ToesUp: I agree but they just can't give it up. They don't know where else to go. It scares them to leave their comfort zone. It is also there only source of "friends."
I mostly agree with you, except they CAN "give it up," they're just afraid.
I have become convinced that deep down, most--maybe even all--JWs are cowards. They are afraid to face so many things: the real truth and the fact that they've been fooled/duped/swindled.
But maybe their biggest fear is to become self-reliant.

"he claims that he does not expect that the big A will happen in his lifetime."
Well the LEADERS of this religion consistently claim it will, soon in fact.
So if these people don't believe the WT leaders, then why, of why, do they follow them?
Frankly, that's just stupid. It shows a lack of personal integrity and intellectual honesty.
Let's review: It's a cult!

That old time religion............JW.Org
by punkofnice ini had a secret conversation with a dyed in the wool jw recently.. they told me that they felt that the organisation now was a different religion to the 'good old days' when knorr was the boss.
the books were more interesting.
the zeal was there.

Exactly. This is not the religion I joined in the '80s. It was a cult then--in retrospect, I recognize that now--but at least it was interesting and there was some genuineness.
Now its all so vapid, insipid and flat out inane and has turned against almost all of the beliefs that were initially attractive.
The real apostates are the current Governing Body.

Am I understanding this generation overlapping "New Light"
by greenhornet inso i'm thinking...my daughter has a great grand mother that was born in 1900. she was 14 years old in the 1914 year.. well this grand lady died in 1990. my daughter was about 9 years old at that time.
so my daughter can live until 2065.. she will be about 84 in the year 2065. so this "new light" means that 2065 is the new 1914?.
can someone say im right?.

Anyone that thinks they "understand it" has failed thinking ability and compromised moral integrity. -

Who am I to screw up their happiness?
by Crazyguy inthat was the question to me tonight.
because of their beliefs they have a moral compass, a net work of friends and a support group.
they have what they believe is a loving god.

Playing the depression card generally works.
"I'm sorry brothers, I just so depressed right now. I simply am not emotionally ready to go to meetings, go out in FS, etc."
If they press and ask why, tell them it's personal.
Lather, rinse, repeat.
If they suggest a "shepherding call" politely, but firmly, decline. "Thanks for your concern, but I'm just not up for it."
Eventually they'll get busy on something else and give up.

Watchtard Dancing Around the Word "Rapture"
by freemindfade inthere were so many things wrong with this weeks watchtower, its hard to pick one, but one that really bothered me was this watchtower business and their delivery.
i have never seen them quite have to explain something away like this in a study article like this before.
shows me they are battling people feeling confused.

It's totally the rapture.
The latest WT teaching is essentially what Fundamentalist Christians mean when they use the term: Rapture, (minor details aside). Although I doubt JWs will start using the term anytime soon.
JW's now believe in The Rapture
