Should we grant crickets, nematodes and echinoderms "personhood"?
Stop the insanity! Where does it end?
there's a current court case in ny which is hearing that question right now.
the precise issue is the continued captivity of two chimpanzees, (leo and hercules, names bestowed by humans) in a medical research laboratory at stony brook university.. i suggest that the application has some merit.
are not all of us "animals?

Data-dog: As humans we are deficient when it comes to communicating with the other intelligent species on our planet.
That is my favorite post of all of your 7,251 posts on our forum!
with all the negativity here i was wondering if i am the only one here that's a witness.
.
the topic pretty much says everything..
When you say "negativity" do you mean openly discussing the faults, failings, lies and hypocrisy of the WT leadership?
This is a forum where people can freely speak and share their own thoughts. That's actually a POSITIVE thing.
so this may 2015 study edition...i know you guys have talked about it already, but wow.
this is classic.
mostly i like to revel in the presentation of these changes.
sd-7: Oubliette, I think I must have been reading the Simplified Edition. I hadn't meant to click on that one, but apparently I must have. Sorry about that.
That make sense.

What's in the round tin in the middle?
'no one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends.'.
many have been hurt by the practice of shunning.
family members, [former?
For some select few: Yes, absolutely yes.
For a few others: Maybe, it would probably depend on the situation.
For most: No fucking way!

They're in a cult under mind-control.
Searcher and cookie master nailed it.

They are a separate, distinct species.
This does not in any way suggest that we, as humans, shouldn't seriously reconsider our treatment of animals in general and certain other species in particular. But chimpanzees can never be "people" because they aren't.
Words have meaning and changing the definition to fit our personal "beliefs" or "worldview" or "fantasy-of-how-life/the universe/and everything should be" does not change reality.
It just doesn't.
We can all hug and sing "Kumbaya" but the world is still a messy place where there are snakes in the grass and lions eat antelopes.
