I lead a double life before I left so I already had friends. I felt nothing but relief and adjusted to life just fine. I wanted absolutely nothing to do with the borg after I left. I graduated HS and went away to college. I did not deal with my jw issues which in hindsight was a mistake. I just pushed them aside and moved on with my life. A couple of years ago my brother got in some major shit and his counselor wanted to speak to the whole family for an intervention. A lot of his issues could be traced back to his childhood and being raised in the borg. My brothers crisis (drugs) was a real eye opener for me but I was not quite ready to deal with my past. It took something else that happened a year ago. I wanted to be around people I could relate to so here I am. Reading xjw message boards has been very theraputic.

I was told that the Society was only distributing one copy per household at the assemblies.
My mom was able to get 4 copies and she lives by herself. Sadly mom does not share new releases with her unbelieving children. We're only worthy of the WT and Awake.

Can a Dub wife have holidays if her non-Dub hubby "instructs" her to?
by closer2fine inwasn't there an article stating that the wife of an unbeliever couldn't get in trouble with the congregation if she participated in holidays at the instruction of her husband?
(ie purchasing presents that he told her to) wasn't this because of headship rules?
where does that leave the unbelieving children?

A lady in my old congregation would cook X-mas dinner. It was understood that as long as she did not participate (ie eat the meal) in the activities it was okay. She would go in the other room. The husband told her their kids will celebrate holidays and would not be forced to go to meetings or in FS.

Shunning your Children
by missylissy ini dont know if im putting this in the rite place.... .
when a young jw teen ( 13-16) disassociates themselves, or is disfellowshipped, will the parents kick them out of the house?
or are they required to let them stay?

I would not DA at such a young age. I would wait till I was 18, graduated HS and had a job where I could support myself. I don't think Gadget's family is the norm so I would not risk it until you can be independent.

Is Having Kids Worth It?
by Prisca inok, i'm a single female in her early 30s looking for someone to settle down with.
i'd like to have kids, but the trouble with dating guys who are over 30 is that by now most have a kid and/or have decided they don't want any/more.
so i am getting faced with the dilemma of maybe finding that someone special, but he may not want to have kids.

I think not. Im past such things. Im too experienced. Im not that desperate. Thats my position. Love it or leave it
Do I look stupid to you?? I think not. Get out and get a job. After all, we live in an equal society now. Everyone has the "right' to support themselves. lol.
You crack me up. You sound EXACTLY like my dad. He will send any woman packing that even hints at wanting to be supported.

Good for you! I took steps last year to make sure my mom could not make any medical decisions for me. I had her listed as an emergency contact for like ever. If my dad is unavailable then my DF'd sister will make any necessary decisions. I know that will go over real well with mommy when/if she finds out.

Why don't they preach on TV or Radio?
by JH inwe all know that witnesses go door to door in order to give bible studies.
but since their message is so important to them, why don't they use all the available methods in order to reach out to the most people possible.
we live in an era of telecommunications, wireless phones, internet, and so on.

I know they were making commercials for a while. They would play them very late at night. I don't have the link but I think you can see them on jwmedia.

Eight Days Vacation per Year
by Satanus inhow much vacation do you get per yr?
according to this article, hard working americans get 8 days off.vacations are being downsized by the same forces that brought us soaring work weeks: labor cutbacks, a sense of false urgency created by tech tools, fear and, most of all, guilt.
managers use the climate of job insecurity to stall, cancel and abbreviate paid leave, while piling on guilt.
