Priceless.
Tell him, "But Brother Elderly Elder, don't you know? Book bags are so, ... 20th Century!"
yes friends.....this is the comment said to me by an elder!.
"your bad attitude is evident because you don't bring your meeting bag anymore!".
i calmly replied: "but everything i need is on the tablet now......".

it's to their credit that many modern christians prefer the jesus of the gospels to the god of the old testament.. ot god is an embarrassment.
i am not going to list his multitude of moral crimes here but my personal favourite is his brilliant idea that a girl who is raped must marry her rapist.
it's not his biggest crime but it demonstrates a disregard for human feelings that is beyond the comprehension of every moral person.
Cofty: The savage god who demanded infanticide. The wicked god who endorsed slavery of the worse kind.
You left out his many instances of genocide. ... Oh, I see you got to that in your reply to Faye!
Simon: "He seemed such a nice young man but then we met his family"
That'd be funny if it wasn't so tragically true in this case.

a little about george smoot.
http://bigbangtheory.wikia.com/wiki/george_smoot.
After pondering this TEDTalk a bit longer, here's my take on it, in what I believe are slightly more accurate terms:
Begin with a number of highly-questionable possibilities from the emerging field of astrobiology, all of undefinable certainty. String them together with some wild, sciency sounding speculation and link them with a chain of "what if?" conjectures and "then maybe" assumptions. Add a few pop-culture references (zombies and internet porn) to sound hip while also getting some grins and giggles. Throw in a couple of optical illusions for the "Wow!" factor.
Then attempt to tie it all together--no matter how tenuous or weak the connection--to the general subject of physics as support for your thesis by telling us a few of the things that we do not know or understand about physics or the ultimate nature of reality. Finally, offer that up as "proof" of what you initially asserted while hinting that there's actually much, much more "proof" but you've simply run out of time and have to go now.

It's surprising to me that someone that actually won a Nobel Prize in physics would put together a presentation like this and expect to be take seriously.
It's an intriguing idea, yes it is. Great subject for discussion over a few glasses of your favorite adult beverage; this may, in fact, be a requirement for such discussions. But don't expect me to give it too much credence and start knocking on doors (real or simulated) to preach "the Good News of the Virtual Reality."
It shoulda' been titled: You Might Be in a Simulation, But We Really Don't Know for Sure and Nothing from the Field of Physics Can Disprove It!
If you'll excuse me, I have to go reboot the Universe. I don't like how this one is turning out.

seriously.....even when you were 100% in "the truth", did you really believe in living forever?
?

I did, or at least I wanted to believe!
I still like the idea, just not in any universe with Jehovah in it.

a little about george smoot.

That was interesting, but he didn't really get into the real arguments to prove his thesis. It seemed due to the fact that he ran out of time at the end.
Maybe we're just not supposed to know we're in a simulation!
loyal pooch protected my identity for more than a decade, time for a rest old pal.. yep, that's the real me in my new avatar all stubbly and snoozing in the afternoon sun.

i started this topic 5 years ago letting everyone know i had decide to get my ged and go to college in hopes of getting an education so that i could have a career instead of just a job.
i wanted fulfillment and a future, not just another job that has no really future in it.
Noni, congrats on your accomplishment!
for only the second time in internet history, a video recording of a secret jehovah's witness apostasy trial has been published online on the jwstruggle youtube channel.
follow isaac's story here:.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se9rh6qux0o&feature=youtu.be.
RayPublisher: How many JW apostasy trials (with recorded video) have been posted online? How many have you posted? Where are the others bc I would love to see them!
Ok, I admit it. I was wrong.
I was thinking of other videos of JCs without considering that they weren't technically about "apostasy."
And some of the other JC recordings which I had in mind which were about "apostasy" were only audio.
Whether I posted them or not is irrelevant.
Thanks for sharing!

so i started working at this place 4 years ago.. and i am usually myself a still-in inactive atheist jw at work.
after several months i came to realize the guy i work with is a devout jw... im always afraid of running into him in the conventions.. he is in a different circuit but im afraid he might show up in one of the district conventions.. i am dreading that day...
Flamegrilled, thanks for responding.
You misunderstood a lot of what I said and inferred things I never implied.
For example, I never said, "not to worry," as if life is all EGBOK (everything's gonna be OK) once you realize that the elders only have the authority you give them.
I'm well aware of how much damage this cult can do. My own children shun me because of the messed up rules and practices of this cult. My oldest has barely spoken to me in half a dozen years. This religion ruins families as a result of it authoritarian, high-control practices.
Let me repeat the most important part of that: THIS RELIGION RUINS FAMILIES!
The elders instructed my children to shun me and they listened and obeyed the elders. I told the elders that they did not have the right to tell my children to do this.
After that, I personally went through the humiliating process of being reinstated even though I had woken up to TTATT and was well aware of all of the hypocrisy and lies of the WT leadership. I did this in an attempt to reconcile with my children. So I am well aware of what can happen.
Nevertheless, through it all I learned a lot of valuable lessons, the most important one being true to oneself and realizing that the elders only have as much authority over us as we grant them. We can't control other people. It's and illusion to think so. Perhaps we can influence them. Even that is hard to do.
Our actions have consequences. Our in-actions do too. Being true to oneself is really the most important thing.
Ultimately, the most important relationship we have in this life is the one we have with our self.
