"Charitable Giving" Brochure
by HintOfLime incan someone provide me with some information on the names and nature of a brochure by the wt with a name something along the lines of "charitable giving"?
upon learning that a close jw relative was diagnosed with cancer, and possibly on their deathbed, the "friendly neighborhood jw hopital group" showed up, had a lengthy closed-door discussion with him one-on-one (wife couldn't be present), and left a brocure and dvd in the room with a title along the lines of "charitable giving" - i'm sorry, i didn't read the full name before it disappeared.
the 'brothers' (*cough* moneyhounders in sheeps clothing *cough*) had already left this "information" and had "discussions" with him before even the family learned of the situation and had arrived.. am i right in thinking this is a "you're soon-to-be-widow doesn't really need that life insurance money" brochure?

The Governing Bodys irrational fear of the Apostate Boogeyman
by Londo111 inhttp://freeminds2.org/the-theocratic-life-and-times-of-theodore-jaracz/.
i was reading the above article by barbara anderson and was struck that, rather than knowing better, the governing body actually believes in this shadowy organization of former members who are out to attack them.
[jaracz] said that the governing body had been preparing for much longer than anybody could guess for an attack by apostates.

That's interesting..
I often wonder how the GB and upper management view apostates - the Rank and file view them as boogeymen, but the upper ranks are aware of what apostates know, so I wondered how they justify things.
I phoned Bethel yesterday after not recieving a reply to a letter.
Wow! the cognitive dissonence and denial in the brother I spoke to was painful to witness.
This is somone who knew pretty much everything we know about the Society but was so deep in denial - I guess it was a small glimpse of how the GB must be.
He was lying and misdirecting as easily as he was breathing - and I'm pretty sure he believed everything he was saying. His justifications and avoiding issues was the sworn enemy of reason - so easy to pick apart everything he said (of course I barely got to say anything as he wasn't listening)
I was told that it was obvious my questions were not genuine and the Society do not bother answering questions from disgruntled Jehovah's Witnesses. He said they rather talk to people of other religions who are seeking 'truth', than Jehovah's Witnesses that ask critical questions about child abuse policies etc.
He said they have heard these 'apostate' issues in phone calls and letters and the media for years but don't bother replying or acknowledging them as it's a 'waste of the Society's time'. (I was going to mention that the society in their public response to the UN incident 'thanked those who brought the issue to their attention' when they were publically outed in the media - But could barely get a word in edgewise)
He was getting quite heated as he threw the usual bullshit at me. He ended the 'conversation' by saying it's lunch time and he has to go to eat.
Running away from the truth as usual.

Can you take someone with you in Judicial Committee?
by zound ini've heard of a couple of cases of a person being present (maybe wife, or friend) for support at judicial committees - is this commonly accepted by the elder committee or is it just a rarity?.

"Pst! You CAN go to an international convention even if you're poor, but don't tell everyone!"
by cedars inthe 2014/2015 international conventions have been announced, and will be held in the following cities.... melbourne, australia october 2014london, england august 2014quito, ecuador january 2015frankfurt, germany july 2014athens, greece june 2014seoul, korea september 2014mexico city, mexico november 2014harare, zimbabwe august 2014as always there is a long list of requirements for those wealthy enough to attend - including the requirement to keep your "exemplary status" right up to the day of departure or lose all your money.. there is also a curious paragraph that seems to indicate an element of subterfuge.... special rooming: confidentially, we will be asking the host branch office to poll local brothers to determine if some might be able to provide limited rooming provisions in private homes.
this information is not to be made known to the applicants in general.
however, if the elders are aware of a longtime, faithful servant, perhaps with many years of full-time service, who is not able to fully finance such a trip, he could be encouraged to apply and the secretary can check the box on the electronic jw.org application that this delegate qualifies for the special rooming provision, if available.. basically, watchtower is admitting that it is possible to attend an international convention even if you can't afford the hotel, but they don't want everyone to know because they want as many full-paying delegates as possible.. my article on this can be found on the link below.... http://jwsurvey.org/cedars-blog/watchtower-announces-new-international-conventions-while-downsizing-district-conventions-for-2014.

Shocking talk from 2013 District Convention urges parents to shun disfellowshipped children

Thanks for the vid Cedars. Did you happen to have a transcript? I want to include part of it in a letter.
What annoys me is the 'poor' family or loved ones of the disfellowshipped person who are going through such hardship. I remember the pity parties thrown for the family members of disfellowshipped ones in my old congregation, people saying "It must be so HARD for you!" "How could THEY have hurt YOU so much!"
Also interesting to note (and this is reflected by individual JW's) he keeps saying in the talk that they "Leave Jehovah". I CONSTANTLY got this. Making the clarification of leaving "organisation" vs. leaving "God" seems to fall on deaf ears.

Expanding on a point someone made in another thread:
Just wondering if anyone ever heard any experiences at assemblies or Khalls of apostates that went back to become an upstanding JW. Or even just experiences related amongst JW's. Similar to the familiar "I used to be a heavy metalist but then there was a knock on the door...", or "I was disfellowshipped for immorality but then I saw the error of my ways.."
I'm not talking about apostates who go back in order to be with their families, who I imagine wouldn't be caught dead relating their repentance on an assembly stage.

Emotional Abuse -what it does to children..!!!!!!
by Jang inemotional abuse is the systematic diminishment of another.
it may be intentional or subconscious (or both), but it is always a. course of conduct, not a single event.
it is designed to reduce a child's self-concept to the point where the victim considers.

Thought I'd just bump this thread. Probably relevent to varying degrees to everyone raised a JW. I know it sent shivers down my spine as I read through it.

I experienced that but it passed for the most part - time helps. Or maybe you haven't read enough to debunk everything - that takes alot. I thought I'd seen all the 'apostate' issues, but then found a buttload more that helped to further clear out any lingering mind control.
Occasionally when I'm in a scary moment I sometimes get a sudden urge to pray (I'm an athiest) - but that's more God in general than Watchtower. Old habits take a while to work out of your system.
