wt is retiring district overseers, has sent older jws serving at bethel packing despite years of faithful service, and as of june 1, 2014, has announced that any elder that has reached 80 years of age is no longer valued or wanted as a cobe.
in wt land it would appear that older people have little or no value, and wt sees no reason to use them in any meaningful capacity.
i wonder how this makes older ones feel after devoting their lives to wt's interests while shelving their own hopes and dreams?.
Talking to 2 diiferent "Brothers" about this (Elders in their late 40's), they like this new arrangement and can't wait to dicuss it at the next Elder's meeting.
Of course they like it. A WT-mandated forced 'retirement' policy for the current head honcho. It makes climbing the corporate ladder to the next rung so much easier for an ambitious, forty-something elder who's got his eye on being the next COBE.
Granted, some of these 70+ COBEs may no longer qualify to serve in much of any capacity, but an across-the-board rule ousting a person based solely on age, without consideration of his abilities and performance now, is rather silly.
I like it though....it'll just create yet another group that WT has disenfranchised and embittered by being marginalized to the "what have you done for us today?" category, along with all the other faithful JWs WT has managed to piss off lately (Bethelites; District Overseers, etc.).

The end result was that an estimated three-fourths of the religion seperated over those decades. However, what remained was a core group fiercely loyal to the Watchtower Society that were rebranded as Jehovah's Witnesses.

In true WT fashion, these dissenters have been labelled/judged as "unfaithful", "disloyal to god", not accepting of 'god's direction' of appointed men. The truth is, the 75% who left the WT and Rutherfraud saw them for what they are- a self-serving pseudo Christian religion that promoted false prophecies and unscriptural teachings. In reality, the "apostates"/unfaithful to god are the ones who stayed with Rutherfraud/WT. It was the faithful who left.

One small correction: Rutherfraud didn't "assume" the presidency of WT, as if he was the elected leader by legal procedure. No, he hijacked the presidency through manipulation, strong-arm bullying and "mischief by law". The wishes of CT Russell for WT after his death never included anything close to Rutherfraud being the president. In fact, Rutherfraud was on a secondary list as an alternate board member- that's all.

Jeez, I'd think that if you really believed you were the only "true" religion on the planet and had a message of "everlasting life™" that would save a person, your goal would be to actually make a meaningful difference in someone's life. But apparently quantity is the focus of your day, not substance.

dozy: They are just cheap JWs ( and I speak as a former cheap JW ) who take sandwiches for lunch and drink tap water with a cheap meal in the evening before having an early night. Other than the deals done with hotels very little spending will trickle down to the real economy

In my area we used to have conventions right in the city. But, we've had three venues tell WT they are no longer interested in having JW conventions in the city. We drive 2.5 hours away to a city that is apparently so desperate that even miniscule/ -0- tax revenue is acceptable. I wonder if the "thanks, but no thanks" treatment of JWs was for the very reason you stated??

Gypsy Sam: I just watched the mormon video. Wow. I guess I'm amazed at how similar the terminology and delusion is, but at least love was mentioned.

Where in the WT video is love, Bible education, stronger family life, etc. mentioned? Not once! No focus on things that traditionally have been the focal point of WT rhetoric. Now it's all about having "the time of your life" doing things that aren't remotely "spiritual" (at least according to the 'old' WT).
I think the fact that love and other important things are not even mentioned in the video is because these things are rarely, if ever, on the minds of WT executives.

We have received inquiries on the use of an electronic tablet, such as an iPad, when conducting the Watchtower Study or for viewing notes when giving a public talk. Herein we wish to provide some guidelines concerning this matter.
There is no objection to the use of an electronic tablet by an attendee in the audience as a means of following along ....an electronic tablet or other similar device should not be used on the platform...
.....it is felt that using an electronic tablet from the platform could prompt others to feel that they too should invest in such a device. Additionally, since many brothers cannot afford such a device, using one prominently from the stage could, in effect, create “class distinctions” or appear to be a “showy display of one’s means of life.”—Jas. 2:4; 1John 2:16.
