dozy: They are just cheap JWs ( and I speak as a former cheap JW ) who take sandwiches for lunch and drink tap water with a cheap meal in the evening before having an early night. Other than the deals done with hotels very little spending will trickle down to the real economy

In my area we used to have conventions right in the city. But, we've had three venues tell WT they are no longer interested in having JW conventions in the city. We drive 2.5 hours away to a city that is apparently so desperate that even miniscule/ -0- tax revenue is acceptable. I wonder if the "thanks, but no thanks" treatment of JWs was for the very reason you stated??

Gypsy Sam: I just watched the mormon video. Wow. I guess I'm amazed at how similar the terminology and delusion is, but at least love was mentioned.

Where in the WT video is love, Bible education, stronger family life, etc. mentioned? Not once! No focus on things that traditionally have been the focal point of WT rhetoric. Now it's all about having "the time of your life" doing things that aren't remotely "spiritual" (at least according to the 'old' WT).

I think the fact that love and other important things are not even mentioned in the video is because these things are rarely, if ever, on the minds of WT executives.

Dear Brothers:

We have received inquiries on the use of an electronic tablet, such as an iPad, when conducting the Watchtower Study or for viewing notes when giving a public talk. Herein we wish to provide some guidelines concerning this matter.

There is no objection to the use of an electronic tablet by an attendee in the audience as a means of following along ....an electronic tablet or other similar device should not be used on the platform...

.....it is felt that using an electronic tablet from the platform could prompt others to feel that they too should invest in such a device. Additionally, since many brothers cannot afford such a device, using one prominently from the stage could, in effect, create “class distinctions” or appear to be a “showy display of one’s means of life.”—Jas. 2:4; 1John 2:16.

the governing body claims they've received "new light" from jehovah every time they change their doctrine.

so where did the "old light" come from that's being replaced?

if the old light is incorrect, could it have come from god?

Heads Up: If you are an older JW, WT has no further use for you!

wt is retiring district overseers, has sent older jws serving at bethel packing despite years of faithful service, and as of june 1, 2014, has announced that any elder that has reached 80 years of age is no longer valued or wanted as a cobe.

in wt land it would appear that older people have little or no value, and wt sees no reason to use them in any meaningful capacity.

i wonder how this makes older ones feel after devoting their lives to wt's interests while shelving their own hopes and dreams?.

According to WT, there isn't enough time left for a "major cleansing". Armageddon is imminent, remember??

Besides, by your reasoning then, John, this puts every JW in a conundrum, doesn't it? IF the WT is "God's Organization", and a JW has no choice but to obey the WT unquestioningly to stay in Jehovah's™ good graces, then, by following the rules, every JW must be at odds with Jehovah™ in order to obediently please Jehovah™.

If you watch what the Mormon church does, you'll notice that WT soon follows suit. "Family Worship Night"? A Mormon idea. WT simply copied it.

Slick, high-quality videos promoting the religion? Mormons did it first ( I wouldn't doubt that WT hired the same production company for its videos that does the Mormon videos- they have the same look and feel to them, i.e. cultishly creepy).

Mormon slogan: "And, I'm a Mormon".

WT slogan: "Listen, obey and be blessed."

The LDS Church makes it appear as if it's one big party everyday if you're a Mormon; WT, with this Atlanta video, is doing the same thing: dances, concerts, sight-seeing tours, etc. What was the repeated phrase in the video? "Get ready for the time of your life!"
