Worst Bible Verse ... EVER
by Wild_Thing infrom the nwt, of course.
none of the other versions make it sound any better, either.
2 timothy, chapter 2 has been used and abused to suppress women everywhere.

Many verses are going to look bad when examined in the light of Western cultural values. Back then, I would think, much of what we consider outrageous seemed quite normal.
One problem that many have with the Bible - and it may well be a very valid criticism- is that the Bible seldom, if ever, lifts itself above the cultural norms of the day.

I have what I would consider to be "Interests" but no real hobbies. Maybe I'm drawing too distinct a line between the two.
For example, I have a gym membership and work out regularly. Yet, I consider that more of an interest than a hobby. But maybe that is a hobby?
I guess I think of a hobby as more of something that one spends hours on and is meticulous about. I'm not terribly meticulous about fitness. I don't micro-manage my diet, for example, weigh foods and count protein grams, etc. To me, that's what would put fitness into the category of a hobby.

What have you learned, Terry, from TEN YEARS on this discussion board?
by Terry in1. it's not all about me.. each of us has to grow up our own way at our own pace.
when we regain our balance we can be of help to other people.
life doesn't.

Very interesting post Terry.
In reference to #3, I think I'd add that "Kingdom Activity" is also no substitute for treating people well. And, JWs are led to believe that being busy in such activities is the key measure of one's standing with God and man.
How many of us know the stalwart elder or busy pioneer who does not treat others well? I'd venture that we've all met at least one, if not several.

Suggestions for ways to improve 'jehovahs-witness.com'
by Esse quam videri ini am hesitant to continue on this board.
my main reasons are that not enough content is shown on the screen which means more scrolling, and there is no indication of how many views each posting receives.
this, in my opinion, is critical to keep the postings coming.

I agree with Simon. Page views, well, I never pay attention to them for all the reasons Simon listed. It's a very misleading indicator, potentially as well as in practice. -

Your favourite WTS publication?
by LoveUniHateExams ini realise that starting this thread may make me as popular as a ginger stepchild but was there any wts publication that you liked, or at least comfortably tolerated?.
my memory may be deceiving me but i think the greatest man book was pretty good, leaving out the gruesome detail of the crucifixtion and wts doctrine.. also, can anyone tell me the list of books that ray franz authored/co-authored?.
thanks.

Creationist Should Dismiss Genesis Quickly
by Coded Logic inchris tann,.
in your earlier post you seemed to be under the impression that genesis and science were somehow compatible .
however, the truth is the two are not reconcilable at all.

Though I'm pretty much on board with the OP's presentation, I think it might be argued by Creationists that, in Gen 1:1, the "heavens and the earth" might be understood as 'heavens and [then] the earth", i.e; the listing of the heavens first implies that they were created first.
Of course, one would have to admit that the text does not say "and then the earth".

why didnt God just do this?
by sowhatnow infor one thing, i cant get past genesis, but no matter.. when god told adam and eve if you eat from the tree youll die.
so why did he not simple let them die and not allow the offspring to?.
you see, if i was a god, and i told two people that, id let them die , .

I like your account better, redvip2000.
The bible is often called the greatest story ever told; but it's probably the dumbest story ever told.
