Yes, that was the October 1987 DC, and that woman was standing next to me in the line to get dunked. We chatted as we waited our turn and exchanged contact details, she sent me that photo which was taken post dunk. I will find the actual photos later (that was a scan from my photo album) and check what her name was and PM you if you like. She was in Sydney suburbs, inner west I think. I was living north, Gosford area then.

What crazy demonstrations did you see on the Service Meeting?
by BonaFide ini had a couple of pretty good ones, i thought.. my first one was theocratic news.
i know a lot of congregations that did this one.
we had a long table facing the audience, and we gave the "theocratic news" from the km as if it were a tv news broadcast.

@ Musky - No, I actually got counselled for having red stockings available. Go figure. I also got counselled for wearing a dress that showed a little bit of my shoulders, it had like cutaways in the fabric, but certainly was generous in its cover, but an elder's wife told me that if I had worn it in the israelite's day I would have been stoned to death. I actually wore the dress on the day of my baptism too :) I will find a photo and post it up, still makes me giggle to think about that. Was a rebel even when I was getting baptised.
Ok, found the photo :)

When I was in high school, I used to do alot of art for presentations. I did a pastel drawing of the Suit of Armor thing, I forget the scripture now. I did one of the thing that had feet of clay, forget the details of that too. I did a drawing of Jesus copied from the Bible Stories book, that was huge and got rave reviews. I did afew others too but forget the relevance.
I remember dressing up as a "harlot" for a demonstration. Wore scarlet stockings and rolled my skirt to above the knee and had on tonnes of mascara. I was the "bad example" for the youth in the demo. LOL prophetic really.

What scares me, is that I haven't picked up a publication in over 19 years, and I am sure they are still the same kind of questions at the bottom of every page. :) It's great to be free!

Questions.
Paragraph 1-2. What is the wise course to follow when commenting on the forums?
Paragraph 3-4. Why is it best to limit your comments to under 10 words? What have some inexperienced publishers posters been guilty of?
Paragraph 5. How does the FDS JWN encourage those less experienced?
Paragraph 6. How do we show our love to unremorseful rulebreakers?
Paragraph 7-11. How can we show our support for the leaders of this community?

Something I found useful
by outbackaussie inwhen i was mostly recovered from being a jw i found i was pretty angry and following from that, wanted to "save" my family that were still in.
i have a wonderful husband who is eminently logical and thoughtful, somewhat the opposite of me.
we used to have lengthy discussions about family and responsibility and suchlike.

When I was mostly recovered from being a JW I found I was pretty angry and following from that, wanted to "save" my family that were still in. I have a wonderful husband who is eminently logical and thoughtful, somewhat the opposite of me. We used to have lengthy discussions about family and responsibility and suchlike. I found myself casting about for ways to get through to my family and help them leave behind the mind control that held them captive.
I remember when I first stumbled over Plato's Allegory of the Cave. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegory_of_the_cave I remember thinking it was analagous to being in the Truth. I remember the strange sad acceptance that I felt, realising that I probably could never "show them the light" because the light would hurt them and they would turn from it even if they got that far. That they would certainly attack me as someone who spoke against the status quo. Their reality was just that... theirs. I couldn't inject mine.
So I think it can sometimes be useful to remember that we all have to seek the sun ourselves and be patient with those who are still chained in the dark cave watching shadows.

Kingdom Ministry Comments (April 2009)

"teaching methods on bible studies.. pictures are an excellent teaching and memory aid.".
here is an example of how wt uses a picture to twist the meaning of scripture and present it in the way wt wants it done!.

Maybe the biblical wolf is actually a lion? Nothing would surprise me any more.

The late 80's must have been crunch time for lots of us Aussies. Glad to hear you have managed to overcome the damage done to you by the organisation and have found new joys to relish in life. Where abouts out west did you go?

<div>Bumping to reply to Ozzie :)
I should probably see if I can change my name to CoastalAussie now, we moved back to the coast from western NSW at the beginning of 2005 after 6 years out there in the dust.
I stop in here to find out what the latest take on the end of the world is in dubland, so I have some clue when/if I talk to my relo's in Perth. Since I stopped caring particularly about dubdom I find it less of a concern and more of a curiousity. I have enough to keep me busy in my kiddos to be bothered anymore with being angry about how things went down 17 years ago. I guess I finally got over it.
This isn't meant of course to diminish what anyone else is going through with their own crises or suchlike with the organisation. I am only too well aware of the insidious and consuming nature of the "truth" and how it affects all parts of one's life. I hope I can hold myself an example of how someone can eventually get through it and recover meaning and happiness from an altogether unpleasant cult. I talk to my dubby family, they know and either pretend not to care or pretend not to know that I have "forsaken my god" as they would put it. I just dont talk about religion with them :) And it suits me this way just fine.</div> -
