my grandfather only had a third grade education and knew little about the bible when jws called on him.

he was a different breed of jw than those of modern times.

he truly cared about people and would give them the shirt off his back.

Thank you for sharing your personal story.

What you wrote is disturbing on many levels, but primarily because it's true. It really happened. No, obviously "Armageddon" never came, but it did in the mind of your grandfather and he was terrified. To him, it was real.

I have come to really, really hate this religion. It doesn't make people happy, it doesn't make them better people, it doesn't improve relationships, it doesn't even help us get a better grip on the cold harsh reality of what it really means to be human. No, it substitutes the harsh reality of life in this universe with a perverse terror far more frightening that the life we really live.

Let's review: It's a cult!

syneidos posted some interesting information on reddit regarding jw.org's latest project for the upcomming 2015 memorial campaign.. for next year's 2015 memorial campaign, jw.org is producing an invitational video featuring jesus.

the video is still being filmed at the moment and i was told it was super "confidential.

" my source already saw several scenes from it and said, "it looks and feels like a cinematic movie.

Over the years, the WTBTS has made many announcements and other types of assertions which have tested my faith.

I am happy to say the results are in: I now have complete faith in MY powers of reason and no faith at all in that of the WT leadership!

JV: How could they scripturally sell this line of reasoning?

The same way they "sell" any line of "reasoning" in JW-land: They cite a scripture, say "evidently" and then tell everyone what it means and what to believe.

The Bible is just a prop for JWs. I thought you knew.

i was talking to an uber dub friend last night who lives in the san diego area.

he knew nothing of the $13.5 million dollar law suit.

when i tried to tell him that this is a systemic problem, and that this could perhaps be the tip of the ice burgh.

BTTT / Marked topics

i've noticed a lot of topics being bumped recently with "bttt" (back to the top) comments or "marked" as the reply.. i'd appreciate if people think twice before doing this.

simply forcing topics back to the top even though there is nothing to say on them is not helpful and negates the usefulness of having an active topics view.

if everyone did this with every topic they want to push then things would quickly deteriorate so i don't believe some should be allowed to do it for whatever reason.. by all means post new and relevent comments to a topic but short esp single-word non-comments that are simply used to push certain topics back to the top are likely to be interpreted as spam and removed or blocked if necessary.. .

AnnOMaly: As for 'BTTT' or 'Bump,' perhaps a brief comment could be added as to why a thread is being bumped - especially long dead and buried ones?

That makes sense. Often there is a good reason to bump an old thread. But I think that's Simon's point: if who ever bumps it explains WHY they think the tread should be resurrected, then others can read that and respond.
