When Mt. St. Helens exploded in 1980...The elders called Bethell to see if it was OK to cancel meetings and field service.
Future WT Study article:
"Imitate Noah- He Preached and Built an Ark Despite Volcanic Eruptions and 20 Feet of Snow"
Subheading one: "Pussy? Or Preacher?"
---
As Ray Franz mentioned in CoC, it's a pathetic situation when grown men have to call Brooklyn to get permission on decisions they should be able to make themselves based on reason and common sense.

WT Study Article Nov. 23, 2014--Adam understood "day" to be 24 hours
by Cadellin ininteresting admission in today's wt: adam may have understood "day" (as in "in the day you eat from it, you will positively die") to be a literal 24-hour period.
i don't think the wt has ever said this before; the usual emphasis is that jah meant it as a figurative day, a day from his standpoint which is 1,000 years (and the article does state that, later).. however, if adam understood god's warning to be carried out in a 24 hour period, and god did nothing to alleviate that, then who did the lying?
actually, regardless of adam's understanding, the question still stands but moving toward an admission of the use of day in that context to be 24-hours only makes the question even more valid.

A few days could have elapsed between her creation and them sinning
Then that makes the idea of it being a fair test even more laughable.
Of course, all this is moot for the simple fact that the Genesis account never says it was Satan who deceived Eve. It merely says "a serpent". That idea was inserted later by Christians with too much time on their hands and a wild imagination.
I'm not denying that Satan's words could be taken as implying that God is a liar...But JWs are quick to accuse him of lying due to what he implied
It is interesting that JWs will not apply this same standard to their beloved WT/GB as well. Think 1975, generation, etc...a whole lot of "implied"* comments about those subjects from WT.
.
* implied = direct, dogmatic statements with god as their source later claimed to be only implications.

"We cant go door to door in 7 feet of snow!"
I wonder if Jehovah will be able to overlook this? Or, will he just consider them as 'unfaithful', worthy of death at the Big A for not risking their live to go D to D?
Where would JWs be without their meaningless works?

Audience Contact - Use of notes
by mikeypants inwell, no audience contact but i am talking about use of notes.
i always wondered about note taking at conventions and assemblies.
why does this happen?

Sometimes I couldn't tell what the main point was or how it tied to the scripture.
This sums up WT theology in general...

Strain out the gnat: Tight pants, yoga pants, spanx, colorful socks
Gulp down the camel: Hiding pedophiles in the congregation
If WT would just put on tight pants like ToMo in Watchtower-Free's pic, they wouldn't be able to hide their pedophiles...

It always give me a good LMAO moment when WT speculates/wishes for/hopes/fantasizes about what they think some Bible character must have been thinking. Pure nonsense.
I don't believe the Genesis account either (actually, none of the Bible), but taken as-is, you are right: Satan was the only one who told the truth.
God mercifully allowed Adam to Eve to live longer in order to have children
More like, god allowed A&E to have children for no other purpose than prolonging the suffering of humanity. God would be so bored not having anyone to persecute.

We're not dealing with sincere anointed who genuinely believe their teachings but scam artists
by truthseeker inlooking at all the doctrinal teachings over the last five years, it's almost impossible for any person of conscience who originated such doctrine to do a complete u-turn and change it when the passage of time has proved beyond doubt that doctrine is no longer credible.. i say this with reference to the generation of 1914. they were so sure.
it was part of the awake!
masthead for decades that those who saw the events of 1914 would also see the great tribulation.. .

it's almost impossible for any person of conscience who originated such doctrine to do a complete u-turn and change it and still believe it when the passage of time has proved beyond doubt that doctrine is no longer credible.
"Often the less there is to justify a traditional custom, the harder it is to get rid of it." -- Mark Twain
Apog: I've generally leaned toward the school of thought that the leadership is sincere...Instead of admitting "We don't know how long a generation is", they've come up with a new definition of "generation" which strains logic in order to explain why we're all still here in 2014.
Interestingly, though, they did admit indirectly in 1995 that they didn't know the length of the "generation" when they defined it as basically an "era... But they were almost humble there!... on this one issue... for a period of 15 years.
Not only a major contradiction, but being "almost humble" is like being "almost pregnant". Either you are or you aren't.
If the definition of "generation" became a fuzzy concept WT sure wasn't letting on (despite the alleged 'sincere' re-thinking of the matter). WT has continued its relentless mantra that Armageddon is coming anyday now. In fact, at the last DC I attended (2011) the Bethel speaker said, "We are in the last days of the last days. The Governing Body really believes that."
Hardly a fallback position to "we don't know", and 'we'll just leave this one alone for now'.

"Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality. When we recognize our place in an immensity of light ‐ years and in the passage of ages, when we grasp the intricacy, beauty, and subtlety of life, then that soaring feeling, that sense of elation and humility combined, is surely spiritual. So are our emotions in the presence of great art or music or literature, or acts of exemplary selfless courage such as those of Mohandas Gandhi or Martin Luther King, Jr. The notion that science and spirituality are somehow mutually exclusive does a disservice to both." -- Carl Sagan
