You need to tell this individual in no uncertain terms that he is NOT to have any further communication with your son. None. Do this immediately.

Inform your wife of your decision as head of the house.

If any of them even hesitate for an instant to respect your clearly stated direction on this matter, remind them that you are the God appointed head of the house and if any of them disobey you, disrespect you and do anything to circumvent your stated directions the consequences will be immediate and severe.

Say this calmly and firmly. Do not accept any response other than, "Yes, I understand."

Just watched it. Very powerful stuff.

I do wish they would not have used Jason Beghe or at least gotten him to speak without dropping the "F-Bomb" every time he opened his fucking mouth. It didn't help the cause.

Although Scientologists are more kooky than JWs, it's really only a matter of degree.

I'm sure JWs would laugh that members of Scientology's SeaOrg sign a billion year contract, but the truth is: JWs agree to a verbal one that is supposed to last forever!

Last time I checked, forever is longer than a billion year. A lot longer. So who's more crazy?

They're all crazy.

The verbal and psychological abuse, the shunning and subsequent destruction of families in both groups are all very similar.

There were a couple of quotes that really resonated with me:

Scientologists have a "crushing certainty [of belief] that eliminates doubt"
Everything that is good [in your life] is because of Scientology. Everything that is bad is your fault

Substitute Jehovah's Witness for Scientology and both of those statements completely apply to JWs!

Let's review: They're both cults!

March Broadcast- Jehovah is speeding up the work

i watched some of the segments on the jw broadcast.

in the video they showed how they managed their inventory orders for the congregations.

at the conclusion it was stated by the narrator how god is speeding up the work.. the problem is the system they implemented has been used for over two decades in logistics.

If Jehovah's been "speeding up the work" for many decades, then why is the organization still way behind the rest of the industrialized world?

Apparently Satan's system is a hot rod compared to Jah's pedestrian chariot.

It's just stupid. The people running this organization are only good at one thing, ripping off gullible people that mistakenly think they're serving god.

Let's review: It's a cult!

Frustrating conversation with relative

back storymy cousin, who i was pretty close to growing up, was dfd several years ago while i was still drinking the kool-aid.

i contacted her shortly after i woke up and left the borg.

we have been having great non-religious conversations on and off for a while.

College Quote - Help Needed

i don't post on here for often, but i read posts almost daily and i love our little community of ex-jw's.

a little bit of a background i was raised in as jw but was never baptized but was a publisher and believe it wholehearedly.

my father was very strict when it came to the religion and although i really quit going in my early 20s (which broke his heart) it held a power over me until i was close the to 30. at 30 i decided to enroll in community college while working full time and got my aa last year.

That being said: No, I do not think it's a good idea to quote the WT on your personal statement.

FYI: I'm a high school teacher in the United States and have written MANY letters of recommendation for my students. Several have gotten into very prestigious universities.

Do NOT go into your JW past. Don't do it.

If you really want to tell your story, do so with out mentioning the specifics. You could say something to the affect that you were raised in a community/culture that does not value higher education; yet in spite of that ... [your details here].

i'm new to this forum.. i was raised in " the truth" from age six and now i am in my mid 60's.

my wife was born in " the truth" and is very strong in the religion.

i have had many experiences during my lifetime with the other members of several congregations.
