Platonic Friendships....
by diamondblue1974 inthere are some conflicting views on this subject; when i was a teenage jw i was friends with someone of the opposite sex and we were the best of mates...nothing sexual, no attraction in that department at all but it was frowned upon by those in the congregation (as you can probably imagine).. my ex wife never believed a man and woman could be just platonic...hence no longer with her...but..now being somewhat older (and a teeny bit wiser .
what do you think though, do you think a man and woman can be just friends and more importantly has this view been changed since leaving the jw's?.

I think it can be done, judiciously of course. But I have no problem with my wife and her former boss having lunch. I have lunch with a female work associate, though we try to make it a group thing when possible. But if others in the group say their plans have changed, she and I will still go. We'll go out a night on occasion too - in group settings only. And yes, she's very attractive.
But here's a thought - why is it that I will only be interested in forming such a friendship with a woman to whom I am attracted physically? I still don't know the answer (do I have a hidden agenda?), but I wouldn't be hanging with this woman if she was unattractive to me.

Investigated the Dawn Bible Society (Russellites)
by orangefatcat insince investigating the history of the society i thought i would do research on the dawn bible society to others known as the russellites.
today in the mail i recieved a booklet and it is all about pastor russell his life and what happened after he died and the split from the watchtowe society.
some great reading and a real eye opener to the truth of the breakoff .

A few months back I looked into the Bible Students, though I don't think it was the Dawn students specifically. There was also a guy who posted here often, and defended the Students. His username escapes me at the moment. Some of his comments here did more harm than good to the BS (slight pun intended) cause, in my view.
Though I found some things about the Bible Students to be somewhat interesting (their symbol for example contains a cross topped with a crown if memory serves; and many teachings similar to the jws but one was free to disagree) what bothered me is their near-reverence of Russell. I also was taken back by their seeming obsession with the Rutherford takeover and the dismissal of members of the Society's board back around 1917.
While Russell was certainly a more congenial leader that Rutherford, he was obviously quite wrong on many teachings, especially when it came to chronology. To revere the guy borders on idolatry....and insanity.

The Generation Game 10 years on - 1995
by truthseeker init's been roughly ten years since the change in the understanding of the generation was printed in a november watchtower.. while i won't discuss here what everyone already knows about this change, and the effects it had on many people, questions have to be asked.. what happens next for the watchtower society?
where is the leadership?.
in what direction are they headed?.

Kill the Kid, Now That's Justice! (WT 5/15/05 QFR)
by ezekiel3 inthis in it's entirety from the watchtower may 15, 2005, page 31. you might find the reasoning a bit hollow.
questions from readers.
why were david and bath-sheba not put to death for committing adultery, whereas their newborn son died?.

We can be confident that Jehovah dealt with the matter justly, for "perfect is his way."-2 Samuel 22:31
Here, they pass the matter off, since God's rationale is humanly incomprehensible and unjust. The WTS often uses such tactics in ultimately dismissing questions about Jehovah's ("J.E. Hoover's", I love that term!) way of handling such things.
Some find it difficult to understand why the son had to die, since Deuteronomy 24: 16 states: "Children should not be put to death on account of fathers."
So God violates his own standards. How else can this be explained but to say that God kept the two "sinners" alive while putting the innocent to death? Again, incomprehensible.
The loss of the son might also have helped David to realize more keenly how displeased Jehovah was with his sin with Bath-sheba
So J God decides that killing the son is a good way to teach a lesson? Did I mention that this account is incomprehensible?
Since the case involved David, with whom He had made the Kingdom covenant, Jehovah chose to make an exception and deal with the matter himself
David lucks out....again. Luckiest guy in the Bible. By the way, jws never have the luxury of having their matters handled directly by God. They have to go to the elders.

Money.
Okay, there wasn't much of that - on her part or mine.
Whatever it was, it no longer seems to exist, at least on my end. I'm a married man living like the Bubble Boy.

It did sort of happen with someone here who I had been e-mailing with and chatting online with. Then her computer went down. Then poof!, gone for about 3 months only to resurface here with one thread, a couple of comments, but no more e-mails or online log-ins. Then she vanished again and hasn't posted here for over two years.
