Steve Pinker ... evidence on the surprising decline in violence
by digderidoo inthis is an interesting lecture.
one that flies in the face of current jw and i assume most non jw thinking.
evidence shows that when examining history mankind was more violent over the centuries than they were during the 20th and 21st century.

Why must we APPLY for everything?
by Tech49 ini was thinking about this today, after seeing another thread on the subject of serving in israel, of all places.
there have been many comments on the recent thread, and the ones a little older, about how utterly ridiculous that premise is.. the bigger question is why do i have to apply?
permission?

New forum 'parousia' is upon us! (software version)
by Simon inthe time has nearly come to switch over to the new forum software.
of course it's not completely finished yet (and never will be) but i think it's good enough to go live with and probably already better than the current one.
i'll give you a quick overview of what to expect and post more detail about the changeover process later.. cloud platform.

Freedom of Relgion has been taken away.
by Jeannette inwhen a person is disfellowshiped by a religion just because he or she doesn't believe it all is very serious.
some disfellowshiped ones have even taken their own lives because they have been made to feel so bad.
it's down in black and white that parents and friends are supposed to shun them, shunning is acting like someone is dead.

Some disfellowshiped ones have even taken their own lives because they have been made to feel so bad. It's down in black and white that parents and friends are supposed to shun them, shunning is acting like someone is dead. And why? Because they chose to exercise their freedom of religion, freedom to worhip as they pleased. I think there is grounds for a class-action suit, and the Society needs to be sued for millions of dollars. I'll bet it can be done.

Leaving with Dignity - a sample document
by Ajax inwe live in democratic, not theocratic times.. churches no longer imprison, torture or execute.. cults have absolutely no authority over non members.
we don't have to obey.
we don't have to subject our selves.

Jeannette
Well, that's true. Freedom of religion doesn't seem to factor in with that religion. You may be on to something-follow your heart. I, myself, wouldn't show it to them because of my experiences with elders, I didn't win. But you do what you want, we have freedom of expression and good luck. Keep us informed, please.

They embedded lots of subliminals in their artwork. That's a way of making us hang on. Dirty of them. It's my opinion that only low down people would be so sneaky and evil. You could google to see if there are subliminals in Jehovah's Witnesses literature and you'll be surprised. Throw them away.

Feeling down as Christmas nears
by Quandry ini don't think i've started but one or two threads before.
i find myself sitting here listening to beautiful instrumental christmas music and feeling down.. you see, i was "in" for over thirty years.
thirty years with no christmas.

Quandry, you came to the right place to talk. Probably most of us on this forum have gut-wrenching tales having to do with our family, our being so blinded and standing up for the truth then finding out it was a scam. And after years and years of faithful service, giving them money, going out in service and collecting money to send to N.Y. we have so many feelings. Feelings of stupidity, regret for the lost years, missing out on our parents, our children. It's just pathetic. I, too, am feeling really bad this Christmas as I took Christmas away from my children, and they resent it so much. Can't blame them. Did not even send my parents a card, and now they're gone. Took Christmas and all the fun away from myself. I don't know how to replace the lost years. I was in for 40 years. Drat it.
