JWs Proselytizing on University Campus!!!

imagine my horror as i walked out of my french class this morning to see someone setting up a table, covered in lovely royal blue felt, with two tiers of watchtower literature attractively displayed.

imagine my chagrin when i realized who the "sister" was who was going to sit outdoors and chat up passersby: my former congregation's po's wife!.

i am not sure what university policy is in general as regards proselytizing on campus (but i intend to find out).

Meanwhile, I shall carry sidewalk chalk in my pocket so if/when she DOES return and I am present, I can write on the sidewalk in front of her (also permitted), "It's a cult, you know." with an arrow pointing to her display. And then, if it's sunny, make myself available with a posterboard alongside me declaring myself an escapee willing to explain why joining is NOT a good idea.

You have my smile of approval. You're exercising your right to free speech as much as she is.

It will probably sell for the value of the land and torn down.

I think so too. Think about this: if the building is musty and has, say, electrical problems, who is going to buy and occupy it "as is". It would require a lot of work. Besides, not so many businesses could move in without major modifications in the building.

To me, a KH for sale is a big deal. I never thought that a KH would be built and, when it appreciated enough, they would simply sell it and rebuild somewhere else...

Could it be a combination of factors such as appreciation of the land + dwindling attendance?

It doesn't seem to be the case. The building looks good from the outside and is well located. It is really intriguing!

When I saw this, I couldn't help but remember of that doctrine that would go like 'the waters of Babylon, the Great, will dry out and she will see her end', remember? We live in momentous time indeed...

The Hall seems well maintained and quite BIG. Would that be the case of a congregation that became too big for the hall? I don't think so.

French High Court confirms 60-percent confiscatory tax measure on religious

following a tax inspection lasting 18 months, the tax department established that association les temoins de jehovah, whose sole revenue consists of religious donations by its adherents, was run in a completely benevolent fashion, and that its activities were not commercial or for profit.

nevertheless, the tax department levied a 60-percent tax on the religious donations made over a period of four years, between 1993 and 1996. this represents, on average, five euros per donor, per month.

I think this has to do with wheather or not they're able to prove their charity work. Since they couldn't... you get the point.

But it'd be nice to get info from anyone who knows the other side of the story; the story that the WT will never tell its members.

I have on good source that the MEPS has been phased out for quite some time now. The reason: MEPS was replaced by commercial systems that cost a lot less to purchase and maintain.
