When my grandmother was 88 I would ask her if she wanted to live to be 100. She said NO! Why would she want to live that long?
I concur. Why? I mean, life is grand, but after a long life, enough is enough.
what will living be like after 5 billion years?.
doug.

i think there are many that still want to believe in a god but just aren't sure.. personally, do you believe in a god?.
are you a "spiritual" person?.
Adding to the long list, like anyone reads this far.
I pretty much believe what I have seen and experienced. The rest is other humans imaginations.

15) in speaking of the marking work, page 111 of vindication said that this work of giving the testimony is not for the purpose of converting the people of the world and bringing them into some organization, but it is to make known the fact that those who desire to flee from the wicked organization of christendom may do so and declare themselves on the lords side, and thus be in line to be brought through the time of trouble, when the slaughtering begins.
Data D. I am pretty sure that I have this right, but if not, someone with WT quotes can correct me.
The 1931 convention was when the name Jehovah's wtinesses was adopted. This was all Rutherford. He held this and made the announcement, as he answered to no one.
The 1935 convention was when the announcement was made that the great crowd was at the convention. At first they didn't know what was meant. Upon realizing that Rutherford meant the non-remnant, the non-Jehovah's witnesses, they all burst into applause.
i suppose that it is a long shot, but i was curious if anyone knew the answer to this question.
i had heard that morris became a jw in the 1970s and that he also had children who were raised witnesses.
it seems odd that someone that new "in the truth" would partake, and with children mind you.
Humans are so suggestible. If the Truth book and the Live Forever book had presented the heavenly hope, we all would have believed we were going to heaven. But as it was, all we heard was a wonderful paradise earth and how we don't want to miss out on it.
this is and odd topic but there is a part of me that really misses feeling that i knew more about the world than 99.9% of the people.
i spent so many years in school being the odd person because of religion.
i embraced it to some extent.
I don't miss it at all. I don't miss thinking that I knew. Now I am certain that I do not know and I am more comfortable with that. I sort of never believed that I personally had it over anyone else.
dear forumites, i need your advise please.. i would like to write a letter to the world headquarters of the jehovah's witnesses regarding a subject that i've published an article recently.
i would like to draw the attention of the gb to said article, which i will send in print form (therefore, no attention would be drawn to the website where it was published).. naturally, because i am a jehovah's witness in good standing in the congregation and what i'll be discussing in my letter will be a dissenting view from the official doctrine/practice, i want to protect my identity and i don't want to be harassed by elders or subjected to any sort of judicial investigation.
nevertheless, i would be very interested in reading their response (if any) to my letter.. how can i do that?
Same for me rebel8. About 2 years ago I sent a letter to WT headquarters about some utter nonsense by well placed brothers that was making the WT Society look bad. I really was trying to get them to see how some brother's actions make them look ridiculous.
Within 2 weeks an elder came to my house by himself that I have known all my life. When he saw it was me, he invited me to the memorial. No way that was a coincidence.
When I was an elder, we always got letters from the Society that publishers had written. The Wt simply stuffed them in a larger envelope and asked us to handle it appropriately.
so many of you here have suffered from the borg and it's twisted and ever-changing teachings.. some of us turned atheists, others hold on to jehovah god and his son jesus.. both have and still suffer from all the lies, the mind-control, the loss of individuality to conform to the cult.. may i offer a personal observation, for which i could be totally wrong, and would welcome rectification if i am.. as some of you know, i became an atheist long before i questioned the borg... which at first, i still considered a loving "mother".. my aha!
moment was thru my ardent personal study; and the issue i battled with was nothing else than god's character.. now, before i continue, please be aware that i have hated god until i was convinced he was a figment of the imagination and folklore in human literature.
many of you here may cringe at these words, and i do apologize if i seem to be insulting as i would hate to be guilty of that.
Same here about the Bible god, whatever name you chose to give him.
This god created sea life that [almost] all eats other sea life while it is still alive. Watch any nature show to see how whales and sharks eat live seals that are mortified trying to get away. Who would create such a feeding system?
You already know about the food chain on the African plains. Same thing. Animals innards eaten out of them while they are still alive. The Bible says that god saw all this and it was good.
to be honest i figured until i received some pleasure, enjoyment.
in waking people up on their day off, there was no way i was going.
to pressure anyone else to do the same.
I had to encourage door knocking, but I learned to temper it it with some common sense. I would say...if the house is quiet and the newspaper is in the driveway, what do you think?
During my later field service years, I thought Saturday morning service was the most ridiculous, annoying to people, waste of time to be out. Later years = 1980 and forward.
was it real fruit they ate or does the fruit represent something else?.
e..
Adding to the mystery of whether the fruit was literal, I present Genesis 3:22.
In this verse we find that God has almost been outdone and is on edge about what Adam and Eve might do next. They have already become like God [these are God's words] just as the serpent had said. So God is concerned that they might next eat from the other tree, the tree of life, and live forever. God cannot have this to be the outcome. So they are banished from the garden.
Yeah, that sounds like a real event.
so another wonderful tract campaign will take place in november.
cities and towns will be inundated by a cheap bifold about the dead .. but the dubs are warned--if there is a "no trespassing sign" on a property enter at your own risk.
so says the letter from mother/gb that was read this week at the hall.
The WT is getting better lawyers all the time. Yep, back in the day we were to ignore any sign and any neighborhood petition against us coming into a neighborhood. Now it's roll out the literature carts in a public place.
