I have to disagree. From both my personal experience and reading those of countless members of this board, it is clear that the majority of "average JWs" do NOT know what goes on. They are insulated from being aware of the scope of problems with their religion and are indoctrinated to believe that the problems they do know about are exceptions and isolated instances due to "the imperfections of men."
This is why something like this RC is so huge, it reveals the true scope of the massive, institutional cover-up which the WT leadership has systematically implemented for decades.

So she DOES know that the GB is the theoretical head of this organization. She also knows that JWs believe elders are appointed by Holy Spirit.
Funny how she suddenly "remembers" details when specifically queried.
She even knows there are "other kinds of overseers" besides just elders.
So her show of apparently limited knowledge earlier was just an act. Figures.

I couldn't really hear her responses to all of the queries, but it seems that Applewhite may in fact be aware of some of the confidential branch materials.
She admitted that she had NEVER considered any independent materials regarding Jehovah's Witnesses!
She also admitted that she never reviewed any specific cases of sexual abuses among JWs, but has ONLY reviewed what JW's claim they do. She is claiming she has no knowledge of their actual practices or implementation!
Unbelievable!!!

Now we're finding out what "literature" means. So far she is saying it's material that's been published online.
She is definitely hedging to the point of evasiveness.
Nevertheless, if that's true then that implicitly means she does NOT know about any confidential materials: elder's manuals, branch letters and BOE letters.
The RC representative just nailed her with the fact that JW online materials are only dated from the year 2000 to the present.
Applewhite seems to believe that older publications are available online.

Applewhite just testified that she was specifically hired by the "Jehovah's Witnesses" to "review their literature" in reference to issues of the sexual abuse of children.
The men examining her asked if she had ever been critical of the WTBTS. She answered, "No."
What a surprise!

Dr. Applewhite: "The question is, 'How is the child going to be safe?' is the question that has to be answered."
She used the example of a school, saying that they must report suspicions of abuse to the appropriate authorities (child welfare/protective services) and rely on the authorities to take action.
Obviously the WTBTS does NOT do this.

Now it's getting interesting. They are asking her about creating an environment where victims feel SAFE and COMFORTABLE coming forward.
Dr. Applewhite agreed that this is important, a "child-centered" and/or a victim/survivor environment.
Still not much directly about the WTBTS.
