BU2B: If the bible was the word of god, why would it be written in such a confusing manner and such a way that it is open to so many different interpretations? Can this god then blame people if they havent got it quite right?
.
Very simply, that is the core of the matter. If humans are still scratching their heads two or three millenia after these things were written, obviously the fault is with the author(s).
If god is responsible, then it is an epic fail; if human failure, then it's not worth devoting any time to figuring it out, as it is nothing more than contrived nonsense.
Someone on another thread argued that the problem is, not the Bible, but that modern Christians do not understand the symbolism, hyperbole and allegories that first century writers used, so the message is ambiguous at best. My contention is: why would a god who allegedly provided written instructions on which a person's eternal life hinges on understanding fully, use allegories, symbolism and hyperbole in the first place? It's a dumbass approach no matter how you look at it.
