@ Outlaw: LOL !
How'd you get your parents to pose for that last pic? Love it...
wt is retiring district overseers, has sent older jws serving at bethel packing despite years of faithful service, and as of june 1, 2014, has announced that any elder that has reached 80 years of age is no longer valued or wanted as a cobe.
in wt land it would appear that older people have little or no value, and wt sees no reason to use them in any meaningful capacity.
i wonder how this makes older ones feel after devoting their lives to wt's interests while shelving their own hopes and dreams?.

As a pre-emptive rebuttal to any apologist who may say we're reading too much into the WT's elder training videos, and the details we've pointed out are benign, here's WT's bold claim:
"...In summary, the Writing Department insists on using only material that is accurate and truthful, even regarding seemingly insignificant details. As a result, “the faithful and discreet slave” can consistently supply spiritual food that brings honor to “the God of truth,” Jehovah."
2011 Yearbook, page 9.

w87 3/1 15 'Upon the Watchtower I Am Standing'
"Each article in both The Watchtower and Awake! and every page, including the artwork, is scrutinized by selected members of the Governing Body before it is printed. Furthermore, those who assist in writing articles for The Watchtower are Christian elders who appreciate the seriousness of their assignment. (Compare 2 Chronicles 19:7.) They spend many hours in researching the Bible and other reference material to make sure that what is written is the truth and that it faithfully follows the Scriptures. (Ecclesiastes 12:9, 10; 2 Timothy 1:13) It is not unusual for one magazine article—that you may read in 15 minutes—to take from two weeks to over a month to prepare".
.
This was printed prior to WT's extensive use of video and, obviously, the Internet or JW.org. But, they've printed nothing since that time which contradicts the above quotes, so we can reasonably conclude that everything in the videos, even "seemingly insignificant details", are there intentionally.

.. if armageddon is "imminent", why is wt focused on sight-seeing, entertainment, travel, etc.
instead of preaching and saving people??.
Thanks, Ptreist ! That's the one.

might be a dumb question but who cares.... is there only one gb or is there one in each country?.
There's only one.....and that's too many.

WT is so focused on how great they think they are, I'm sure it catches them off guard when their propoganda videos do not result in everyone seeing them to immediately want to become a JW.
Magnum, I have little doubt WT patrols JWN and similar sites to get an idea of how their latest nonsense is being interpretted. It probably came as a real shock to them that this Atlanta video wasn't winning any accolades and people with at least two functioning brain cells can easily see the video for what it is.
Why didn't they just ask us first before making the video? LOL. We could've told them it was crap. There goes a few hundred thousand $$ down the tubes on their slick production.
Back to the drawing board for WT !

Does everyone remember the two elder training videos that were leaked several weeks ago? The one where "Robbie" committed fornication and was now in front of a JC? Another was exclusively for elders at the training school last year.
In the 'don't do it this way' portion of how to handle JCs, the older elder on the committee who was more compassionate, lenient and wanting to hold off on immediately DF the accused was portrayed as not following procedure. He was in the wrong. He was overruled by the younger elders who were more judgmental and harsh and voted to DF without much discussion.
I wonder if WT, by the deliberate way they are portraying these older men, see them as a liability? I think a general statement about people, as they get older and have seen a few things is, they tend to become less judgmental and stuck on what's supposed to be "right" and "wrong" in life. They've had several decades of their own screw-ups to embrace, and realize life isn't all roses. An elder who's 60,70 or 80 years old has seen some stuff, and realizes that it's human to mess up...why be so hard on a person?
Sadly, this mentality has no place in the heavily corporate, "take no prisoners" approach that WT is increasingly adopting. WT needs younger elders who follow corporate procedures to the letter and enforce policies with an iron fist. Compassion is not an alternative. This new crop of elders will only know the 'new' WT, and if the older men who know how it used to be are still around in a position where they can exert some influence the other direction, it undermines WT's methodology.

Magnum: And think again about those houses they showed. Did they really give a lot of thought to the kinds of houses they'd show? They must have. Why would they show those expensive houses?
Your observations are spot-on. Historically, WT has always portrayed a nice home and fine material possessions in a negative light. Any JW who desires these things, and, worse, actually owns them, has been marginalized as "spiritually weak", "materialistic", and "not putting Kingdom interests first".
For WT to produce a video that not only strongly emphasizes the entertainment aspects of an International Convention (haven't JWs always been told conventions are for spiritual interests, NOT entertainment?), and showcasing luxury homes, is highly hypocritical. Of course WT knew what it was doing! What do you think the reaction of would-be attendees needing a home to stay in would be if WT showed an average home in an average neighborhood, you know, the kind of home 99% of JWs live in? WT wants JWs to appear to be financially successful, progressive, modern- you know, "worldly"- just like every other religion. WT and JWs wouldn't attract any interest for these conventions if WT showed the broken down cars and average/below average homes most JWs live in.
The entire video is corporate spin, nothing more, and is diametrically opposed to what WT has traditionally claimed is of the most importance in life and especially "Kingdom interests".

To LisaBObeesa: no the video hasn't been removed. Click on the link on page one of my first post, highlight it, and copy it to your Internet search bar. It'll take you to the Youtube video.

In light of Watchtower's recent corporate policy changes in regard to older JWs, especially men, I thought it would be interesting to see what people have accomplished in life in their later years. Here are a few examples I've found:
achievements at an advanced age
Many well-known people made major accomplishments in old age. The following is a list of such examples.
1. At 100, Grandma Moses was painting.
2. At 94, Bertrand Russell was active in international peace drives.
3. At 93, George Bernard Shaw wrote the play Farfetched Fables.
4. At 91, Eamon de Valera served as president of Ireland.
5. At 91, Adolph Zukon was chairman of Paramount Pictures.
6. At 90, Pablo Picasso was producing drawings and engravings.
7. At 89, Mary Baker Eddy was directing the Christian Science Church.

my dad told me this story long time ago.
there was an long time elder that is never married.
he got caught going to brothel one day after a brother followed him there.
steve 2: You badly need spellcheck. What's wrong with going to Bethel? And why was he followed there? I thought it was every decent Witnesses desire to do so. Have I missed something?
.
I agree, I see no problem here. If a brother wants to go to Bethel for BJ, what's the issue? BJ means "Big Jehovah", right?
