  you can talk about free will/sin/people choosing to not listen to god etc to explain human suffering being allowed.. but how can you love a god that allows animals, that haven't sinned or chosen to not have anything to do with god, to have their short lives ended in often long, drawn out, painful ways.

  i could list stories i've read that would probably make you feel ill, but i'm not looking to shock anyone or start an emotional debate.

  Yet if it wasn’t for such processes there would be no sharks to fill their niche in the highly competitive eco system, as the sharks would have died out because of unfit sharks being picked off to extinction. So it also keeps suffering to a minimum when one thinks about it. Certain chemicals that block pain when an organism is under attack more than likely also minimise suffering in the shark. What an amazing thing nature is!

  I think it is a case of logical impossibility. Evolution would not have made humans if it were not for environments that represented danger.

  I’m also pro-choice, not pro-life and so is the bible incidentally, if it is any of them but that’s another topic.

  Cofty, one might argue that God chose the laws of physics and blame him for it, if one believes in him but to me that is the same as accusing God of not making a rope that only has one end. It’s going to have two ends or no rope at all! One appreciates the rope for what it is, or not at all.

  defender of truth, it depends on the method of protection/intervention. God can either move you out of the way of the lightning, change where the lightning will strike, or warn you not to go out in the first place. Sometimes people get premonitions of danger and so don’t get on the plane that will later crash for example. With this method free will is not affected, as the person still has a choice to ignore the warning or not. However this would not happen for everyone or anyone all the time because life here is not supposed to be permanent.

  I always know what I mean by what I say. I’m sure you do to. Everything happens because physics allows for it, including what is called natural evil.
