They might be driving me nuts
by stillin inthe "boasting session" last night included forcing the congregation to watch that stupid witnessing cart video.
then the brother handling the part discusses what a "powerful witness" is being given each time those carts roll out into public view.. experiences: had a nice conversation with a young man.
a woman took a tract.

the brother doing the part about using the carts kept emphasizing that a publisher must QUALIFY to do this SPECIAL work.
That's pretty effin' funny!
What "qualifications" exactly does a person need to stand next to a magazine rack?
I would guess first on the list would be the ability to stand in one place for an extended period of time.

FHM: I would love to go stand next to the cart with a sign that quotes from an article from the the WTS with their real view [about higher education], then a statement, "Why not ask these Witnesses about it?"
Brilliant! Counter-Witnessing.
I love it!!!

Magnum: This incident reminds me of one of my main complaints about JWdom - the lack of opportunity for honest, sincere criticism.
Exactly. This is also one of the things that distinguish a legitimate religion from a cult.
Magnum: Suppose there had been someone in the audience who was really concerned about the effectiveness of the cart witnessing. Could he have voiced his concern?
Sure they could have voiced their concern or disagreement, but only at the risk of social sanctions ranging from dirty looks to judgmentally dismissive comments, from a talk by the elders on the need to be "humble" to ostracism and shunning.
Again, proof that this is not a healthy group, but a high-control, authoritarian cult.

There's a pattern emerging
by stillin inthe congregation that i am associated with pledged a monthly amount for the construction of a new assembly hall.
after it was built, that was where we went for several years, even though it was the farthest-away place we had ever had for our circuit assemblies.. after a few years, lo and behold, our congregation is assigned to a new circuit where (surprise!
) a new assembly hall is in the early stages of construction.

Stillin: it means that I should sell all of my stuff, give the money to support the Kingdom work, and take my uneducated ass to live on the street until the New System gets here.
I do hope you're being sarcastic!
Because I think it means this organization is a real estate pyramid scheme disguised as a religion.
Let's review: It's a cult!

Now that you've recognized the pattern, what do you think it means? -

The post is title no more eating children with the rod. It should have been beating children with the rod.
Because "BEATING" is so much better than "EATING" of children!

January 2015, JW TV on Higher Education.
Here are a few "spiritual gems" that fell out of the mouth (or some orifice) of Anthony Morris, the Turd:
"Higher learning can easily influence thinking and attitudes."
Duh! Isn't that the idea? One can only hope!
"The better the university, the greater the danger!"
WTF?!? The only "danger" is that a person will learn that they are in a dangerous, mind-control cult!
"The most intelligent and eloquent professors will be trying to reshape the thinking of your child and their influence can be tremendous."
Again, one can only hope!

Why do religious people make claims and then refuse to back them up?
by Viviane inseveral times over the past few months i have had conversations, both here and in real life, with religious people making all sorts of interesting and conflicting claims.
i like to know how things work, so generally i will ask questions to net out what i am being told and see if it can be explained and make sense.. for instance, if someone said 2+2=4 and i asked how, there are a variety of ways that could be shown to me, a number line, physical objects being put together, counting on fingers and toes, etc.
indeed, in my personal life, i often have to explain how certain technologies work, sometimes planned, sometimes off the cuff, from a variety of group sizes to a varying degree of technical expertise.
