what a game.
right down to the wire.
my heart is racing..
Yep, my Niners made a great comeback, and Jeremy Shockey can now shut up. And so can Michael Strahan, who told Terrell Owens to look at the scoreboard after the Niners made it 38-22. Strahan was handled all day and did squat. He can have his fake sack record from last year that Favre handed him on a freaking silver platter.
Of course, Owens was acting up again at the end, and almost cost his team dearly, were it not for the stupid Giants' retaliations that caused offsetting penalties.
I always respected Strahan by the way, until that sack fiasco last year. Then he got big bucks and his production dropped significantly. He is still a good player though.
I don't think the Niners will beat the Bucs, but who knows, we'll see.

my theory
maybe the org was right with all of their predictions about the timeline of 607bc 1914?
except for the small difference, the time that jesus spent on the earth was exempt from the calculations?
One guy I know, a jw, holds to 2005, based on 1975 plus 30 years (the time Adam would be, in his view, alone till Eve was created).
I personally agree w megadude that such dates and predictions are useless. After all, if Jesus said "on a day that you do not think to be it the Son Of Man is coming" then it's obvious to me that such efforst to pick that date are a waste.
"they" refers to the watchtower society, the elders, the brothers and sisters, etc.
when you look at how much control has been exerted over us over the years, you can't help but be amazed.
for example, if we had a major snowstorm in the area and the entire state was told by the governor to "please not go out", unless the call was made by the elders, the meeting was still on and you were expected to attend.
nakedvid...unfortunately, many, many here have not found out they were controlled until much time had gone by. It's not something that manifests itself with just one or two events most of the time. It's a cumulative effect of perhaps years of dealing with controlling elders and other jws who find area after area in which to exert their influence.
okay, i know that historical evidence is that jerusalem fell in 586/7 instead of 607 - as the wtbts would have.
however, that is not compelling enough to show a hypothetical jw.
they (generally) must not only be show that the opposition is correct, but that the wtbts is wrong.
I've enjoyed this tread and especially Alan F's comments, and of course Farkel's comments on page one are among the funiest I've read in a long time.
One thing that factors into my thinking on why the whole Witness teaching revolving around 1914 is not correct is simply because of the passage of time since then. That generation is virtually gone. The people who lived before then, who were alive when Russell wrote what he wrote, are gone.
I realize that the WTS has changed its treaching on the matter of a "generation", but to me, the words of Jesus in Matthew 24 involved the people who were there to hear him say them. The "end", the destruction of Jerusalem, occcured just 37 years after Jesus spoke those words, so there was no necessity for projections, revisions, and guesses - it all wrapped up within a relatively short period of time, and most of the folks who hear what Jesus said were still alive to witness the fulfillment of what he said.
As Franz wrote in Cof C, one brother in an African Branch Office asked whether it would be better to simply understand Jesus' words as applying in his time only. While a whole discussion on that is best left to another thread at another time, sometimes I think that brother had a point.
i have to confess to being a weak ohio state university fan....that said: .

good morning everyone, (it's 4am here) .
i see the e-watchman site is advertised here, so have any of you read from it?
if so what's your opinions of it?.
RR, I was in a similar situation - conducting bookstudies in the Revelation Climax book, and trying to figure out how in the world the "trumpet blasts" could rever to things said at convention,s which by now have been either disgarded or have faded from memory. Plus, the people who heard those "blasts" are, for the most part, dead. So in what way could they have been significant?

I've read several of his essays, and after that, I also thought he could be You Know. There seem to be similarities in writing style and conclusions drawn.
Bottom line is, the WTS can be none too pleased with what he is saying. What he writes, though obstensibly in support of God's supposed use of the Organization, still undermines their crediblity. After all, God was mighty pissed at ancient Israel, and only a remnant supposedly survived His judgements, so the WTS would not look kindly upon such statements. Plus, as we all know, the WTS views anything that does not come from them as wrong anyway.

mine are:.
don't be late!.
don't drink so much!.
None for me, but heck, I've got plenty of time yet to formulate some.....9 hours, 4 mins and counting.
i just got through talking to a couple of elders, they both had moved here from other places, one from fla and one from wis. i can't remember their names.
they said the society had instructed them to call on all inactive ones.. they were nice to me, but had the same old answers that i used to present.
i brought up a lot of things for them to think about, but their minds have been carefully programed so it didn't register.
Some posts here have indicated, directly or by implication, that inactive persons will be asked a question somewhat along the lines of "do you still consider yourself one of Jehovah's Witnesses" in what appears to be an effort to 'weed out' some for possibly an eventual DA.
