Your Story
by Blueblades inhi everyone, blueblades here!
please tell me your story.on a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your current desire to know god personally?
why?thank you.

JamesThomas
It would be a 10+. There is a major hunger to realize first hand what the word "God" points to. The path for me has been to forsake idea's, beliefs and concepts about God. To let go of anthropomorphizing and making That, which is our Source, into a "thing" or personage. It is more a moment by moment witnessing of the aliveness within my own being. It's not about words or religion anymore. It's about right here, right now. JamesT

Fanaticism
by Wolfgirl inthe common leader and his followers work mainly off of the desire to end isolation but the fanatical leader and his disciples incorporate the second primal fear, the fear of death, into the equation.
and by death i mean annihilation the utter obliteration of any and every bit of a persons earthly existence and legacy.
the leader who promises his people that adherence to his laws and teachings will not only relieve the pain of their isolation but also allow them to defy death, to achieve some kind of spiritual immortality through worthy deeds, that type of leader achieves a supreme control that the first type cant match and creates an entirely different kind of follower in the process.

Religion as practiced today deals in punishments and rewards.
In other words, it breeds fear and greed -- the two things most destructive of spirituality.

Logansrun.....has arrived
by logansrun ini just thought i would post a little about myself here, even though some of you might know me from the "beyond jehovah's witnesses" forum.
my name is bradley and i live in a suburb of chicago illinois.
i'm currently twenty six years old and left the jws about nine months ago after a year and a half of intense doubts, many hundreds of hours of research, cognitive dissonance and bouts of vomitting (stressful, eh?).

Recurring Dreams?
by ESTEE indo you have a recurring dream?.
i have had recurring dreams .
and lately i have noticed a change.. i used to have nightmares that i was back in the kingdom hall .

Estee,
What a wonderful dream. Your description was very easy to visualize.
A lot of chain breaking symbolism there. And the freeing emotions that you felt would imply some pretty deep healing.

JWs are broken souls
by Introspection ini heard this from a friend of mine once, this is how he described an elder i used to be roommates with.
i went to court for jury duty yesterday, and lo and behold there was a witness sitting in front of me, reading the new book on isaiah or whatever it was - and there i was behind him reading steven hassan's combating cult mind control.
(oh the irony - if only i had a pic) .

there's a quality of a being a broken shell. I think the best way I can describe it is the look of someone with an empty heart. Do you know what I mean?
Yes, Intro, I know what you mean.
I really feel that the core reason for this phenomena is belief in a god who will kill you if you do not love Him. It's impossible to love such a creature, and results in spiritual rape.....an empty heart.

What IS Gods name anyway?
by NikL ini am sure this topic has been brought up many times here but i don't always have the oppertunity to read all the posts so i am going to raise it again.. i went to the meeting the other day with my wife and this came up in the talk.
the speaker saying how improtant it was to have the right bible to get the most out of bible reading.
the right bible being the nwt of course because it uses the divine name which we all know is jehovah...or yahweh.

Did you have a Superiority Complex?
by JH inwhen you were an active witness, you were led to believe that you were saved, and the rest of the world was doomed to die at armageddon, did this make you feel superior to non witnesses?
from that point, did you develop a superiority complex over them?
now that you are out, do the witnesses give you the look as if you are only bird feed?
-
JamesThomas
The lead question and the debate that has followed is based on the impossible.
It is totally impossible to truly love a god who will kill you if you don't. Thus, under such a scenario, we are all bird feed.
As long as we view god as a personage out there who is judging us...it's a no win.

What about praying NOW???
by JNS2 innow that my decision to leave the organization is made, there is definitely a sense of relief.
i know i'm leaving a controlling organization, not my faith in god.
so i'm still praying at various times during the day, but it has become a very odd thing now.

When I was df'd some twenty years ago, I went through many months of not only not praying, but hating God with a passion. I felt totally betrayed and abandon.
Eventually I started praying again, not using the name Jehovah, as it conjured up painful mental images of a vengeful and savage god. Then years later I could use the name Jehovah, it actually had a nice ring; but it still came with a mental image of some "thing" distant and far away.
Presently, in prayer, I use the title "Beloved". And I focus attention not out and away, but into my heart. That intimate place where there is a bitter-sweet ach for connection. Connection to wholeness and peace.
