I agree with Steve2, apathy is their greatest threat. I didn't even register the generation changes coz I switch off what they talk about from the platform. I have been doing that for years & I know I'm not the lonely one - Its just so booorrriiinnnggg.... My friend in another congo wld go to the toilet & spend half the meeting catching up on the latest gossip with close friends, the other half trying to stay awake. During our DC over the years we spent more time at the local cafe having coffee's than we did listening to the sessions. The cafe during the sessions is the best meeting place for many jw's. The apathy seems to be getting worse each year amoung many. But it sure keeps yr social life busy...

"Worlds Apart" A danish movie about a young coming of age Jehovahs Witness , screening on SBS2 tonight in Victoria
by smiddy ini know their have been screenings of this movie before , but this notice is for any newbies here that may not have seen it previously.
it is scheduled to screen at 10:25 pm on ch.32 sbs2 sun.25/8/13 .
maybe other states in australia can view it on-line , or request it be shown by sbs in their state.. it is an interesting movie , and apart from minor flaws , pretty accurate despite the beard, though i am told the danes are a bit more liberal than the west.. the real / actual jehovahs witness this story is based on has a cameo appearance near the end of this movie in the train sequence.. please let me know if you watch it and your thoughts about it .. smiddy.

Well I gotta go......
by punkofnice in...i might drop in every now and then but i hope you all enjoy life, escape the watchtower(r) and live prosperous lives.. i can't say i contribute much here anyway (and i'm not attention seeking).. i'm just going to get on with life away from the constant reminder of the mistakes i made being a jw zombie drone.. i guess i'm just going to fade.......rather quickly.. of course i didn't need to make any posts here to disappear but i thought it'd be polite and very british to bid you all a fond farewell.. see you all sometime.....maybe.....maybe not.....maybe....... bye!.
ps.
don't pm me as i won't be checking the pms.. .

How many JWs are genuinely in "good standing"?
by slimboyfat inan interesting question arose from my earlier thread:.
we all know that many jws do stuff that would get them disfellowshipped, but never get caught.
but how many jws do you think there really are who have never kept any disfellowshipping "offense" secret?

Very few... Those genuinely in 'good standing' are very rare...

Shocking talk from 2013 District Convention urges parents to shun disfellowshipped children

Thanks Cedars. This has to be one of the most disgusting talks I have ever heard as I have family members who are disfellowshipped. I felt both upset & angry at the same time How dare they cause such divisions within families. And this shunning business does not work. A friend of mine went to a family jw wedding & her df'd cousin was at the ceremony. She was so genuinely happy to see her, that she gave her the biggest hug & talked for a while. Her other sister (married to a co & thinks she's above everyone else) told her off but she told her to get off her high horse & rather than sitting there giving the df'd relative dirty looks, maybe she should try encouraging her by treating her like a person. The df'd relative spoke to a few of her jw relatives that day (there is a lot of jw's that don't go along with the shunning policy) & said how much she missed everyone & has since started coming back to meetings. I hope she doesn't come back...
Jack Harper & Mrs Harper, I think yr awesome. A close friend of mine was df'd a few years ago. Each time I see his sister, I ask about him & ask her to pass on my love to him as I miss him. She always has years in her eyes when I do that - I would hate to think just how hurtful this talk would be to her whole family.

Former Unbaptized Publisher, New Here
by GloomySunday informer unbaptized publisher, here.. i'm new to the forums and have hesitated for months to join this forum.
i was raised in a jw family, and was never baptized, because one of my parents didn't think i should be baptized early.. my mother became inactive, but i eventually went back for social contact, eventually starting a study.
i raised a few questions, only to find that the conductor would get irritated and defensive when my questions would get deeper into the topic.
