKER NEEDED SOMEONE TO ASSOCIATE WITH THAT ALSO WOULD BE INTERESTED IN SERVING GOD.SO, SHE GAVE HER STUDENT A DRESS AND A PAIR OF SHOES SO THAT SHE COULD HAVE SOMETHINHG APPROPRIATE TO WEAR FOR HER FIRST MEETING.AT HER FIRST OPPORTUNITY THE CARETAKER WALKED INTO THE KINGDOM HALL WITH HER NEW DRESS AND SHOES AND ASKED FOR A BIBLE STUDY. NOW SHE IS BAPTIZED! SOOOO.....NEVER SAY THAT YOU CAN'T PREACH.EVEN THE SEVERELY DEMENTED CAN STUDY WITH YOU.

Stop and Listen !!!!!! NNOOOWWWWW
by out4good3 inwhat is it with hardcore jw's who think that everytime an elder speaks everyone should drop what they're doing and listen?.
i was over a relative's house the other day when two elders came by for a shepherding call.
they wound up talking to the wife because the husband, who fell away after the 1975 fiasco, was hiding out in the back of the house.

MAYBE THE REASON THAT MANY ELDERS MAY FEEL THAT THEY ARE SPECIAL IS BECAUSE THE LATEST WATCHTOWER SAYS THAT THEY REPRESENT THE ROYAL PRIESTHOOD.
