Do you think x-JW's need a crutch?
by digderidoo ini have thought this for a while...that when you leave the org, it's as though a vaccuum needs to filled.
when i left i threw myself into politics, it was as if i needed something to do with my mind and thoughts.
this lasted about three years or so, but even now i drink more than perhaps i should, as though i can escape through drink.

Prisca,
Ditto. For me it was a breath of fresh air - a release to freedom to live and explore my life. I've been balanced. I find that I'm a "volunteer". I've did 3 charities last year, and I'm already involved in the MS Society this year.
I think its trying to "find yourself". What do you like, dislike, agree with, believe???? etc. after all those years of being told what to believe, do, etc. Perhaps some still immerse themselves in things that won't allow them to explore (for whatever reasons - fear?!?!) as a sort of "escapism".
One thing I've learned is you can't force others to see things as you do - we're all on our own journey, and we all have our own comfort levels.
Concentrate on yourself, where are you? What are you doing, learning, etc? You may feel concerns for your friends/family that may be doing harmful things, but than again, you're not them. They may be doing what they need to do at this point in their lives.
My 2 cents.

A word of advice....
I found when I wrote the UN that I got a response much quicker via email. I never received a written letter. The Society sent me their "response" 2 weeks after I sent them my initial letter (I didn't send any attachments), however they never wrote back to my questions.... hmmmm. 2 weeks later I was DF'd.
[email protected] - Dana responded from the UN regarding my library pass question, and also sent me an attachment spelling out the WTBTS disassociation from the UN.
[email protected] - spelled out for me the NGO relationship with the UN
I also wrote to Stephen Bates, the journalist who opened this story in Britian, and caused the Society to withdraw their association.
Hope this helps and good luck.

Ditto, anti-absolutist. Thats how I feel. I believe we all have a gut instinct about the afterlife. As was said earlier, every religion teaches "life after death". I don't think it hurts anyone to hope for more than this life, however, live your life like this is the only one.
Gawd, doesn't it feel good to NOT HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS. I remember the feelings I'd have of "knowing" what happened after death, and feeling a "pity" to all those that didn't know. Stupid, eh?

We'd Like to KILL the apostates, but we can't....
by betweenworlds ini read this quote at tom's site (thanks tom!
) and then looked it up for myself on the wt cd.
this is truly disturbing and shows their true mindset....this is from the nov. !5th 1952 question from readers.

"Being limited by the laws of the worldly nation in which we live and also by the laws of God through Jesus Christ, we can take action against apostates only to a certain extent, that is, consistent with both sets of laws. The law of the land and God’s law through Christ forbid us to kill apostates, even though they be members of our own flesh-and-blood family relationship. However, God’s law requires us to recognize their being disfellowshiped from his congregation, and this despite the fact that the law of the land in which we live requires us under some natural obligation to live with and have dealings with such apostates under the same roof. "
Here's a thought... Rome had the same limits of law for the jews. They couldn't "stone" those who broke the Law. I remember a few years ago, when I was leaving Dubdom, I found an article (WT???)dealing with Rome and "sinful jews" - how the law limited the Isreal way of punishment, so in fact, they were restricted from the temple, and in "effect" disfellowshipped. So I brought up the point to my mom... who did Christ preach to??? Simply put, it was the sinners - the ones of the Isreal nation that "left" because of the pharisees/burdens/law, etc. He associated with the "disfellowshipped" ones - ones who were "raised" as Jews, knew the laws, but did not live by it.
If anyone can find the article, its about 2pgs. I just moved, and I don't have my "library" and I refuse to polute my computer with the CD .

http://www.explorernews.com/display/inn_news/Features/features1.txt
But interestingly, look at this quote from the article
"I'm not of the anointed," Tipton said, "so I cannot tell you how they know they are of the 144,000, but they know. And if they know, they receive and then we report that number to the Governing Body ... the number is decreasing because Witnesses are dying and of course the anointed have been counted since the time of Jesus' memorial meal."
Oh, brother... has he even LOOKED at the January issues over the past 10 years?!?! The figures are a'rising. I can hardly wait to see how many more have "had the calling"

Blondie - you have no idea how much your insite is appreciated
I just finished looking at the Purelanguage.net site - and OMG its refreshing to be back to this site where one can think for themselves and offer their opinion.
I was disgusted to see "report this post to moderator" on all member posts, just in case it left the "theocratic order".
I'm hoping your lack of meeting attendence won't diminish your weekly "bible" study. You are one smart chickie!!!

JWs & the united Nations
by sandy incan anyone tell me how to find the information proving that the jws have dealings with the un and that they are in fact members.

Sandy,
I wrote & emailed the UN directly. They emailed me back the same day... whereas I never recieved anything by mail.
The WTBTS wrote me back (their form letter).
I also wrote to the journalist who broke the story in England... he emailed me back.
Hmmm, I used the UN website to print off their brochure on NGO's etc. and I also got the Librarian at the library to respond.
All in all, it took about 2 months to get everything... the Society being the longest to respond. They never wrote back to my 2nd letter questioning the "library" excuse.
I have all original info (which I wanted) with no "apostate" tracings - but of course, they supplied all the emails, sites, etc. that I needed to gather the info. My family was much more receptive to looking at the info with it being all originals instead of "site" prints. But trust me, the info is indeed reliable.

THE ANTHROPIC PRINCIPLE
by Nowhere ini found this in one of my course books.
it's quite interesting, added to a chapter dealing with dynamics of friedman-robertson-walker universes.
it looks to me like this man doesn't deny the possibility of a diety, and he is a respected scientist, no creation-pseudo-nonsens-scientist.

Nowhere - this is my last post on this subject.
Firstly, I have a sense of humor, and often use it when someone is being too serious. Lighten up, its only a Theory, and I'm free to express my point of view.
Second, in expressing my point of view, I do not appreciate you swinging mud and telling me that I'm clinging to JW logic. God, give me a break. If you don't accept my reasoning, fine - but don't lower yourself to degrading my point of view.
Third, I've started other posts and the member's have either agreed or disagreed with me - added their thoughts, expanded my viewpoint, etc. That's the point of this board... if you feel backed into a corner with your reasoning, perhaps accept a different perspective (and disregard it if necessary - I'm disregarding yours)... but show some manners.
Ohhhhh - one last thought. Since time is indefinite, could it be possible that instead of there being multiple universes (simultaneously) perhaps this universe has experienced the various combinations already. I personally believe "life" is hardy, not rare, and exists in the most difficult of conditions.

Abaddon (angel) - thanks for seeing my point, some folks on this board are "obsessed with sperm" and still don't get the point... perhaps "A" should have made it instead of "C" and then we'd see how important it is... I'm wondering if Nowhere believes a "soul" enters the fertilized egg (hmmmm), if so I could see how it doesn't matter.
Nowhere - "And the anthropic principle migh be just that explanation, and it is very compelling. Then we don't have to wonder why we are here, the answer would be that there is no other alternative. And for me, a diety is something that explaines why there is a universe in the first place. It does not explain why the universe is as we know it."
I respect your "for me, a diety explains why there is a universe", thinking. My thinking is, why wonder beyond the reality of life - you need an invisible to expain the reality (a diety, multiple universes THEORY). Then you're hooped. It may satisfy some for short while, but then others may begin asking "Who created the diety?" "What were the conditions that allow/ed for his existence?" or "Was there a 'Big Bang' that caused all the multiple universes?" "Were there multiple/multiple universes?" I have a headache.
Ahhh, Abaddon - I do believe that all life wonders about the conditions that permit it to live. I know my cats ponder "if the food wasn't crunchy and given to me daily, the toilet seat left up so I could drink cold fresh water, the house temp. kept to a chilly 69C" (oops)... I'm degressing - can't get that damn sperm out of my head.
