several recent threads have gotten me started on an essay and i need some research help.
does anyone have access to anything the wt has ever published on intersex people (they might have used the now-outdated term: hermaphrodite)?
Interesting story Poppycat.
Why would your friend even want to be a JW?
Paragraph breaks would have been nice.

canaanitelike!.
here it is in context, just in case you're curious about how to use this new word.. article: being faithful leads to god's approval.
That's better, 3rdgen.
Please don't let such a rookie-error happen again. Just listen, obey and be blessed as the thinkingest people on Earth (that somehow never think their own thoughts).
Now isn't that happifying?

3rdgen: Would it have killed them to say, "Don't behave like the Canaanites." ?
Your prose is definitely an improvement over the clunky WT writing, much smoother.
Except the WT is not just interested in controlling behavior, they want to control thoughts. Read again the original quote:
-
I find it equally odd that it says "from our lives" and not "from our minds."

i think it was gary and heather bottings' book the orwellian world of jehovah's wifnesses that noted the function of the habit of the watchtower organisation of changing organisational terminology periodically.
congregations became companies and then back to congregations again.
circuit overseers became circuit servants and then back again.
Don't forget the whole "district" and "circuit" nonsense came to us from ol' "Judge" Rutherford when he instituted the legalistic approach to "worship" into the IBS/JW "theology."
(Wow, what a lot of "scare quotes" I had to use there!)

You're right Blondie.
I should have written: That means the WT writers have been reading and "researching" in books written by and for member of Babylon the Great, false religion!
recently, several comments have been made in various threads in reference to some of the recent changes to a few of the rules by which jehovah's witnesses must live their lives in unquestioning compliance.
the assertion has been made that these rules are a "relaxing" of previous restrictions.
the suggestion has been made that this somehow indicates a corresponding relaxing or loosening or lessening of the authority which the governing body (gb) holds over the rank and file (r&f) members of the religion.

SBF: Gary and Heather Bottings' ... noted the function of the habit of the Watchtower organisation of changing organisational terminology periodically. ... The Bottings argued that such changes served the function of weeding out inactive members by periodically rendering their terminology obsolete.
That's one possibility, but I think there is another more practical and far-reaching reason: Since nothing REAL is happening in fulfillment of any JW "prophecies" or "theology," they need to manufacture changes periodically to give/maintain the illusion of being progressive (you remember all that "Jehovah's Chariot is on the move" bullshit).
You may appreciate this thread I started a while back which discusses this phenomenon:
