The `still small voice` a phrase taken from the king James version is really a psychic sense for lack of a better term, I think, which could well be from God depending on one’s viewpoint. When I was about 8 or 9 I had a dream watching a big TV screen like an internet screen, even though it didn’t exist back then, and on it was a program revealing the status of all religions and denomination in terms of a true or false status. Many screen shots kept appearing on the screen corresponding to different denominations and religions, each with a true or false option coming up and a voice saying true or false. Every screen so far was false in the dream. I was convinced that when the JW screen came up it would be true. Guess what though? It came up and was false and I still remember the shock I felt in the dream at such an outcome. All these years later, I still remember it and the fact I didn’t have the wisdom to listen to it at 8 or 9 years of age. Even at that age I felt the emotions in the dream and after, of what it was like to have a world view one is totally certain of disintegrate. I’m still of the view that the dream was not of my own subconscious but beamed in as it were from another source.

Oh my god Newly Enlightened. Sorry you lost your brother in such a way. I was fortunate in a way because I never came out until I was 19 and that was the time I left the WT. Never told anyone there I was gay, except my mum who no longer went to meeting due to agoraphobia, and my dad who is an atheist convinced my mum not to tell the elders. My uncle was an elder you see and that would have made it much harder for me back then if he knew. 38 now, so had many years to work all that mess out, but back then it was not fun.
This was a site I used to run although no longer and this thread was all about the subject from a biblical view point. It is quite an interesting read although 40 pages long.

There is no doubt that Adam wasn't the first man. How do believers get around that small fact?

Hello jam. I personally think that Genesis is parabolic in nature. On that level it is quite sophisticated with a number of aims and purposes. I think it tries to encapsulate spiritual truths from the point of view of the Jewish mind and in doing so uses religious themes from other faiths around at the time. I think it is quite a masterpiece on that level. The literalistic view of Genesis is an erroneous one and most of the literary devices in it will be lost on one reading it as history.

Thanks and what a great welcome from everyone. Good advice as well which is appreciated. I note that in the forum rules one cannot repost posts they have written on other sites. I have written a fair few on my own site. Can I post the link to it if I want to discuss some topic I have written? It is a completely non-commercial and free site anyway so I don’t make any money or require funding for it so there is no vested interest or agenda involved. Any advice on this?

Thanks Fernando, I like the `overtly spiritual and overtly non-religious` angle. I’m a mixed bag really. The things I’m looking into and interested in are evolution as it impinges on theology, philosophy, science, theology of course and the supernatural. I am trying to seek a synthesis of all these things. I think that was one of the reasons I was kicked off the other site because my philosophical questionings were a bit much for some over there as well as some of my theological views.
