Giant thread of convince-me-not-to-be-a-theist
by DS211 inif you could teach me one thing to convince me not to believe what would it be?
for instance what has the wt taught about evolution/science or mans existence that is wrong and could possibly change skmeones mind?
and the more important question, why is it a creator couldnt allow for species to evolve?

...and I am being reminded by my Lord to go back and address this. I take full responsibility for missing it, because my Lord did point out that you were saying...
You have no idea how creepy this sounds Tammy - I worry for you.

Which vacation would the Society prefer a Witness take?
by LogCon inof the three following vacations, which one would the watchtower society prefer that a witness take?.
1 - a three week working volunteer vacation in bethlehem, to help the international palestinian youth league and the alternative information center, [ a joint palestinian and israeli activist organization] to turn a former israeli army base into a residential compound with a school, a hospital, a youth house and a series of gardens.. 2 - a three week working volunteer vacation to help the local food bank collect, stock and distribute food to the needy.
duties would include preparing tasty and nutritious meals for local residents including families.. 3 - a three week cruise from seattle to hawaii, enjoying all the amenities of the luxury liner, as well as seven days in hawaii enjoying the scenery, the restaurants and the hot, sandy beaches.. if you are able to make more detailed comments i would greatly appreciate it.

If by distribute food you mean distribute "spiritual" food and the vacinity is in proximity to a Khall so you can still go to the meetings - then the answer is number two.

Lol comotose.
The voices in my head (otherwise known as my thoughts) are telling me that the bible is an unreliable source of knowledge about reality.

I'd still submit that you DO interpret scripture Tec - there is countless examples of you arguing (usually with Adamah) about the particular wording of an obscure scripture or something - arguing from your perspective what the scripture means (so that it fits in with your worldview). If this isn't interpretation what is?
On a macro level - I interpret the entire bible as a mix of made up bullshit, plagorized bullshit, bullshit based on a very small grain of truth, and bullshit produced by ignorant people of an ignorant time.
You interpretation is (okay your interpretation is complicated as you find ways of excusing various parts of the bibel etc) - but in general your interpretation is that it is true, jesus existed, did the things it claims etc etc.
Am I missing something here?

Does it matter what I believe, or rather, interpret? I don't know exactly. I would be guessing. I don't know where on the line that would mean (species perhaps, or family, or whatever... and I CAN use those words, because I know them, whereas someone from long ago who is not aware of those words would have to use a description that they understand. Same with describing some things in Revelation, as was my point with the example about John describing modern or near modern things, with the language ability of a man two thousand years ago)
Isn't that interpreting?
Surmising that the writer actually meant species when he said kind due to the fact of his current knowledge etc.

Hey DS211,
I don't know your exact beliefs - but I'll try and keep my answer simple.
Atheism requires less cognitive dissonence than theism.

A Jesus question...
by zound inthis is directed to believers in jesus.. if jesus existed, and did the miracles he did - quite openly and in public - and spoke the words he spoke, words that echo through the centuries and supposedly have the power to change peoples lives today just by reading them.... ...why is it that so many people in the time of his presence on earth, who saw the miracles, heard the sermons - heard the very voice of the son of god - why were so many less than impressed?
why did many experience all that and then conclude "messiah?
nah i don't think so.".

I understand that pacloc, but for example - the earth shaking and graves being opened up and people resurected and walking around upon Jesus death I would have thought may have persueded even the Jews that condemed him to death in the first place that he was in fact the Messiah.
Why is it they most likely experienced all that, or at the very least heard second hand accounts of it (as opposed to the translation and time desiminated accounts we have today) and still decided - "Messiah? No, just some crazy guy."
