Moomanchu, I too am sorry for your loss!
This world is filled with too many instances of lives destroyed by this destructive cult.
thw wts likes to play games with their statistics.
one interesting but truly tragic is the number of jwhovah's witnesses who commit suicie.. now i suspect that if a person commits suicide shortly before or after they are disfellowshipped then the elders would say that person wasn't a witness or that they had done something so terrible that they were too guilty to admit it and by their action of committing suicide they pretty much declared they were no longer a jw.. yup fancy talk to make sure any crap didn't fall on them.. so my question.. do you know of cases like this?
if so then can you answer a few more questions.. had this person been dfed or in real danger of being dfed or whatever the equivalent is if they were never baptized?.

basically they admit to teaching the rapture (for the anointed remnant), just don't call it that!.
Blondie: Oubliette, the WTS teaches that they have to die physically first and be resurrected as a spirit creature
I don't agree with this. The WT is deliberately and noticeably evasive on exactly how this happens, which is not surprising because frankly it's a bunch of "theological" mumbo-jumbo.
The current article says:
So those who will be taken to heaven will first need to be “changed, in a moment, in the blink of an eye, during the last trumpet.” ... Therefore, while we do not use the term “rapture” here because of its wrong connotation, the remaining faithful anointed will be gathered together in an instant of time.- The Watchtower, July 15, 2015, page 19, paragraph 15 - [Emphasis added]
The footnote for the first sentence quoted above reads: "The fleshly bodies of the anointed alive at that time will not be taken to heaven. (1 Cor. 15:48, 49) Their bodies will likely be disposed of in the same manner that Jesus’ body was removed."
Notice the use of the typical WT weasel word "likely" in reference to what happens to their body.
I'm not trying to debate what these words mean because there's no point in that. I also understand that, even among the churches that openly teach "The Rapture" doctrine, there is not monolithic agreement about what it means or how it will or will not happen.
My point is that not all churches that teach "The Rapture" believe that a physical body will go to heaven. It is intellectually and academically dishonest on the part of the WT writers to state that they do. That being said, there is no significant difference between what the WT currently (as of 7/15/15) teaches on this subject and many other Christian churches.
I firmly believe that the ONLY REASON they explicitly deny that this teaching is the same as what many other churches teach is a lame effort to differentiate themselves. Also, to acknowledge the similarities of belief would be tacit admission that other churches correctly understood this doctrine long before the WT leaders. That would make them look bad and we all know they never will stand for that.
Let's review: It's a cult!
i've been lurking for about 3 months now and thought i'd better finally sign up.
you have all been an immense help to me as i have come to realize that this isn't the truth so i want to say a great big thank you!
what a crazy, emotional ride it is to finally face the truth about the doubts that i have carried for many years.
Ding: The elders I know personally seem to have been selected based on their willingness to swallow whatever the organization tells them and on their ability to forget all about teachings and practices they used to push
I knew many elder like that, but there are also a lot of good men in this organization (women too, but obviously they can't be elders) that mean well.
I also know that once you become an elder you become privy to a lot more of the dirt behind the scenes. If you're the first kind of elder you described, you just "swallow" it all down. But if you're the second kind, you say, "What the fuck! I'm in a cult!"

Vidiot: ... they aren't really as different from other evangelical denominations as they portray themselves to be.
That was exactly the point I was implying with my question! Exactly!!!
fellow witnesses - do you think the kingdom hall belongs to you, just because you all paid for it and personally finance its maintenance?
think again, sheep!
the "shepherds" have announced the fleecing in black & white for you, in case you decide to question them!.
DOC: WP, I think you're trying to be cynical, but I truthfully believe that is the EXACT statement that would be publicly argued to defend sending the money to the WTS.
Jehovah = The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society
i know of the local congregation's issues, per an elder i know quite well.
he has said that nearly everyone in the congregation is suffering emotionally and mentally.
he said he has never seen so many witnesses with so many problems.
If by "happy" you mean: frustrated, sad and depressed, then yes! Extremely happy!

Guys, you're confusing legal ownership of property with personal liability for the actions of individuals using the property.
It looks to me like the WTBTS is setting things up so that there is more of a landlord/renter relationship between each branch and each individual congregation.

Stumpy, thanks for the update with the EXPECTED results in answer to your prayer.
It would seem that, although your SPECIFIC prayer was not answered, your more general, life-affirming one was.
Enjoy your movie!
lack of self-control in eating, drinking, and pursuit of pleasure;.
so, let me get this straight.
enjoying a fancy meal, appreciating the finer qualities of libations and deciding to enjoy life by pursuing pleasures (bike riding, hiking, camping, fishing, reading, movies, golfing, etc.
Blondie: As to searching "spiritually weak" try separating the words spiritually weak, no quotes
I didn't say the expression didn't appear in WT literature, clearly it does.
I said it didn't appear in the Bible, not even the rNWT.

Stumpy,
Welcome!
I just saw your thread; it's early morning here in SoCal.
I'm guessing your prayer has been answered by now (or not).
Can't wait to hear the results.
