Creativehoney,
I understand you consider Ray Franz to an ordinary run-of-the-mill sort of person.
And I am wondering what sort of person would garner your admiration and respect.

there seems to be so much controversy over defining what exactly a 'generation' is.. i have heard it said a generation is 25 years; some claim it is 40 years; and some even say 70 years.. i think the scriptures describe the 70 years as life expectancy, with mightiness 80 years or something like that.. i don't think it is accurate to define the length of generation as the same length of time as life expectancy, but i could be wrong.. .
anyway, i am wondering if anyone has ever done the math on this scriptural clue:.
matthew 1:17 so all the generations from abraham to david are fourteen generations; and from david until the carrying away into babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into babylon unto christ are fourteen generations.. if one follows the lineage and a date timeline, would this give more accurately the approximation of a generation?.
OK so do my figures add up?

The time from Abraham till Jesus, and from the birth of Jesus ‘till now is about the same, each 2000 years.
If it was 42 generations in the first 2000 years, it would be reasonable to say 42 generations for the second.
So altogether that makes 84 generations. Even if we say the generations from Jesus birth ‘till now are 25yrs long, it is still only 122 generations.
Still a long way from the thousand promised.

Hi Cameo-d,
You asked by formula for arriving at the Biblical generation.
Well......................................... you quoted Matt 1:17
17 All the generations, then, from Abraham until David were fourteen generations, and from David until the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon until the Christ fourteen generations.
So that makes 42 generations . The Google consensus seems to be that Abraham was born ABOUT 2000 years before Jesus.
I divided 42 generations into the 2000 years and……………………. what was hidden has been exposed.
47.619047619047619047618 years is a Biblical generation
Give or take a few seconds, minutes, days, weeks or years.

If there were 42 generations between Abraham and Jesus and Abraham was born about 2000 BC
its about 47.619047619047619047618 years.
So there you have it: A Bibical generation is:
47.619047619047619047618 years
we all need to blow off steam.
ex-jw's come on here and post humor or read about john doe's trying out a vegetarian lifestyle.
that's all fine and cool.
Spot on OTWO.
I never cease to be amazed that grown men and women can spend their time and energy
on the myriad of so called "celebrities". It's all so superficial when there are serious problems facing mankind.
It seems like a generation with shallow values. Or is that the generation that knew the generation with shallow values.

i composed the file at.

in response to a jehovahs witnesss comment that people had looked forward to 1914.. .
Thanks Doug. I've downloaded all your hard work.
It's the sort of material that could be of interest to one of my questioning Witness relatives.

didn't see this posted here.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wf_zi-t1nus.
i liked the second comment..
Didn't Jesus say, "Come to me all you who are toiling and loaded down, and I will refresh you. Take my yoke upon you ...........and you will find refreshment for your souls. For my yoke is kindly and my load is light."
But there is no mention about Jesus. Once they said they were grateful to Jehovah, once for the Holy Spirit and the big one........
Gratitude for what Jehovah's organization is doing for them.

im sure this has been mentioned many times on this site but i wanted to express my personal feelings of gratitude to paul at jwfacts.com.
paul, your site changed my life.
even though i discovered it when i was already disfellowshipped and really didnt have the intention of going back, i was still a fierce jw apologist.
That was when I was more idealistic and did not understand how beliefs cannot just be changed by logic or facts alone.
Yes Paul, many of us are still coming to grips with that very hard lesson.
Take care,

twenty+ year veteran japanese bethelites sent to the field as special pioneers.
i don't have the exact number laid off.
however, there are a total of 550+ members at the ebina branch, so if the trend reflects the same as in the u.s. and europe branches, then we can assume at least between 10% - 20%.. in order to counterbalance the need for a work force but without having to incur expenses by housing and feeding them, japan bethel is considering opening the door to "commuting bethelites".
I was speaking to a Japanese Witness about the situation and it appears many will be laid of.
According to a letter read to the congregations they have two new groups of Bethelites.
1. TEMPORARY: They come to Bethel and stay from one week to three months. Can count pioneer time.
2. PART TIME: They comute from home. Must be within an hour's driving distance. Their term can be from one week to six months.
