Is Imperfection the same as Sin?
by jgnat inlately i have made some pretty bold statements about the value of dialogue.
so i thought i would put it in to practice.
i've picked this topic, one i have not studied out thoroughly.

sin=missing the mark,( or informally put anything then will seperate us from God)so adam and eve brought imperfection to existence
So does sin=imperfection???? What is imperfection? Are they tied together? Explain how both Job and Noah were perfect.

Job 1:1 "There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God and turned away from evil"
Genesis 6:9 "THese are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, and perfect in his generations; Noah walked with God"
hmmmm, perfect people die I wonder, did they sin????

Did God really create the mosquito? Or, was it Satan?
by Schizm inpeople who profess belief in the god of the bible refer to him as the "creator".
thus, they believe that god is responsible for all forms of life here on the earth and in heaven.
the thought of even one living thing as being the creation of any person other than god himself would no doubt be a completely foreign thought to the average bible-believer.

What bothers me is why the animals have defenses against predators? Schizm mentioned a few. I mean, if we leave alone the idea of "predators" - lions with big teeth to eat hay (ROTFLMAO) ... and look at animals with DEFENSE mechanisms, why? If all of them were to eat vegetation?
Yah, when you look at the mosquito, did it drink the fluid out of flower stems until AFTER the flood, when it was allowed by God to suck blood??????
The witnesses seem to give Satan as much, if not more, power than Jehovah - I wonder how many of Satan's creations are walking around?

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. Even when we're "preprared" for a death, it still doesn't lessen the pain you must be feeling.
I'm glad you have no horror stories about the funeral. That is not the day to have any.
My condolences

They came by today
by czarofmischief inso my wife is standing at the door, waiting for me to finish my morning ablutions so that we can go out, and she asks me to go to the door.
i met a very friendly couple who wanted to talk to me about jehovah.
i informed them that i was raised as a jehovah's witness and that i had been disfellowshipped for about (and i had to think about this) five years now.. and the dude was offended by my existence.

this elder suddenly realized that he had NO control over me.
I doubt you were reading anything into it. It is a very real look. It sends them into confusion, and they don't know what to say to regain "control".
I've seen this look twice... in the last year before I was df'd. By this time I was mentally "out", but in for family. One time, after a long stretch of missing meetings, I was at home, doing spring cleaning. I had missed the Sunday meeting, and the CO came by to "encourage me". I came to the door, jeans & t-shirt, hair in a pony... my hallway messy with boxes and bucket & mop. He said he missed me at today's meeting, and wanted to know why I wasn't there (I didn't look sick or depressed ), so I said I was Spring Cleaning. He got the "elder look" and sternly asked me if I thought that was more important than the meeting (trying to make me feel bad or guilty - hey, isn't meeting attendance voluntary???)... anyhoo, I looked him straight in the eye, with a big smile and said "Yes. I needed to get my house cleaned".
He got that look... that "I don't have control" look. He didn't say anything... he just stood there. I asked if there was anything else, and he said "no, just wanted to make sure I was OK". I said I was fine, thanks for popping by, and closed the door. It felt great.
The other time was even more funny... happened at the Kingdom Hall infront of everyone.... but I'll save it for another time.
Awesome the way you handled this though! Feels great to be "there" - to be free in every sense of the word from that cult.

This is one reason I LOVE being "out"
How many of us really ever discussed this type of issue in this context. When I'd sit in a Kingdom Hall and hear about a country trying to place restrictions, or bans on us, I'd shake my head with the "persecution" we were facing. How unloving the "world" was to not accept true worship and allow our freedoms!
Then, I'd listen to how soon we'd be united, all in pure worship, under Christ's rulership. All false religion destroyed.
No tolerance there for "outside" thought or freedom.
Now, how do I feel about it? Garybuss expressed how I feel. I believe having the title "religion" allows to many liberties that are not tolerated in secular society. Under the guise of religion, emotional pain can be inflicted, abuse can be hidden and tolerated, financial responsibilites to society are ducked, etc.
Believe what you want, but do "no harm".

Are you an atheist? ...
by Nicolas inpersonally, i consider myself as a "soft-atheist".
i don't believe in god but i keep an open mind and if someone can come with a real proof of god's existence, i'll take it.
for now, i consider that believing in god, is just as silly as believing in santa claus.

You're making a jump from God to morals. I'm assuming with your statement that without God, there would be no moral, no morals = no laws, and therfore a breakdown in gov't. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
Your first assumption is "no god=no morals". Guess what? The two are not related dependant upon each other.
The "bible God" lacks morals. If we relied on him for our sense of "morality", we'd happily condone genocide, slavery, killing of children/women/elderly/animals in war, blood sacrifice, etc.
Please don't tell me you think agnostics and athiestics lack morals/ethics.

Should Anything Exist????Says Who???Should Nothing Exist?? Says Who?

Terry,
You actually bring up a good point. "I think, therefore I am". One simplicistic concept that we've all heard. YET,
those with multiple personalities ... do each of these personalities exist seperately? I have witnesses a person with this disorder (for lack of a better word) and there is no question, when one personality changes to another.

Things exist. Something wanted us to exist. Otherwise we wouldn't exist.
If there had been no turbulance, it would have stayed isotropic (the same in every direction), and there would be nothing. This doesn't work because if there was nothing, there could not be something to disturb nothing. Some one or something disturbed/messed w the primordial filament,
Okay, if there was nothing, then there could not be something to mess with the primordial filament. Nothing can come out of nothing. 0 times 0 is still 0.For me, this is the essence of the initial question. The assumption made is "nothing" existed first. Who says? Why couldn't there always have been something, and nothing NEVER existed. Based on the "something came from nothing" theory, the "something" is God. And to explain how this God (something) came from nothing, isn't explained. Its just stated that he "always" was. There was no beginning to this "something". So with either theory... nothing never really ever existed.
