Are Christians more or less likely to be in favour of stronger gun control than atheists?
by Seraphim23 ini have no agenda with this post, if anything i am suspecting the results will be against what i would want to hear as a christian.
however im asking the question as i am curious as to the results.
my personal position is in favour of a total ban but i do live in the united kingdom, however many of my friends live in the states.

I’m not comparing them; I want to know if there is any correlation between the views on gun control depending on if one is a Christian or an atheist. For that I need people to tell me what their view is and what they are.

My personal position is in favour of a total ban but I do live in the United Kingdom, however many of my friends live in the states. These two following questions are directed primarily towards anyone in the states!
The questions are these two:
Are Christians more or less likely to be in favour of stronger gun control than atheists?
Also:
Are atheists more or less likely to be in favour of a total ban on guns, except in the case for appropriate authorities than Christians?
At first, all I want as answers from anyone are what their position is and if they are an atheist or believer. Then perhaps we can widen out the discussion if need be.

Question for believers in the Bible/God
by not bitter inmy question basically is - why believe?.
now as a non believer i find it hard to understand how anyone in their right mind can believe in the supernatural and more to the point, live their lives according to an old book.
not just christians obviously.. my intention is not to offend people.

In my case it’s because of having seen and experienced certain things hard or impossible to explain without the explanative power of the idea of some kind of intelligence. The belief in my case comes from the idea that an intelligence seems the most reasonable explanation for them, albeit an incomplete kind of explanation as the how it works part is missing. Whatever this intelligence is I call God. I take holy books as a guide because I reject the needlessly cruel God idea. I do think the bible and other books represent a record of sorts of our ancestors interpretation, stories and experiences of the supernatural and in that sense I see it as valuable but not perfect, or the ultimate source of truth.

JW refuses to provide wedding stationery to Gay couple
by KateWild ini was outraged at this and had to post it.. http://jehovahswitnessreport.com/blog/jw-refuses-to-provide-wedding-stationery-to-gay-couple.
i think she is a hypocrite and i bet she sells her invites to fornicators, or does she ask them if they are having sex before marrige, before she takes their money?.
i was never like this when i was a jw, it's even more disturbing that she is going to ask her elders what to do.

It wasn’t that long ago where I would have been subject to insults, slurs and implicated as being a child abuser and so on and on, just for my sexuality. Partial distinctions, which when though about were inaccurate and unfair were passed on as innocuous comments in the media and in the local pub. I could go into some detail about how all this effected my psyche as a young man. I’m nearly forty now!
Things have changed for lucky gay people like me in the west and even more importantly for the young gay generation. This board proves things have changed. On another board I was on, we used to have online audio bible studies as well. I often used to open the study with a prayer, which abruptly came to an end when one individual ask if it was proper that `someone like me` should be the one to open with a prayer. In the name of `not stumbling others` I was stopped by those I thought of as friends from doing so. This was despite the fact I had vociferously argued successfully that the woman of the online study group should open with prayer without thought to the question of deferring this to males being present. A watchtower overhang!
Bigoted people cannot really complain if they are subject to insults for being bigoted, in the same way that the only people that should be oppressed, are those who try to oppress! I don’t agree with insults and there hasn’t really been many, if any on this thread that I can recall. However it is a valid point that insults can polarise points of view and we all need to be careful not to resort to it. I would like to say though that my younger self, if he had read this thread would have been less likely to have suffered in the way he did due to the innate sense of justice demonstrated here.
It’s a sad fact that even though I am not an atheist, I would probably feel more excepted at an atheist convention than a Christian one. Even that is gradually changing but there is more work to do. I could never argue as a Christian, that Christians in general are more moral than atheists because it simply isn’t true from my gay perspective. The same is probably true for right wing views as opposed to the centre of the political spectrum.
The very simple truth is that maximum equality is the very definition of righteousness and any deviation from that position is a form of evil.

I love it when people say `some of my best friends are black `or `some of my best friends are gay` but then do not promote equality in various forms. I don’t want to get your back up Mrhome but I think Coftys question deserves an answer:
Should a shop have the right to put a "No blacks" sign in their window?

It is very disturbing that the courts are saying that one's sex life is more important than (a) the right to trade (or not) and (b) the freedom to act on your religious beliefs. ????
Surly no one really thinks sexuality can be reduced to “one’s sex life”. It’s like comparing racism and all its damage to a `fuss about colour`. Sex and colour come into it but that’s not what it really is about at all.

Mrhome I’m not sure you get irony. Mel Brooks is over there, go talk to him. Being a member of the LGBT community I find your comments offensive. JWs kill or ruin the lives of gay people by what they teach them. Not a small number have committed suicide induced by the guilt and alienation they had installed in them. Hitler also condemned gay people in concentration camps under the propaganda label of being a threat.
No business should be able to target one group or another in such a way without moral condemnation itself. Racism and homophobia are no different in principle.
