Here's my guess: Of the four youngsters mentioned at that assembly, two will end up committing fornication and get publicly reproved or df'd. Another will become a member of this board someday. And the remaining one will become an overbearing, strict jw parent - and of course be viewed as a 'fine example' in the congregation.

Baptize 'em young, keep 'em outta Sports - My notes from the last assembly
by jgnat ini had heard of accounts of young baptisms, but i figured it was the exception rather than the rule.
now i wonder, after viewing the models of youth paraded at the last assembly.
i took note of the ages and age of baptism of the five young men (no girls this time) who were interviewed as models of jw youth at this last week's assembly.

Have you experienced a Tornado?
by jeanniebeanz intoday, a small tornado touched down in south san francisco and people went nutz.
it was very localized and basically blew out a few windows, but looking at the local news you'd think that the sky was falling.
since some of you live in 'tornado alley', can you please enlighten us californians as to what you consider to be a 'real' tornado?

I've never experienced one, though at times they do come this way, especially so in the western parts of PA.
One thing that amazes me is how snowstorms are so hyped around here. While a snowstorm can cause problems, they are usually not destructive. And yet, if one tunes in to weather forecasts, the hype is sometimes unreal. Recently, one forecaster at Accuweather characterized a snow storm on Feb 28 as a possible "Armageddon" storm. I think the term "Armageddon" ought to be reserved strictly for things like hurricanes and tornadoes and such, and of course that thing that jws are so looking forward to.

New DF/DA Policy?
by new light inwould someone who has the new od book explain any changes in "keeping the congregation clean"?
is it still the same policy or have they actually changed anything?
i'd especially like to know if they are changing their tune on the "inactive".

Just a point about those who are "inactive" - while persons who do not engage in the filed ministry for a period of six months are the ones who are technically termed "inactive", if they attend meeting fairly regularly, it normally will be only the elders who know they are "inactive" the strict jw sense. Such persons might be treated pretty normally by those in the congregation because they are seen at the meetings.
Of course, if word gets out, i.e, if some elder opens his mouth, then before you know it, a mild (or sometimes pretty severe) form of shunning takes place, and the person barely gets spoken with or acknowledged at the Kingdom Hall.
As far as being inactive in the sense of not attending meetings at all, those persons are often practically shunned, though this is supposedly not the 'official' stance. There's been many an account posted here about those who are inactive being pretty much shunned by elders and congregation members alike.

Ah yes, another "Special Announcement", just like the one over a decade ago about the move to the "donation arrangement". The Hall was filled, as people were tantalized by the prospect of some revelation from the WTS concerning Armageddon or something along those lines.
My guess is that, unless word gets out in advance, the effect will be similar - much higher than average meeting attendance and a bunch of disappointed people filing out afterward.
My guess is alos that, since this is near the Memorial in timing, it's a tactic to get people back to the Kingdom Halls so that they can be plied into attending the Memorial.

on my way to work in our city's downtown area i regularly see a pioneer walking up and down the street, holding up his magazines.

I wanted to say something to him, but he was on the other side of the street and I was headed in the opposite direction.
It's very interesting reading some of the cold weather experiences. I remember more than a few mornings of trying to go door-door in very cold weather. It's lunacy - and the householders think you're a nut, which is obviously counter-productive to the religion anyway. But as some already mentioned, it's all about appearing devout in the eyes of the elders and other jws.

I forgot to add an important detail - it was 8:00 AM when I saw him. The jws in my area are normally not out there until 9:30-10:00. But this guy normally is out earlier, and today, unwisely on his part, was no exception.

On my way to work in our city's downtown area I regularly see a pioneer walking up and down the street, holding up his magazines. No biggie, but what I saw today takes the cake:
He was walking while pushing a baby in a stroller. This morning's temperature was 10 degrees F, with wind chills well below zero. This is one of the coldest mornings we've had this winter.
I was absolutely flabbergasted that this guy could take a baby out in service in such weather. He had one of those plastic shields over the stroller, but unless he installed heating in there, in my view he was putting the child at risk, if not of hypothermia, of at least getting sick.
Unreal, but then again, for a jw, not all that surprising.
